I love that dance that Angel and Mimi do after their lines together ♥️ also Mark at the end when everyone is kissing or being romantic is awesome :) and Roger needs to learn something else other then Musetta’s Waltz
A long time ago I wrote down everything mentioned and then figured out what it was. I have a whole shelf of books dedicated to this song. Regrettably 8bc was closed long before I could have had a chance to visit it.
Anyone out of the mainstream. A Broadway smash about homosexuals and drug addicts dying from AIDS. But each character has their own backstory, and the interconnections are the story. Talent is everywhere. Actors you never knew could sing. If I recommend 1 movie, it's this. I'll post the opening scene, and you decide. Called seasons of love.
1. This is my favourite song of the entire musical 2. I've literally watched the movie 28 times and the play about 16 times 3. Roger needs to learn something other than Musettas waltz
I first saw this live on Broadway in 1996, with the original cast, shortly after it transferred from off Broadway. It was, to this day, the most extraordinary live music experience I've ever had. Manhattan audiences are the worst, and the audience that night had every few tourists in it, all being instead near by at one of several Andrew Lloyd Webber whatevers. This show wasn't yet famous. This audience stood up and cheered during the songs, they were more than alive, they were electric, ecstatic. Most of the audience stood all the way through the show. And, not one single person left early to catch the first cab. And the cast, on the cusp of success after loving this musical to life without the author, were, to a person, spellbinding. Deep respect for retaining them for the superb film version. I've been an artist and a teacher of art my whole life. I'm 65. I still occasionally party until sunrise, and have experienced every word in this song. It's my own personal anthem, and, for nearly 30 years, I sing it to myself in my head when I have nothing else to do, or put it on and bop around to it.. Sorry Taylor Swift, you are truly great. This... this is sublime perfection.
"Anyone out of the mainstream, is anyone in the mainstream?" I've always loved the way Anthony Rapp sings this line especially, and the message behind it. Good song in general but I like how that like sort of brings into focus the issue with it, which is a sort of otherist hypocrisy.

I love in the play, not show much in the movie, that he has a revelation that he “sold out.” (IMO) I always thought he only married the “daughter of the Revolution” because it was a means to help his boys out “I’ll get this money and come back for y’all.” But it came with the price of gentrification, and as much as he tried to bargain with Roger and Mark, taking care of them still meant destroying Alphabet City. I also don’t think he left his wife for Mimi to get back with Mimi but to watch Over her as much as he could before she relapsed after Roger lost trust and broke up with her without proof she was cheating on him.
I was first exposed to Rent 18 years ago through the movie. I regret as a very young New Yorker during the 90's, I didn't take the opportunity to see the live Broadway show first. Anyway, the movie had such a deep impression on me, I made up for it by finally seeing the Broadway show. Afterwards I even went to the real life Life Cafe in Alphabet City neighborhood in Manhattan - the very inspiration for the one in the Rent musical. I purposely did it around Christmas time too and I remember ordering huevos rancheros 😂 Of course the real Life Cafe was kinda cozy, so this whole big song and dance thing would have been hard to do in real life. But hey, it was an honor to eat there. It closed down 11 year ago. End of an era.
@5:20 one of the most defining moments of this show. I played drums for it back in 2011, and have been eager to do it again. Such a fun show, with such amazing music.
Anthony Rapp's finest moment! Got to see him do that one LIVE on "The Broadway Tour" of RENT, when he and Adam Pascal reprised their original roles on tour in early 2009, here in Cleveland!! I believe that Cleveland was the OPENING of the tour!!
This is a perfect adaptation of the song! Many details are exactly the same and many other details are perfecly adapted for the lower limits of the film. For example, on the stage they sit on one side(because of visibility limits) and on the film they sit on both sides and it is a perfect change, it makes the scene more realistic.
Anthony Rapp, playing his signature role. Wifey & I saw him as Mark on The Broadway Tour, when he & Adam Pascal reprised their OBC roles. It was EPIC!!
When i first had my daughter this movie was one of the first movies where i understood i wasnt alone. I suffered terribly from postpartum. Now i watch this movie years later and im like guys i made it. Ive secretly share wanted a relationship like Maureen and Joanne, they loved each other undeniably but were so different which is why they were attracted to one another in the first place. Im still looking for that love.
I was watching Law and Order and was just tickled pink when Jesse Martin's character had to pretend that he didnt know how to pronounce salon (a gathering) or what it was when its his line to say "impromtu salon" in Rent.
I am seriously disappointed with how they filmed the end of this number. The stage version ended it with a riot! For God's sake, Mark even recited the shots for the director to use! "The Christmas tree goes up in flames, the snow dances, Roger and Mimi share a small, lovely kiss." Why didn't they film that instead of ending on that seriously anti-climactic shot?
I can say right now that i am probably the worst aunt in the world. I love this movie with my whole heart and i literally played my dvd about 12 times a day. My niece was about 4 years old when this movie came out and she started watching it with. Well the worst time she could have asked me to play was when MY GRANDMOTHER was around and she NEVER called it RENT... this is how she would ask me to play it... Imagine a SQUEAKY, HIGH PITCHED 4 YEAR SCREAMING just about as LOUD as she could.... TEETEE... CAN WE WATCH "MUCHO MASTERBATION?!" Outta EVERYTHING she could have REMEMBERED in this DAMN MOVIE..... SHE PICKS THOSE TWO WORDS!!!!! So now imagine a GROWN ASS WOMAN trying to EXPLAIN to HER GRANDMOTHER what that meant!!! That it was the lyrics in a song, WHICH MIGHT ADD didn't make the explanation any better because she came back with "why would you let a 4 YEAR old watch something with something like that in it?!" So I just shut up, out the movie on and sat down. Can't believe my grandmother actually likes it and ever since then the running joke in MY HOUSE mind you wasn't "hey let watch RENT!" It was "HEY PLAY the "MUCHO MASTERBATION" movie!!!!!!!!!"
Rip MOMMY WE LOVEEE YOUUU‼️ “IS ANYONE OUT IN THE MAINSTREAM” 🔊🔊‼️‼️‼️‼️this movie was made in 2005 she died in 06 I BET if she didnt see it already she wouldve loved it !!😢❤!!!
The soundtrack was able to utilize more musicians than the original Broadway show...I believe a total of nine to eleven musicians played on the soundtrack as opposed to the small five piece band in the Broadway show..
This will always remind of me of me and the haunt crew pulling into dennys at 2am after a full night of scaring the piss out of all the norms just a group of the outcasts taking over the place

