Agreed, what was special about Duncan was that his average didn't come from the median of highs and lows. He consistantly got 20+, 10+, and rarely got less or way more.

Duncan and Garnett are about the same age (both born in the spring of 1976), but Garnett started in the league a couple of years before Duncan, because Garnett came straight out of high school. Picking between them, I'd take Duncan, but it's pretty close. I think the top PFs of all-time rank really close to each other (the others including Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, and Dirk Nowitzki).
The most disregarded player in the top 10. Always disrespected by fans of kg, Kobe and shaq. People love to only speak on his accolades because of the team and forget how DOMINANT that man was as an individual talent. People swear basic is bad and it doesn’t make sense to me. Kareem has the same issue. If it ain’t explosive athleticism or flashy flair, causals can’t appreciate it. Oh and Duncan is better as a talent than Hakeem or Kobe but career wise it’s a convo on who had the better career. I say Kobe>Duncan>Hakeem. But Kobe fans make it seem much farther than it actually is.
Started as Showtime fan but that led me to be a Kobe/Shaq fan but meant I saw Duncan most playoffs. If I was making all time team I’d put Duncan at PF. Until this video had Duncan as #3 center behind Kareem & Hakeem but Duncan deserves #2 spot. Coaches ranking Red, Phil, Greg & Pat Riley each led different stars to rings.
Pop’s coaching and front office tree runs the deepest and most successful, followed by Pat’s, Red third because fewer teams and he had the best players and Phil, he’s successful with the triangle but which coaches under him ever left and had success running that system not to mention his players as well. Pop and Pat were able to adapt their coaching styles, obviously Pop coached longer so he did so to a deeper level both have successful coaching tree’s although Pops is much more deeply rooted and includes front office staff as well, Phil ran the triangle no adaptability whatsoever. Tim easy btw Pop holds the record for regular and playoff wins as well.
I would not compare them because of different skill sets, and different positions. I'll give you my top 10 that I would pick to have my all time greatest team to see where he . My starting 5 would be c Wilt Chamberlain pf Tim Duncan sf Larry Bird sg Michael Jordan pg magic Johnson. And off the bench Bill Russell, Shaq, Kobe ,doctor j, LeBron and Allen Iverson . Kareem and Kevin Durant as my reserves. Maybe I'm dumb but I just look at it differently. It's hard for me to compare players in different positions . Shaq and Tim were two completely different players with different roles. I guess what I'm trying to say is. If I'm picking a center. I would never choose Tim over Shaq and it's not even close. Just like I would never choose Shaq over Tim in the power forward position . That would not be close either. I would not choose Shaq over KG for power forward, and KG didn't make my all time great squad and I'm not trying to down play his KG . He was a force of nature. A monster baller with an attitude that fits in NBA. He was fearless. And believe me that's a compliment. Back in high school playing NBA 2k .If I could not pick up Duncan the I was picking up KG. So mad respect for KG
Super late to see this video, but his winning percentage is *kind of* true. 71%. But if you're going to consider which players had a higher winning percentage than him, it's Manu and Parker (or I think it's Kawhi). Both Spurs.
Pop Auerbach Jackson Riley 5th is a personal favorite for me, Alex Hannum. But you could easily put Sloan, Daly, Brown, etc here as well. The reason I have Pop #1 is because He did what the others didn't... Win in a tiny market with less star power and with less money. His coaching tree is also far superior to Jackson's. Has Jackson produced a single quality coach? I personally consider Kerr a Pop disciple, not jackson and you can tell by the way the Warriors play basketball. They play Spurs basketball, not Bulls or Lakers basketball. They don't play iso or triangle much.
I have to say...you went the total wrong way with this one...you asked for Naismith winners since 97...but you should have asked for winners before 97...the mid-90's is when the best stopped going to college...KG in 95, Kobe (and Jermaine O'neal) in 96 and it goes on from there...but Tim started college before that started happening (and yes, it was only 2years…93…before high schoolers started jumping...but I remember watching this live...and Tim was known for being an elite swimmer...and needed college to get his basketball skills sharpened to what they ended up being)...so you should be comparing him to the players that won that trophy before 97...not after...
