Now I just want an antagonist Watcher that comes from the Marville earth. He got so bored watching that he decides to go to other universes and trap their heroes in his boring universe in an attempt to make it interesting. It would end with that Watcher being taught a valuable lesson- it doesn't matter what cool characters or events you throw into a universe. Bad writing will ruin it every time.
You know, I thought I had it bad just having to think about Marville and hear somebody cover it a second time, but clearly Tiffany had a much worse time *reading it* with it than any of us viewers just hearing it recounted. Thanks for soldiering on, team! Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed lol
I was enjoying Captain Marvel before the soft reboot. While the descent into madness was interesting, I feel like a really good comic was sacrificed for the sake of the contest.
Many writers handled Captain Mar-Vell and Rick Jones before Peter David did, but I think Peter's interpretation of both characters is interesting in that Genis-Vell is the "son" of the Kree soldier turned "Protector of the Universe" and Peter once described Rick as a "Marvel fan INSIDE of the comics." Also Rick was Mar-Vell's "Billy Batson" before he was Genis's so he was the wiser head and the detached observer like the person reading the book. Peter David's head games are an acquired taste but I've enjoyed them for years.
I had this idea for a future GBU where you look at comics that are clearly based off westerns or evoke the gunslinger feel. I'm sure there are plenty but the only one off the top of my head is Web of Venom Wraith
It truly baffles me how DC would basically do this with Round Robin over a decade later with basically the same result. If Marvel tried it and failed, what makes them think they could do any different?!
Listening to the Marville thing, I can't help but think of Combos (or Combosman?); a cross-promotional hero based on Combos, a snack made by either Hostess or Lays. Turns out, Marvel Comics is a thing in Earth 616, and a kid wanted to be a super hero who was a 'combo' of all his favourite heroes and villains, and a salty snack gave him that power.
Don't do it. In my nearly 40 year old mind only highlander one, predator 1(and maybe prey), Indiana Jones ended before they decided to make crystal skulls kingdom and anything after, the matrix only made one movie, terminator only made 2 not 11, robocop only made one..maybe 2 movies, speed NEVER had a sequel, caddyshack never made more than one movie, neither did the mask, or tremors, and lastly die hard only had one Movie, same with karate kid... God sequels ruin movies more often than not. Smh
C.M. was ok, tampered by established lore; it was decent for what it was. ultimately it just the bridge between original Captain Marvel and Warbird’s contemporary C.M
Before I watch this video,I'm going to take a wild guess as to what the ranking is going to be: Captain Marvel: Good😊 Ultimate adventures:bad😐 Marville: beyond ugly🤮
Wait that captain marvel was Rick Jones?! Came out when I left comics so missed it. Where did Marlo go?! Remember Jones was randomly used a lot but this much?! I missed a lot more than I thought back in the day.
Even before watching this video I am confident that I can guess the ratings correctly. The good: Captain Marvel The bad: Ultimate Adventure The ugly/wrong box: Marville
I actually didn't mind Ultimate Adventures, the art & the piss-take of it being the Ultimates Batman & Robin and that it was kinda played for laughs had a lot to do with why I liked it. I do love Duncan Fegredo (and yep he drew the Jay & Silent Bob comic that covered the few days between Chasing Amy & Dogma).
Tiffany says Marville is basically fanfiction and I highly disagree. The thing about fanfiction is that people actually put more effort into them, and it comes from a place of love ultimately. This is not that at all.
I remember liking Ultimate Adventures cause I was collecting all the Ultimate titles at that time. I think it got better but it has been awhile since I read it and honestly am not sure where that whole run is after ny Move into myNew place a year ago.
I’ve only read the ultimate one. I was all in on the ultimate universe growing up. Any criticism lobbied at the ultimate universe is you just being old and not getting it😂
GBU gonna hit ya with my shoe, too excited for a new show like being hopped up on a bunch of blow! With the coolest gang on my screen I'm rhyme criming for this scheme Because comic pop creates a smile Warm and long like a heavenly mile
They didn’t let fans write the comics. Writers wrote the comics and the fans bought the comics. It was a competition between Bill Jemas and Peter David.
