Wow I am mind blown about the 3000-3500 rpms to polish. I've always gone by the tutorials from the past and they preached about ramping up to 4000-5000 rpms. The other day I was polishing and kept it at Yvan's recommendation of setting 3 (before this video aired) so that I can have more work time before dusting. This was on a retail compound and I was amazed that it still cut. It not only cut, but gave me all the work time I needed while making the machine easier to work with at lower speeds! Thank DIY detail for confirming this experience!
you need 2 machine( 21mm dual action and a rotary ) / 3 diffrent pads ( Wool, yellow waffle and red jeveling pad ) and system 4000 pad washer this is by far the easiest, cheapest, and least amount of arsenal you can have to tackle almost every single polishing job, regardless of the hardness of the paint It's dummy proof as well. just by watching couple of diy polishing video, anyone can polish a car in no time with great reults. Yvan thought me, polishing doesn't have to be so complicated and time consuming. Actually entire car detailing is easy and inexpensive, with mr Yvan. He is the best guy on earth when it comes to detailing.
I found this video after watching a few other of your videos! This is I think by far a excellent video on one your pads and gold standard polish, I’m waiting for my red and yellow pad and polish to arrive, can’t wait to try it on my new truck
Fabulous timing on this video. I'm getting ready to do my first wash polish and ceramic coat on my wife's brand new anniversary present and boy do I not want to screw up. Thanks for all the great information
Love all your videos guys! One small ask. In editing can you increase the playback sound volume? I turn up your videos to hear the dialog, then TH-cam plays an ad at a significantly higher volume. Really frustrating. Other channels play at a volume that more closely matches the ads. Thank you for the continued great content!
If I am going to use your method of polish with your product would your recommend rupes 5" 15mm da first step and the flex 6" rotary for second step. In your opinion? Thanks
Perfect timing, I have been staring at my orbital polisher for months and been afraid to polish, for some reason I feel like I’m going to ruin my paint…I need this video tutorial 🙏🏼
When does one use the wool (purple) pad? And I heard it's used for more cutting. Finally, can the red pad (for rotary) be used as a finish polish pad on a dual action polisher? Is it simply for rotary?
Your teaching and products have saved me so much time. Thank you for knowledge shared and for creating quality products thay makes the process easy ans efficient. 🙏🏼 I purchased the entire system and went and got a rotary. So happy I listened to your advice. ❤
Couple of questions... as you pointed out the old way was to put on a few dots... then spread the polish by pressing the pad on the area in a few places.. run on low speed to spread then high speed to polish. Am I correct that your way is to put one spray on a moving pad and simply start polishing the area on a low speed? also.. you say use a damp pad.. are you wetting it on the very first use.. then cleaning it every so often which keeps it damp throughout?
I was about to purchase the Gold Standard product, Gold STD polish and the yellow and jeweling waffle pads as a combo until I saw shipping cost of almost $17, which was almost half the product price.
Love the videos! But in this one are you saying cars painted black do not have clear coat or am I misunderstanding? Just purchased a new black car. It's mentioned right after 12min.
Nice video. Questions from a beginner DIY person 1. DA or Rotary polisher 2. Can I compound/polish black piano finish B and C pillars. 3. What is the safest method of removing minor scratches and swirl marks 4. Do your products ship to India?
With the use with the orbital sander. Is it truly safe as most obital sanders spin at quite a high rpm. And quite a few aren't adjustable speed wise. Or are you suggesting using a sander that is made more job specific for polishing?
I just used your gold standard polish on my black explorer with light car wash scratches came out perfect ! Really like that its a spray on after watching your video on how to correctly spray it onto the pad. I also tried at medium rpm as suggested. Good stuff cant wait to try your other products 😊
Love this as it shows a new and better way to polish. I am a little confused on a couple of points... use a damp pad.. do you wet it before the first use? how often do you clean the pad during the entire polishing?
Can the gold standard polish be used on headlights too? I have read that polishing headlights are bad because it removes some anti-flare / safety coating off the headlights and will make them turned yellow in the future. Also would you recommend taping the headlight?
This Gold Standard system is by far the nicest system out there that I've tried! You can do pretty much everything with your 3 pads and your polish. Thank you so much for bringing this system out and all of your knowledge as well, it's greatly appreciated! Any hints to what the C6 Ceramics is/are?
Hello, love the channel! If I bought a DA that allows me to use 5.5 and/or 6.5 backing plates would that be enough to cut and polish most if not any car? I see a lot of videos suggesting to buy 3 different size DAs. Do you guys have a video showing techniques for using a larger DA pad size on smaller areas? Wondering if I wanted to get started if I really do need several sizes or if I could get away with 1 DA. Thank you!
I have your spray polish, and both pads and have had great luck with them. My question is, can this system be used to cut/polish after wet sanding a fresh paint job? Will the wool pad have enough cut for that? Thanks!
As far as damp pads concerned, won`t that prevent abrasives from braking down, so they won`t work? And secondly, so I suppose you can polish a car with a single pad..
One of my confusion eliminated that we don't need to mask up the black trims while polishing. But how can we remove the polish if it goes in the grooves of trims and how can we remove polish from black claddings?
As I understand it, the Gold Standard Polish doesn’t dust up hence no tape required. However other compounds and polishes do dust up a lot, hence for those products you’ll need to tape up.
Hi Yvan (or anyone from DIY for that matter). Thanks for this vid - Im getting really close to having a go at this. I have a relatively new car (4000 miles) and ive used DIY methods and products since new. It probably has the odd light scratch here or there but not too much (its white so hard to tell!). i was thinking of investing in a Ryobi battery powered DA with an 8mm offset (Yvan mentioned this is a good beginners DA in a previous vid). I have an orbital sander with a 2mm offset. If i use the Ryobi 8mm with the gold waffle pad - is it reasonable to finish with the 2mm orbital sander and the jewling pad? i know you said the jewling pad is designed for a rtary but i dont want to buy a rotary and a DA at the same time. Is a 2mm offset on the orbital sander not too far off a rotary? Thanks, Matt
better worth to just get a harbor freight bauer 20mm polisher for a first investment.. the price is cheaper than cordless ryobi and you can use it forever, can cut and finish better than a 8mm..
First time i went ahead after wtaching videos did compound on my 03 civic on my passenger there was some type of dry paint or residue setting of 3 was enough speed to remove some swirls and scratch marks playing whith the other speeds there to fast maybe need for another type of job but in my opinion not for polishing or compound in my case
I wanted to do my own ceramic coat on my mineral white car. The paint is pretty good at hiding swirls and imperfections and since the car is pretty new (1 year old) I was planning on skipping the cutting pad and going straight for the DIY polish pads. To achieve the best gloss, should I use the DIY polish pad into DIY Jeweling pad followed up with 5 year + 3 year stack or do you think I should skip the polish pad and go straight for jeweling given the good condition of the paint.