Tim Duncan>Kevin Garnett. Kevin has comparable stats, some better, but Tim had one stat that means more than the rest: 5 of them thangs that wouldn't have happened without his calm, intelligent, collaborative, patient, tenacious, clutch, unwavering leadership. Kevin isn't top 10 all time. Tim is nearly universally recognized as the greatest power forward to ever touch a basketball. The Big Fundamental.
Barsolona....hosted the '92 Olympics...you know had this Lil basketball team called the DREAM TEAM....you know just the Greatest TEAM of all Time that's all...B.t.w. Timmy had the highest and longest winning percentage in sport's from '97-2016. He never missed the playoffs barely lossed once In finals only because he was sitting down those last 28 seconds in game 6 2013. Duncan is only one who was the closest to tieing Jordan's six rings against much harder opponents and super team's. Kobe was also second best. Better than LeBron. K.G. who could never even beat Timmy much in less match him. That's why he had to join a super team in 2008. Super team's might win you one or two but that's it. You're never going to build a dynasty that way. You have to have a strong foundation from the draft. And we in San Antonio had that already with our '87 draft pick, David Robinson, Timmy was the last piece of the puzzle. He's the reason why the Spurs won in the first place.
You can take Timmy and swap him with any of the other possible 🐐s teams and youd get equal if not better results. But if you take the other possibly 🐐s and swap them with Duncan on those Spurs teams would you still get equal or greater results? To me the answer is no.
27:41 Retrospectively, for my money, Popovich is the goat coach, but the longer the Spurs DONT make the playoffs (it’s been 3 years straight now), I’m going with Phil Jackson as the goat coach.
As an aside, can we PLEASE explain how Lebron leapfrogged Tim Magic Kareem Russell Wilt and Tim Duncan to get to number two? Tim has MORE CHIPS with ROLE PLAYERS over the same span of time. Just sayin 😉😎🤷🏾♂️
@@michaeltrenier Lebron has cheated big time in that ladder because even though he's obviously a phenomenal player (all top 10 players ever obviously are) his career is 80% media hype and 20% real accomplishments... even his rings don't count as much as others... I mean he teamed up with Wade and Bosh... Imagine Kobe teaming up with Garnett and Pierce but in their primes (2 of the 3-4 best in the league plus one more superstar)... like 26-27 years old... they'd win every single year without breaking a sweat... how about Timmy teaming up with Kobe or KG? Again... ring every year without breaking a sweat... when LeDiva did the same he won 2 out of 4 and lost to 37-38 year old Timmy by a RECORD MARGIN in the history of the Finals... like seriously... that's the most humiliating loss in Finals history by a mile... and the second most humiliating? 2011... again Lebron... against Dirk who was playing with old vets AND was playing sick with the flu AND had broken a finger in game 3... Picking Duncan over Bron to win rings is a no-brainer...
Tim Duncan I believe is the only player who turned down the opportunity to come out early not only did he choose to try his efforts in college but he stayed for a full four years I think that says a lot about Tim Duncan as a competitor
Great point about Hakeem! Tim Duncan was NOT better than Hakeem. Tim is MAYBE the best PF ever....he certainly won a lot. But honestly I'd take Charles Barkley over Duncan as Barkley was a better player. Duncan was a better defender sure, but Charles was much better offensively. Barkley just had the displeasure as other legends like John Stockton, Karl Malone, Reggie Miller, Patrick Ewing, etc etc of guys to get stonewalled by Michael Jordan. I don't like Karl Malone as a person but as a player? He's better than Duncan too. He would have had 5 FREAKING SCORING TITLES if it wasn't for Jordan. He probably would have racked up another MVP or two as well and certainly a couple titles. That just goes to show how great Jordan and the Bulls were. You could NOT get past them when MJ was himself.

@@Henry-fn1zw Nice argument. Super intelligent
@@jermainezinnerman7450 thx✌️, Kobe>>>>>>>
🙏🏾💯💯
Hakeem isn't in the top 8??? That's INSANE!!! Hakeem is best center BY FAR!!! Better scorer, better defender, just BETTER! LOL
Barcelona is f-ing amazing. my favorite city in Europe to visit hands down.
