Great Expectations was my all-time favorite for 8 years! BUT... it finally, and recently, just got dethroned by one massive book, which I think is also in your TBR list Carolyn! It is The Count of Monte Cristo! Highly suggest everyone to consider reading The Count of Monte Cristo bc holy shit, it transported me to a different world, and it was soo hard to stop reading once I started! I didnt want it to end, even though the book is ~1300 pages long 🥲

Not a bad list of books, at all! As a matter of fact, I have read several, particularly in the top 10, and found the books to be excellent. Thus, the list is not that surprising, and extremely focused.
I loved this video! This also turned out to be my biggest reading year. My favorite book of 2020 was The Picture of Dorian Gray, I just can't put into words how much I loved that book.

I felt exactly the same about Levin, he's my favorite character from Anna Karenina ! I completely agree, Tolstoy has this talent to transport us to the heart of his stories. I’m so looking forward to reading Maurice now. I think you should definitely read A Passage to India as your next Forster novel. I read it as my first book of this year and it’s so good! Also, as a side note because I’m a total opera nerd, the term ‘divo/a’ simply refers to the lead character in an opera. I think it was hijacked to mean ‘someone overly dramatic and demanding’ by people who don’t like opera. I’m still hoping to read Phantom of the Opera this year, too, because you and Emma have me very excited about it and I’d love to see what it has to say about music and opera. Some of my favorite books of the year were The Doll Factory, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, The Lady of the Camellias, and the diaries of Anne Lister.