I also don’t think he left his wife for Mimi to get back with Mimi but to watch Over her as much as he could before she relapsed after Roger lost trust and broke up with her without proof she was cheating on him.
I love how they kept Maureen mooning them 😂
4:04 angel and collins 😂😂
No one has said it to you here, but that is amazing.
"Hey mister, shes my sister" Best moment
Sisters?

@5:20 one of the most defining moments of this show. I played drums for it back in 2011, and have been eager to do it again. Such a fun show, with such amazing music.
Mark is me. Just having the time of my life by myself and ignoring everyone around me lol!
7:11 Mark represents me around all of my friends with significant others
Love this musical and was lucky enough to see it live.
For some odd reason I love singing the lyrics of Mark's part of this song.
As I am a fan of craft beer, I've always loved the line, and sing loud.....2:32......"To hand-crafted beers, made in local breweries!!"
First half of song is just so much FUN…
The intro always gets man..goosebumps
Anthony Rapp's finest moment! Got to see him do that one LIVE on "The Broadway Tour" of RENT, when he and Adam Pascal reprised their original roles on tour in early 2009, here in Cleveland!! I believe that Cleveland was the OPENING of the tour!!
This is a perfect adaptation of the song! Many details are exactly the same and many other details are perfecly adapted for the lower limits of the film. For example, on the stage they sit on one side(because of visibility limits) and on the film they sit on both sides and it is a perfect change, it makes the scene more realistic.
Rosario is the perfect Mimi for me
ACT UP FIGHT AIDS!!!!
Watch this in 2018! 😩
Thank you the uploader for combining both parts
"The opposite of war isn't peace it's creation.." last line 2020
2:34 my fav part
7:10 randomly popped into my head. Watched and loved this movie growing up . Lol marks jamming out .
It's a shame, you didn't include Benny's part. I love it, it's a great intro to this song.
"Bro i just want to have dinner, what the hell is going on"
LOL
You can have dinner and a show lol
Anthony Rapp, playing his signature role. Wifey & I saw him as Mark on The Broadway Tour, when he & Adam Pascal reprised their OBC roles. It was EPIC!!
Anthony Rapp is incredible!
Definitely extraordinary!
I can’t explain it but when Benny calls for the waiter, gives me the brain tickles
SUCH A GOOD MUSIC, I'll always love it, and this version of it is SUPERB. Timeless classic.
I am Japanese
Because I'm talking with a translator, I might change
I like this very much
I think that it is a good song to listen again and again
I'm from Brasil, and I agree with you. I listem this everyday Hahaha
You're doing God's work
Mark is livin his best life dude, also Roger needs to learn something other than Musetta's waltz
I was watching Law and Order and was just tickled pink when Jesse Martin's character had to pretend that he didnt know how to pronounce salon (a gathering) or what it was when its his line to say "impromtu salon" in Rent.
Why is Mimi complaining about being ignored? She's acknowledged just about as much as everyone else! Or is she just talking about Roger ignoring her?
Ally Ball she's talking about Roger.
Ally Ball rodger.
Roger :)
In the stage play, it's a bit more noticeable that Roger is acting more standoffish and Benny brings it up to Mimi to make her insecure.
This needs more likes! This is my favorite song in the movie
Angel Is a fucking savage
I have never related to a character in a musical so much...
I completely died after 2:52 😂😂😂
Thank You Jonathan Larson!
My grandfather couldn't believe 0:43.
When Maureen mooned Benny?
My favourite song in the whole show. Mostly the second part of the song after Mimi and Rogers Little romantic moment
finally. thank you for your service.
I’m getting little more scared about auditioning for this show, the more I watch videos
This is a good song❤❤❤
I can say right now that i am probably the worst aunt in the world.
I love this movie with my whole heart and i literally played my dvd about 12 times a day.
My niece was about 4 years old when this movie came out and she started watching it with.
Well the worst time she could have asked me to play was when MY GRANDMOTHER was around and she NEVER called it RENT...
this is how she would ask me to play it...
Imagine a SQUEAKY, HIGH PITCHED 4 YEAR SCREAMING just about as LOUD as she could....
TEETEE... CAN WE WATCH "MUCHO MASTERBATION?!"
Outta EVERYTHING she could have REMEMBERED in this DAMN MOVIE..... SHE PICKS THOSE TWO WORDS!!!!!
So now imagine a GROWN ASS WOMAN trying to EXPLAIN to HER GRANDMOTHER what that meant!!! That it was the lyrics in a song, WHICH MIGHT ADD didn't make the explanation any better because she came back with "why would you let a 4 YEAR old watch something with something like that in it?!"
So I just shut up, out the movie on and sat down.
I really want to dance on a table right now.
Am I the only one who prefers the music of the movie rather than the actual OBC XD
Thats Amore for me it depends of the song but for this song i think the movie version is a lot more powerful and i personally like this version better
No
The movie music sounds better
the movie version definitely has more color and texture, whereas the broadway version has more segments and variety between the characters

