Others in the music industry have says she truly made you feel the emotion in the songs she sang. She was the best singer and also a drummer who was fabulous. She passed from anorexia and it was so very sad
Other singers sing at you, at the audience. Karen sings to you, personally and touches your soul personally. Like no singer, NO SINGER, has done in my long lifetime. God rest this sublime woman's soul.
Possibly the greatest female vocalist in pop music history. Richard's arrangements were magnificent, too, and he was a darn great songwriter, too, although he didn't write this one.
He was also a gifted pianist. Look for his performance of The Warsaw Concerto (a BBC video on TH-cam). About 18 minutes in. Mom and Dad are in the audience. Karen also does a great drum solo in that concert. It might have been the one at the Old London Theatre.
In case you didn't know, Karen Carpenter started as a drummer. There's video on TH-cam of her. In my opinion there's no other voice as pure and beautiful as hers. They have a huge number of hits. Have fun ❤❤❤❤
Brother you really feel the beautiful genuine emotion while your sister I feel sees only a surface feeling of the lyrics ..yes, softness and heartfelt learning curve FOR BOTH OF YOU...PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS BALLAD AGAIN. ❤
Recorded this song in one take thus the nickname One Take Karen. Sang the lyrics off a napkin lying on her back at the A&M Records studio late at night. Amazing!
Not only was Karen one of he greatest singers ever, she was a hell of a drummer. God must have been punishing us when he took her away at such a young age of 32, almost 33. Her voice was from the warmth of her heart and soul. She was like the girl next door to all of us, the girl who had this extreme talent and gift she shared with the world.
Try out "This Masquerade," in which brother Richard shows off his jazz piano chops. Karen, of course, sings beautifully. They were such talented siblings!
Siblings you ask a real deep question, who hurt Karen Carpenter, the answer, the one that suppose to love you, over anyone or anything else, the one who gives birth to you "Your Mother". Karen's mother Agnes never really adored Karen, always putting Richard her very own brother above her. The longing for a mothers love IMO Karen was missing, as well as a mans love from a significant other.
There are many films about her life. From what I remember, although she was married once, she felt that she never found a true love. It is rumoured that her parents favored her brother immensely. Her and Richard had played a concert and in the review ( Rolling Stone) the author referred to Karen as Richard's chubby sister. It devastated her and then soon after became anorexic. IMO the best female singer of my generation. There will never be anyone like her. RIP Perfect Pitch Karen 💖
@@monstrogro666 Karen’s best song is Trying to get the Feeling AgainRecorded in 1975, then lost. Found again by Richard it was released by him in 1994. 11 years after Karen died. The audio is on you tube.
At one point, Karen was ranked #5 best drummer in the world... her voice was so great that their management slowly took her away from the drums to make her just the singer... stone say that started her road of depression and eating disorders. Sad story.
The correct name of the brother and sister duo is "Carpenters" not "The Carpenters". This is also a cover version. The original recorded version is by husband and wife duo Delaney & Bonnie (Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett). It was first recorded under the name "Groupie (Superstar)", and was released in December 1969 as the B-side of the Delaney & Bonnie single "Comin' Home". The full credit on the single was "Delaney & Bonnie and Friends featuring Eric Clapton." This song is written and composed by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell, Eric Clapton added some embellishments to the music. Rita Coolidge came up with the song idea, based on observing the relationships of female groupies with rock stars in the late 1960s.
If you want to see Karen drum and sing, check out her doing a cover of the Beatles Help and Dancing in the Streets on TH-cam--effortless singing and drumming at the same time
I was blindsided by the rise of Tori Holub covers of Karen. I'd forgotten how much I loved Karen's voice and then BAM along comes Tori and makes this old man's eyes leak. Karen was the greatest.
I love your channel! I’m sure you know Richard and Karen were siblings but since Richard had shown signs of being a musical prodigy when he was very small their mother had always favored him and pretty much ignored Karen. Richard could do no wrong and for the most part Karen could do no right. That’s how they ended up going from Connecticut to California. There’s a documentary called “Starving For Perfection” if you want to hear Karen’s story and not the whitewashed version that usually ends up making it to print or on screen when Richard is involved with the project and demands a certain amount of editorial and producing rights.
There's also a TV movie on TH-cam called "The Karen Carpenter Story" starring Cynthia Gibb. It broke all ratings the night it appeared on TV after her death.
@@carolhesterberg7526 unfortunately that was very heavily edited by Richard. Ms. Gibbs said she had heard he wasn’t very happy with the production and basically they had new pages of script to learn almost everyday because of all the changes Richard would make.
@@stacymatthews57789 I had heard that, too. He was unhappy with how bad it made his mother look. That scene near the end when Agnes tells Karen she loved her is said to be pure fiction.
@@carolhesterberg7526 yes, the director said it was completely made up. They wanted the movie to end on a “feel good” note. That in itself says so much, when you have to fabricate an “I love you” between mother and daughter for a “feel good” moment 😢
I'll have to check the Bible for where it says criticize and degrade people you know nothing about. Think I'll find it? I'm gonna like ya anyway. That's what Jesus would do I'm guessing based on reading the new testament. .
Superstar was written by Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett. Karen didn't write any of the Carpenters hits. To the best of my knowledge Karen never wrote any songs.
You're correct, but brother Richard wrote some of their hits with lyricist John Bettis.. "Only Yesterday," "Goodbye to Love," " I Need to be in Love," "Yesterday Once More," "Top of the World," etc.
@@carolhesterberg7526 --True. Richard was a prick. He was very jealous of Karen. He is mostly responsible for killing the release of Karen's solo album. There were a lot of people who wanted to work with Karen. I heard a story how Phil Ramone had gotten Billy Joel's's band to play instruments on the solo album, when Billy Joel heard about this he said "what about me ?" He wanted to sit in and play.
Karen "Legend" Carpenter. Drummer/Singer simply the best. Paul McCartney: "The best female voice in the world: melodic, tuneful and distinctive."

Yes it sounds as though Karen is singing to us all personally. No-one else has ever had that ability in the music business. An incredible talent..
Paul McCartney and John Lennon said she had the best female voice in the world.
Don't forget Elton John, "Next voice of a generation"
John Lennon saw her in a restaurant and said ‘You have a fabulous voice, love’. Karen being Karen thought he was just being kind.
She was better than both of those.
Fabulous brother/sister act. Karen was a drummer and a very special voice.

Best singer ever IMHO...No training and known as "1 take Karen" as she recorded everything perfectly first time. Such a sad loss.
Totally agree with you!
She was. She sang pure in 5 octaves as far as I know. The only two close to that are whitney houston and barbara streisand
@@Winterov From what I've heard, she could get up into whistle voice, but "the money was in the basement," so that's where she sang the most.
