Made me smile, years ago I collected wooden boxes, my grandchildren talked me out of many things, it was the joy on their faces. Thanks for sharing your collections they are definitely lovely!
I love your boxes, and what I love most is that you use them . We so often collect items but put them up on a shelf or closet and don't use or get to truly enjoy them . Hidden away , so sad . I have also done the same thing , but now use everything i have to the fullest. Love the feather box , acorn box , oh for heavens sake they are all Beautiful . Thank you for sharing this video, I have never seen them before now . It's amazing the crafts that have been done years ago that we are unaware of , tinsel painting is another I think was beautiful .
Feathers, tiny baskets, Victorian beauties, acorn caps, ribbon, teddy bear eyes, all encased in ornate wooden boxes. What beautiful treasures! I savor your videos and come to them in times of stress/sadness. Thanks for sharing.
My grandma had one given to her in her childhood and she passed it to me ❤️It has a lighthouse and sea view and it is si precious to me. I keep a collection of tiny seashells inside. It’s about the size of the bird one you are showing This was a joy to find your display and explanation. Thank you again for your knowledge and willingness to share.
I am Flemish. Up till now I had never heard about this art. I learned a lot about our history. Thank you. I'll try to find such a lovely box and pass on its history to my kids!
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow I'll check on e-bay. Thank you for the advice. Those boxes are art and history. So beautiful. Loved this discussion. I put away my great grandmothers years ago. So I pulled it out, it was beautifully executed and filled with her hankies. Now I have it out for autumn. 💕
I feel like I'm right there viewing these wonderful boxes. I love wood and I love wooden boxes. I like the way you had a cup of tea or coffee nearby. It's just so warm and homey.

@@HotchildinMurf I misunderstood, I read "Gloves in the box"; that would've been the icing on the cake, but the glove boxes are really sweet and such a nice size.
Hello Jeri, I had never heard of Pyrography boxes until I saw your video. It was fascinating. You really are a treasure trove in your Aladin’s cave. Love to know how you manage to store everything. Xxx
I have a wooden box that was gifted to me over 60 years ago. My box is wood burnt with a grape design on the top and front and ends, and a different design on the back. I never knew much about it. How would I know if it’s a pyrography box like yours? Thanks for sharing your collection. I found your TH-cam channel over the Christmas season and am enjoying all of the back videos. I’ve told my children how fun it is to watch someone with such similar interests. We both have gardens, sheep, chickens, donkeys, and peacocks! We both do needle felting and water color painting. And we both love old things that time has tried.
You make me smile, Jeri. Your videos are my little retreat these days! I was given a wood-burning kit as a young girl in the sixties. Of course, the tool for burning had a nice electric cord!
Jeri, have to say true antiques are harder to find now a day. Probably more on east coast. Love the history of the old things. Once again love your videos. Will look for your books for my grandson. Tfs cheers
Your collection of boxes are just wonderful. This has been added to my collection list, just love these. I have a box obsession also plus much more hehehehe.
Keep your eyes on Ebay, there are typically dozens of these boxes up for auction. This morning there were a set of 2 boxes for only $8 at Buy it Now... www.ebay.com/itm/2-ANTIQUE-WOODEN-BOXES-FLEMISH-ART-PYROGRAPHY-ROSES-GIBSON-GIRL/113998893280?hash=item1a8add10e0:g:RZEAAOSwhY1dxI-t
Victoria, I should do some more, I enjoy sharing that sort of thing. I think there are a few antique collectors around these days... not as much interest as 20 yrs ago.
I have a very small one of those boxes from my Grandmother's things - I never knew what it was called! I've always loved it and esp. those tiny hinges. I certainly would not have allowed my child to use that woodburning kit! Thanks for the history lesson.
Good Morning Jeri Well I have to say I have never heard of these boxes and I don't even remember seeing them while I am out at flea markets and antique stores. Maybe because I wasn't looking for them? but I love them and of course want one of my own now. Such a great video and your collection is beautiful. I also like the ones that are not wood burned, the ones that are just stamped are so much prettier. I would not let my children play with one of those sets thats for sure* Thanks for sharing, I loved that I learned something I didn't even know existed. Have a great weekend Jeri deezie
I haven't thought of this for decades but I remember that when I was about 10 or 11 I got a wood burning kit for Christmas. It was an electric iron with heating tips of different shapes. I can still smell the burning of the wood. I wasn't very creative with it at the time and I guess after burning my name into every board and plank I could get my hands on I moved on the the toy that heated a plastic sheet and with a vacuum box I could make all kinds of things with the included molds. Again, there were probably 3 or 4 aluminum molds and 10 or 12 4" X 4" sheet of colored plastic. After using up the supply of plastic sheets I guess I got tired of and rid of that toy as well. Your collection of boxes is wonderful! When I was a child of about 4 or 5 I loved to go to Aunt Essie's house. Not only did she always have cookies or bread fresh from her oven or ice cream that she made and froze in individual serving size plastic cups and boxes but on her back porch she had the BEST collection of cardboard and plastic boxes! My sister and I would play store with the boxes, setting up stacks and shelves of the boxes that were "filled" with precious imaginary goods! Now THAT was fun! I've seen hundreds of children and cats who would prefer an empty box over a toy gun, doll, or truck any day! Give me an empty box and I'll give you a world of imagined treasures!
We never had a wood burning kit, but my little brother got a set of Creepy Crawlers. You would pour the goop into a mold and "cook it" to make a rubbery bug or frog or snake, etc.. I think we used up all the goop the first day he got the set, on Christmas! If a child has an imagination, they can make believe with any old thing. I used to "sculpt" animals using mud, because we had no clay. Once I made angels wings using cardboard and scraped MICA off of rocks in our yard.. I was about 7 yrs. old at the time.
Wow, thanks for the history of pyography boxes. I've never heard of these before today and dont think I've seen one. I'm going to start looking though.
Gwen, They are common, but unassuming little boxes, easily overlooked in an antiques shops over the more elaborate and colorful items. That's why most have never noticed them, I think
Absolutely marvelous! Throughly enjoyed that. I do believe you are correct about why they didn’t burn into boxes. The way those bellows looked is probably indicative of how you might look after using those chemicals and fire. Holy cow!!! Thank you for sharing those beautiful boxes. Do have a Merry Christmas.
LOL!!! Those Bellows! Ouch. I am so glad they were seldom used; although, looking at my kit, it seems to have been used for something, it is such a mess.
Your boxes are beautiful!! I'm with you on the reason for most of your boxes designs not being burned into them. Explosion?!! Lol, I would have definitely put up the kits for safe keeping out of my children's hands. ;)
Do you think its basswood? Would they have just used metal stamps and pressed the pattern on or gently tapped on. Seen them as pressed but never really gave the process much thought. Love them all!
It could very well be basswood, it's very lightweight. The designs are pre stamped and pressed right into the wood, so they do have dimension and ink. I'm thinking they were all pressed by hand, because they had so many factory workers sitting at long tables with tools.
As always I love your history lessons Jeri and learn so much from them. Thank you for sharing.
Made me smile, years ago I collected wooden boxes, my grandchildren talked me out of many things, it was the joy on their faces. Thanks for sharing your collections they are definitely lovely!

Too bad we're not neighbors! Your box is a Pyrography box. The grape motif was very common and if the box is that old, I'm sure its the real thing.

I agree that most parents would not have let their children play with such dangerous items.
