God, does that old switcher bring back memories! I used to run those old buggers on the CNW early in my career as a hostler and engineer starting in the mid- 1970s!
So much history went by the wayside when the big house was taken down in sayre. terrible to see the mass exits to the burg in the early mid 70s when conrail took over.
Like an "Abused Elephant Rescued" stories where the animal is found in deplorable conditions but is restored slowly to health until she is well enough to join the other elephants at the refuge. But with trains.
Yeah, I'm glad to see this engine revived and put to good use. I love the old EMD (then EMC) SW-1 engines. I've got one on my model RR layout that looks in worse shape than the LV 112. But it runs like a champ. Aren't those AAR type B trucks on her? I always thought the front box was a tool box but understand that it's really the sand box. Learn something every day.
the LV always had a special place for me. my great great grandmother was a Cornell. I am related to the Cornells of NY, ie, the university. we have a photo from 1920 of a reunion in Piqua, ohio, and my grandmother is 19 yo . in may 1976 i remember seeing my first cornell red engine, a GP38AC # 312 on the point of a southbound in Carlisle,Ohio. union rd. i saw the big alcos too. on a trip to bethleham,pa I also saw 7644, but 7644 was in blue paint, this was 1979, and any alco was scarce by then. the people there at the yard were trying to HIDE 7644 by keeping it in the roundhouse. there were still several red SW8s crawling around.
They kind of look and sound wimpy but I have to say it was impressive to watch one lug an entire Amtrak long-distance train around the Union Avenue wye in Chicago without stalling
One of the oldest running diesel locomotives in the world, she the "barnfind" of locomotives, and I asume keeping the original paint as much as possible makes her more valuable than a shiny total restoration. (Although I like the original color scheme, maybe if bodywork restoration is unavoidable)
The BRW green was a temporary paint job. Her owner has recently finished PRR SW1 9206, and 112 will soon get her turn in the paint shop, most likely painted in the original LV red.
It's a shame that this locomotive wasn't repainted in to it's as delivered maroon and grey paint. Instead, it was painted into a green paint scheme represented by another SW1 that the railroad had years back. A real shame. Why can't people paint locomotives into there original paint schemes? The URHS is notorious for painting locomotives into fictitious paint schemes.
I see the footboards have been removed per FRA regs. This is an SW-1. It's not customary to refer to a diesel as a 'she.' Boats, yes, steam engines maybe, but not diesels.

Love Love Leigh railways, grew up with them, Living in FL, is sweet ,, But I really miss the sounds of the trains❤️
This is so 'dinky'☺️ Reminds me of a toy train set! Beautiful once restored.
I was in heaven seeing all the Cabooses and SW units . very enjoyable watching this . Thank You . Ray in Pa.
It's always nice to see such an old girl still doing what she was built to do!
I'm so glad this locomotive was saved. It's older than some steam engines.
Very well done documentary of a classic locomotive from a classic railroad.

What a fantastic documentary. Miraculous. Brian from near Toronto Canada.
I've always loved those I used to see them all the time Pennsylvania railroad style penn Central
I just started watching this and I now love this engine

Nice job restoring her, looks great actually looks like you may have rebuilt the engine also? Or at least re-ringed the pistons it doesn't smoke much.
This engine is fantastic. Now repaint it to its LV colors BR&W!
i can remember a xtra 2200 south paragraph about her from about 1978.
112 was in rockwood even then.
i could never find rockwood on any map, of tn.

+dieselmupke She's been repainted in Black River green colors. I would have chosen an original LV paint scheme myself.
That was my choise either when she had to be repainted.
I can understand the sentiment ... but if not painted, the steel will rust out and yeah... :(

She ran side by side with steam engines . Man , if she could talk !
She looks great just need a new coat of paint!
Really enjoyed seeing her run. Also, I just subscribed.
+SoFloRR 1018 Thanks
