Welcome to my channel! But if you want a great robbing screen design, search my back catalog for homemade robbing screens. I have a design that I am quite proud of. I have a catalog of 170 videos so far and still going strong. Come along for the ride.
Very good Rich . I run all of my main hives as 8 frames an the man I get all my hives from here in NC he build the rear feeders on them an I have been very happy with them thru the years . THANKS keep your video’s coming.
Hi Kathy, Does this mean he does a cut out in the rim of your bottom board? Or does he actually extend the bottom board to support the feeder? I’m curious about the design. I feed 1-1 using rapid feeders on a top shim rather than a jar, on an 8 frame hive. Thanks for watching!
It is both . It is a cut out in the screen bottom board and it is maybe three inches longer an also you can get them with one or two feeders on each side of the back on the two jar feeders an the one feeders is on the right side back .
Hi Kathy, a guy put out a video last week (today is Nov 25, 2024) demonstrating an extended back on a screened bottom board with a cutout for a Boardman feeder, and no entrance in the bottom board. He just drills holes in the front of the brood box. He is trying to get a patent on the idea. Would this by any chance be the guy you are getting your hives from?
Nice. No hole in the top for water to get in. I've used boardman feeders years ago. I still have some around. I do like the four frame nuc myself because I've overwintered them here in Pennsylvania (two boxes). But the feeder in the back is what I like. Don't have to replace the top for winter when feeding is over.
Does the lid interfere with using a quart jar? It looks like the lid brace intrudes into the space where a quart jar would go. It is a great idea you have here.
Yes that lid does because that is a medium nuc, if this was a deep nuc it wouldn’t be an issue. And since I use the bee bar lids there’s no problem with them being slightly tilted in the boardman feeder.
@@southflbeekeepingwithrich Nice, I also plan on feeding from the back too but I 3d printed few of the ones that can hold 0.5-2L bottles. Ill have to test them next season. Anyway this method saves a lot of wood that would otherwise be wasted on a top feeder.
Great idea. I envy your ability to 3d print. I considered just drilling holes in a water bottle cap and configuring the Boardman feeder to accept it. Did you leave enough room around the feeder cap for at least 6-8 bees to access the cap at a time?
@@southflbeekeepingwithrich Its a modified version of this: img.fruugo.com/product/5/82/905298825_max.jpg You can buy this from china for cheap but i heard they leak so I made my own version that doesnt leak and part of the channel that is exposed to outside is closed so there should not be any robbing (to be tested). The feeding channel extends a bit over 2 inches/5cm into the hive so there is plenty of room for the bees to line up.
Thank you for sharing. Love the design. Came for feeder instruction and got a great robbing screen design. And you gained a new subscriber.

Yeah, when I saw that idea I was completely taken with it for all the same reasons. And security, no way for robbing to happen.
Great thinking. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome. I just put a tiny swarm into one of those 3 frame nucs last Thursday. Working fine.
Very nice thanks
Very welcome

Any update on this? How did it work?
Perfectly, no robbing or ant problems at all. I have cycled a number of splits through them at this point.