Tim Duncan was the first overall pick 1997
Ginobili just made the HOF Probably more to do with his international play than NBA
Probably but his an all nba class player 6 years straight
(raises hand) I've watched your reactions to all 8 of the GOAT player "Making the Case" videos!
🐐
Coaching Mount Rushmore (no order) Red Aurbach, Phil Jackson, Popavich, Pat Riley, Chuck Daily (BAD BOYS FOR LIFE!)
That shot is bleach in my eyes.
Top five coaches: Pat Riley, Greg Popovich, Jeff Van Gundy, Eric Spoelstra, and Rick Alderman.
Top five coaches in no real order: Pop, Pat Riley, K.C. Jones, Phil Jackson, Red Auerbach
Start a game? Bird.
Start a season? Jordan.
Start a franchise? Duncan.
I’d keep Tim Duncan over Shaq.
Tim was better than Hakeem or Kobe. Not by a crazy amount, but was better than both.
18:20 That damn shot hurts every time I see it
I'm picking Timmy, you ever heard of hack a Tim. Shaq was dominant for sure but only 3 ft from the rim. Timmy was money all over the court
No ones picking KG!!
Super late to see this video, but his winning percentage is *kind of* true. 71%. But if you're going to consider which players had a higher winning percentage than him, it's Manu and Parker (or I think it's Kawhi). Both Spurs.
Pop
Auerbach
Jackson
Riley
5th is a personal favorite for me, Alex Hannum.
1st pick on the all time draft...Bird, Magic or Duncan.
They were ready to win from day 1!
💯

The answer is always Tim Duncan
I feel u
Tim Duncan>Kevin Garnett. Kevin has comparable stats, some better, but Tim had one stat that means more than the rest: 5 of them thangs that wouldn't have happened without his calm, intelligent, collaborative, patient, tenacious, clutch, unwavering leadership. Kevin isn't top 10 all time. Tim is nearly universally recognized as the greatest power forward to ever touch a basketball. The Big Fundamental.
I only watched this video to see if you became a Tim believer or not!
Most def!
Tim took pay cuts Shaq wouldn’t. Just saying, it’s something
I'm from San Antonio, but I hate Kobe don't have one, at the time, look at Duncan accolades and tell me Hakeem still better lmao
I don't know about the rest of you but I didn't see Dirks or Garnett's numbers being better than Tim Duncans
Facts
As an aside, can we PLEASE explain how Lebron leapfrogged Tim Magic Kareem Russell Wilt and Tim Duncan to get to number two? Tim has MORE CHIPS with ROLE PLAYERS over the same span of time.
Just sayin 😉😎🤷🏾♂️
Bron ain’t number 2 in my book 🤷🏾♂️
@@HenDawgTV yep! I meant like the media narrative. Like they just straight disrespect Kareem Duncan Wilt etc
@@sportschool3537 AGREED on ALL COUNTS sir.
React to this new Larry Bird vid. This is different: th-cam.com/video/x_6f-pN39AA/w-d-xo.html
Duncan
Hakeem WAY BETTER than Duncan!!! NO WAY Duncan is top 8!!! Maybe top 20
Tim Duncan I believe is the only player who turned down the opportunity to come out early not only did he choose to try his efforts in college but he stayed for a full four years I think that says a lot about Tim Duncan as a competitor
My ultimate starting 5 would be Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Nikola Jokic, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird.
Man. Kobe fans are insufferable.
😂
Phil Jackson, Pat Reilly, K.C. Jones, Chuck Daly, Lenny Wilkins
I always liked Hakeem Olajuwon over Tim Duncan, but they were both very good. Not necessarily top 5, but still elite.
Tim duncan is literally Hakeem though with just good team mates better coach and played it safe like a choke chess game
If he was more exciting hed be in everyone's top 5.
Top coach... I probably go Pat Riley but obviously Pop is amazing.
💯💯💯
Steph Curry is SOOOOO OVERRATED! Almost as overrated as Tim Duncan!!! Lol
Think if Lebron would have played 4 yrs of college!!!! 35-9-8!!!
💯💯💯
ofcourse he was better than hakeem...