The wool pad is for when you want more agressive correction. The red pad can be used on a DA

Correct, one spray and enjoy. Always use a freshly cleaned damp pad for best results.
I have the 3mm random orbital sander like in your video. Will that, with the red jewel pad, give me the same gloss as a stationary orbital polisher?
Very close
I was about to purchase the Gold Standard product, Gold STD polish and the yellow and jeweling waffle pads as a combo until I saw shipping cost of almost $17, which was almost half the product price.
Unfortunately shipping costs are real. We do offer free shipping on orders over $150

Enjoy!
Love the videos! But in this one are you saying cars painted black do not have clear coat or am I misunderstanding? Just purchased a new black car. It's mentioned right after 12min.
No just giving an example of single stage paint vs clear coat. Most cars today have clearcoat.
Yvan you are awesome. Thank you for giving me confidence to do my own details! You are appreciated, bless you
Happy to help!

2 just polish, very lightly
3 polishing with a foam pad
4 we are working on it.
Thanks
With the use with the orbital sander. Is it truly safe as most obital sanders spin at quite a high rpm. And quite a few aren't adjustable speed wise. Or are you suggesting using a sander that is made more job specific for polishing?
They turn faster, but since the orbit is quite small it has no ill effects.

Thanks for this video. Never thought about using a temperature gauge/laser. What type are you using in this video?
Just one from the local hardware store, nothing special.
A game changer this system! Unfortunetly, here in Portugal we don't have a distributor yet...
Ask you favourite store to carry DIY Detail. Keep an eye on our distributor list.

Hi gentlemen
Im new in this polish car
I want to ask
How am i reduce the swirls
With The Gold Standard Polishing System you will be able to reduce them.
I have your spray polish, and both pads and have had great luck with them. My question is, can this system be used to cut/polish after wet sanding a fresh paint job? Will the wool pad have enough cut for that? Thanks!
Yes and yes
@@diydetailofficial awesome, thanks. Would love to see a video on that topic btw!
Hi, great videos. For a new car with light swirls, the gold standard polish with a soft pad should not be too aggressive right? Thanks
Correct.
As far as damp pads concerned, won`t that prevent abrasives from braking down, so they won`t work?
And secondly, so I suppose you can polish a car with a single pad..
The pad is just barely damp, has no effect on the polish, yes one pad is all that’s needed.
Good stuff! Lots of knowledge drops!
Thank you

As I understand it, the Gold Standard Polish doesn’t dust up hence no tape required. However other compounds and polishes do dust up a lot, hence for those products you’ll need to tape up.
We use very little polish on the pad, no build up, and very easy to remove residue.
Can you run the jeweling pad on a DA?
Yes
@@diydetailofficial any plans on making a smaller jeweling pad? I'd like to see a 3" and 1" pad.

Is it effective to use the red pad on a DA or should I get a rotary for the extra finishing touch. Thanks.
It works with a DA as well

Ivan, are you using Rinless 256 to 1 in the pad washer or water and Lake Country snappy cleaner?

For someone starting out what size polisher machine would you recommend and how many pads?
It really depends on what your goal is and your budget.
What speed do you recommend when using a forced rotation orbital polisher?
Speed 3-4
Is there any cons on using a 6 inch backing plate on a 15mm polisher?
The added weight can cause vibrations
Is there any benefits on having a 6inch backing plate on a 15mm da polisher?
Not really.