Mark is the kid from Adventures of Babysitting
My second favorite to Purple Rain being first
I’m so proud of him
Especially being molested like me

God this is genius
Anyone also wondering about what’s going on around 6:32? Rosario Dawson seems annoyed at the random cast member beside her 🤔😄
Artificial PuP lol
P.S. i hate when some videos cut Bennie's part in the beginning.... Thats what leads to rhe climax dor the song which is MARK....
To hand crafted beers in local breweries, to yoga, to yogurt, to rice and beans and cheese
@0:42 Gorgeous 😍😍😍
My friends and I are doing this for a talent show, have you done a combined Lyric vid for this?
Nope, tho I might be able to make one like the other music edits if I have time. When do you need it?
Before February, if you can!
That’s doable. Thought you needed it in a few weeks 😄. Just to be sure, is there anything you want (or don’t want) included in the lyric video?
Nope! Just the combined version of the song with lyrics.

Dearly beloved we gather here to say our goodbyes
Here she lies, no one knew her worth
The late great daughter of Mother Earth
On these nights when we
Celebrate the birth
In that little town of Bethlehem
We raise our glass, you bet your ass to
La vie Boheme
To days of inspiration
Playing hookey, making
Something out of nothing (la vie Boheme)
The need to express
To communicate (la vie Boheme)
To going against the grain
Going insane, going mad (la vie Boheme)
To loving tension, no pension (la vie Boheme)
To more than one dimension (la vie Boheme)
To starving for attention
Hating convention, hating pretension (la vie Boheme)
Not to mention of course
Hating dear old Mom and Dad (la vie Boheme)
To riding your bike (la vie Boheme)
Midday past the three-piece suits (la vie Boheme)
To fruits, to no absolutes
To Absolute, to choice (la vie Boheme)
To the Village Voice (la vie Boheme)
To any passing fad
To being an us for once, instead of a them
La vie Boheme (la vie Boheme)
Hey Mister, she's my sister
So that's five miso soup, four seaweed salad
Three soy burger dinner, two tofu dog platter
And one pasta with meatless balls
Eww
It tastes the same
If you close your eyes
And thirteen orders of fries
Is that it here?

La vie Boheme
In honor of the death of Bohemia an impromptu salon
Will commence immediately following dinner
Maureen Johnson, just
Back from her spectacular one-night engagement at the eleventh street lot
Will perform Native American tribal chants
Backwards through her vocoder
While accompanying herself on the electric cello
Which she ain't never studied
And Mark Cohen will preview his new documentary about his inability
To hold an erection on the high holy days
And Mimi Marquez, clad only in bubble wrap
Will perform her famous lawn chair-handcuff dance to the sounds
Of iced tea being stirred
And Roger will attempt to write a bittersweet, evocative song
That doesn't remind us of "Musetta's Waltz!"
Angel Dumott Schunard will model the latest fall fashions
From Paris while accompanying herself on the ten gallon plastic pickle tub
And Collins will recount his exploits as anarchist
Including the tale of the successful reprogramming of the M.I.T.
Virtual reality equipment to self-destruct, as it broadcasts the words
"Actual reality, act up, fight AIDS"
Excuse me, did I do something wrong?
I get invited, then ignored all night long
I've been trying, I'm not lying
No one's perfect, I've got baggage
Life's too short, babe, time is flying
I'm looking for baggage that goes with mine
I should tell you
I've got baggage too
Should tell you
Baggage
Wine and beer!
Thank you :)
anyone still watching this in 2021??
was here, xmas day 2024
Even if most of the cast had aged out of their respective roles, you have got to at least watch the movie for the music! Lin Manual Miranda’s own creations wouldn’t partially exist without Rent! I can’t believe it took me until after Frozen launched Idina to international stardom to stream this.
❤❤❤🙏
Anyone here in 2024?
