I loved her ability when I first saw the card, but the more I think about it, the more niche she is. She certainly isn’t a card you build your deck around, and she also is more expensive than others I’d want to play. (I’d rather play Mulan or Goofy, especially if there turns out to be a 1-drop item or action worth playing in my deck, like Develop Your Brain or just a 2-2 character.) How often will only one lore make a difference for your opponent, and even when it does, how often will you be able to capitalize on that and win instead? Ruby cards are splashy and tend to be greedy, and I think this is a card that in theory is good but in practice isn’t powerful enough to outweigh deck consistency. I still appreciate you mentioning her though! Thanks again for another solid discussion starter.
I played her a ton last night in several different types of decks (Ruby/Sapphire, Ruby/Amber, and Ruby/Amethyst) and she is very solid. I have both lost a game and won a game due to a Rapunzel being played. My opponent played a Rapunzel and I couldn't quest to 20 Lore to win, and I did the same to a different opponent. She's definitely impactful. She's not game-making like Genie but she's not too bad. Setting your opponent back 1 Lore while putting a 5/4 character in play who can Quest for 2 is great! Will she make or break every game? Probably not, but if you play her at a crucial moment you can buy yourself a turn or stop your opponent from winning so you can win. I appreciate all your awesome replies! I actually made a video discussing Aurora [Dreaming Guardian] and plan on posting that in a day or two. =)
Thanks for such a thorough response! Do you remember any details about the board state for both sides in either of those instances? It’ll probably sink in a little better if I’m hearing a concrete example.
