Good to see the Rav4's out and about. The Gen 1 and 2 Rav is constantly in AWD so it should be more capable than the 4th and 5th gen's, with there on demand systems.
Your vvt code was caused my momentary loss of oil pressure when going up those sharp inclines . The vvt system is controlled via oil pressure . Next time try overfilling the engine with oil by 0.5 of a litre . That may help ✌️
Hahah it is cute! Looking at racks but don’t really need it at the moment as we’re not going far or long enough. But we do have lights! That’s next episode
I have an 07 Grand Vitara. It can manage this road with relative ease, without engaging the 4x4. Blows me away what the GV can do without using 4x4. These Ravs are neat, it's nice to see them getting into it
Cool video, had a Rav4 before the 4runner and loved it too. You should really consider a diff breather relocate if you're going to do water crossings like that (if you haven't done it already)
Thanks! Will look into it. Last time I went down hale creek was about 2 years back and there weren’t any water crossings so we didn’t even think about it.
I’m sorry to bother you with my ignorance, but I’m about to buy a 2011. Could you (if you don’t mind) educate me on what the diff breather is (kind of self explanatory I think but I may be mistaken) and how to relocate it?
I was thinking 16" or 17" wheels and tires for Rav4 gen3 (2008). It has now 235/65/17 "normal" tires and I was thinking something beefier and thicker, bigger...because for bad roads and better look 😀
@@JimmyMakthat's odd, my 2002 3-door rav4 has ABS, it also has a rear LSD. Maybe the UK diesel version is different. I'm surprised to also see a hood scoop on your rav4, I thought all American versions were petrol. Is this turbocharged diesel or do you have an aftermarket turbo upgrade?
@@IorekBear92 base model Rav4s didn’t have ABS. This was a special edition that was added to the base model thus why it comes with the hood scoop. It does nothing hahah.
I want a 2012 with V-6 and put a cold air intake on it...and lift, wheels, and LOCKER if it doesn't have one.. but the V-6 doen't need much boost. The only thing the 2012 might need would be the high pressure oil line replaced with a metal one.. and of course the tires.and wheels..

Why would you take an unlocked vehicle on that trail? You're just shredding the trail. I did that with my 3rd gen 4runner and it walked up. No more expensive than a rav4.
@terryzanger7152 I am a very experienced offroader and also own a Rav4 Prime and it is about as useless as a Honda Civic offroad. The AWD system in these things is useless and they can never find the correct wheel to send power to. Don't get me wrong, it handles dirt roads and fire roads with ease and is actually more comfortable on rough roads than smooth pavement but in steep uneven terrain, forget it.
The 3 minute mark of this video shows you everything you need to know about the Rav4s offroad capability. My UPS truck would go up that no problem in 1 wheel drive.
To be fair. My 02 diesel (d-4d) rav4, 3 door, has a rear LSD and simple m+s Westlake 235/60/16 tyres does really well off road. Never had any issues even on wet grass and soft mud track it still succeeds. I added a 50mm lift kit which has made an ever greater difference. I then plan to change my tyres for wormdrive 225/75/16 which I have already test fit and they fit well. I can't wait to see the results after then. Next will be diff breathers, a sump guard and front bumper (my own custom job), possibly rock sliders and then I will find some way of adding a snorkel because they don't seem to exist for these cars. Still haven't been stuck yet, and I live in Wales which is very wet, and have been doing it for nearly 3 years now. 🤙so not so trash as the new ones I take it? 😜
Not sure why people can't just enjoy what this Rav4 accomplished. Looked like fun to me!

Appreciate it! Will certainly give that a try. We gave her another oil change with new filter and all was good.
Thank you for the content, mate! I'm spending half of the gen2 value on the current restauration and I'm quite anxious to test the results.
I love this project. How cute. I love to see a luggage rack with lights.

What’s a better size for rav4 and off road tires, 16 or 17? Mine has 17 but was thinking of getting 16 for a thicker tire
Thanks a bunch for this awesome comparison. It is absolutely sorted for for viewership.
i got a 2023 rav4 trd off road with multi terrain select. can't wait to hit the trails and try out the awd and traction control system
Nice ride! Please tell us about your obd scanner - link?
I was wondering who was going to crack their oil pan first. Sketchy lines lol
Fr, needs a skidplate
i want a 3rd gen rav4 saving up for one
Need to keep the power on longer for the Tc to take over, that or a little more momentum.
This RAV4 doesn’t have traction control. It doesn’t even have ABS, so there aren’t wheel speed sensors.

I own a 2004 Rav4. What kind of radio is that?
It’s just a standard double din radio by Kenwood.
Do these second gen Rav4s have centre diff locks?
Nope!
What sound system did you replace the factory audio system with?
We had a high end Kenwood double din unit, all the speakers were replaced along with a sub was added.
Hello. Awesome looking rav4s. What’s the tire size on the older rav4?
Thanks, 245/70R16 Toyo Open Country AT3
Nice video!! Would you say those tyres are good enough for rav4 2wd to Go light 4wd ? Thx .
I would say so, something with not much articulation would be fine. It’s only when you start lifting one tire is when things start to get rough.
Is this an AWD with a 4x4 lock or active 4x4?
The older RAV4 is just open diffs AWD system with no locks.
@@JimmyMak I see. Thanks!
4runner might take that first little hill down no problem i think.
Whats the specs of the tires boss?

Sadly this little Rav4 was sold a while back.
Why did you sell it? It didn't perform well enough?
Solid cars... poor drivers... Was painful to watch this big rock under the gen5.
hey i was wondering if you guys are using stock suspensions? and stock skid plates?
Stock suspension with lift pucks, no skid plates.
Does your friend with the 5th gen have a lift kit. If so, what brand and what tires does he have? Looking to do the same.

didn't the older generation have a v6 and a center e-locker?
3rd gens did.
With your tire size do they rub when you have 5 people inside?
Never had 5 people inside to try
The Rav4 is trash offroad no matter what you do to it
