सारनाथ, काशी अथवा वाराणसी के १० किलोमीटर पूर्वोत्तर में स्थित प्रमुख बौद्धतीर्थस्थल है। ज्ञान प्राप्ति के पश्चात भगवान बुद्ध ने अपना प्रथम उपदेश यहीं दिया था जिसे "धर्म चक्र प्रवर्तन" का नाम दिया जाता है और जो बौद्ध मत के प्रचार-प्रसार का आरंभ था। यह स्थान बौद्ध धर्म के चार प्रमुख तीर्थों में से एक है (अन्य तीन हैं: लुम्बिनी, बोधगया और कुशीनगर)। इसके साथ ही सारनाथ को जैन धर्म एवं हिन्दू धर्म में भी महत्व प्राप्त है। जैन ग्रन्थों में इसे 'सिंहपुर' कहा गया है और माना जाता है कि जैन धर्म के ग्यारहवें तीर्थंकरश्रेयांसनाथ का जन्म यहाँ से थोड़ी दूर पर हुआ था। यहां पर सारंगनाथ महादेव का मन्दिर भी है जहां सावन के महीने में हिन्दुओं का मेला लगता है।
सारनाथ में अशोक का चतुर्मुख सिंहस्तम्भ, भगवान बुद्ध का मन्दिर, धामेख स्तूप, चौखन्डी स्तूप, राजकीय संग्राहलय, जैन मन्दिर, चीनी मन्दिर, मूलंगधकुटी और नवीन विहार इत्यादि दर्शनीय हैं। भारत का राष्ट्रीय चिह्न यहीं के अशोक स्तंभ के मुकुट की द्विविमीय अनुकृति है। मुहम्मद गोरी ने सारनाथ के पूजा स्थलों को नष्ट कर दिया था। सन १९०५ में पुरातत्व विभाग ने यहां खुदाई का काम प्रारम्भ किया। उसी समय बौद्ध धर्म के अनुयायों और इतिहास के विद्वानों का ध्यान इधर गया। वर्तमान में सारनाथ एक तीर्थ स्थल और पर्यटन स्थल के रूप में लगातार वृद्धि की ओर अग्रसर है

Assi Ghat is one of the ghats often visited for recreation and during festivals. On typical days about 300 people visit every hour in the mornings, and on festival days 2500 people arrive per hour. Most of the people visiting the ghat on usual days are students from the nearby Banaras Hindu University. The ghat accommodates about 22,500 people at once during festivals like Shivratri.
Kashi Vishvanath Temple
Kashi Vishvanath Templeis one of the most famous Hindu templesdedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. The temple stands on the western bank of the holy river Ganga, and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest of Shivatemples. The main deity is known by the name Vishwanath and also by the ancient name of deity Vishweshwar and its Sanskrit transliteration Vishveshvara meaning Ruler of The Universe. Varanasi city is also called Kashi in ancient time, and hence the temple is popularly called as Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