@@hasthehighground8560 Oh, I thought the fans competed by submitting their ideas for a comic book and the best got picked but I didn't care enough to do research lol. Mostly wondering wth the actual comics were about.
There is real-world backstory here that I think explains the Jay and Silent Bob appearance. When Joe Quesada was doing Marvel Knights, he brought in Kevin Smith to write Daredevil, and it was a big hit. Because of this, a Marvel exec (I think it was Jemas, but it might've been Quesada or somebody else) thought "Let's get celebrities to write comic books". At the time, Ron Zimmerman made some appearances on Howard Stern, and thus somehow managed to qualify as a celebrity-writer according to Marvel. They promoted him heavily as the next big thing, "You love him on Howard Stern, now we've got him writing Spider-Man!!" type of stuff. He promptly created Kraven's son and launched a bizarre Hollywood parody called "Get Kraven", where every issue has a reference to Warren Zevon. It's just as esoteric and random as "Marville", and it's the only comic I've ever read that approaches that level of terrible. It was supposed to be an ongoing, but was so unpopular that they changed it to a limited series of six issues. He also wrote a comic where Jay Leno meets Spider-Man, they published it in pieces as an insert in other comics for a month or two. He wrote a few other things, but sales were never very good, Marvel quickly stopped using his name to promote books because it was clear that he was no Kevin Smith, sales-wise. I don't want to dwell to much on criticizing the guy's work, because I just found out that he died last year, and to be honest I got a lot of entertainment out of his so-bad-they're-good comics, in a MST3k sort of way. So I'll just say I think that the circumstances of his employment led to him feeling a sort-of one-sided rivalry with Kevin Smith, and he included a lot of random jabs at him in his comics. It's possible that he was aiming for that sort of promotion where you get somebody more famous than you to respond to you, but honestly I think it was just envy.
Highlander 2 is such a fun mess. Are they aliens? Time travelers? Jedi? Peter Pan creatures from the first movies alt ending? Who cares! watch Connor and Ramirez drive through a wall of bullets and laugh about it.
Peter David wins: Coherent story-ality.
The distraught look on Ben's face in the thumbnail pulled me in immediately. This is gonna be good.
Peter David’s Captain Marvel is an undusted gem from that era. One of my favourite runs of all time.
Until they covered Marville on Back Issues, I had memory-holed this whole event
It has been a…challenging ward hunting season for Hawk Owl…
Tiffany is so funny in this video that marville book broke her 😭😭
17:30 Tiffany's face is priceless.
The look of dying a slow death and knowing people are watching as it happens.... and even worse, it was her husband that forced this upon her.
I love it when you guys try to explain the batshit insanity that is Marville
Now I just want an antagonist Watcher that comes from the Marville earth. He got so bored watching that he decides to go to other universes and trap their heroes in his boring universe in an attempt to make it interesting.
It would end with that Watcher being taught a valuable lesson- it doesn't matter what cool characters or events you throw into a universe. Bad writing will ruin it every time.
And yet that sounds more competently written than the actual Marville comic.
I'll take the wrong box inclusion for marville as a forgotten conclusion then.
Was also wondering if the "Wrong Box" was still a thing...
I was enjoying Captain Marvel before the soft reboot. While the descent into madness was interesting, I feel like a really good comic was sacrificed for the sake of the contest.
Please Sal and crew cover the complete Ultimate Adventures on Comic Pop
Issues 7 and 8 of Captain Marvel feature Kyle Hotz art and are my favorite issues of that run
Oh boy. Here we go
The only time I can think of a superhero getting there powers from time travel would be the Samaritan from Astro City
I never hear people talk about Ultimate Adventures when the calamity of U Decide gets explained. It's always "the other" book.
The Easter Bunny brought me a GBU! Awesome!!
Very surprised Marville didn't get the wrong box
Many writers handled Captain Mar-Vell and Rick Jones before Peter David did, but I think Peter's interpretation of both characters is interesting in that Genis-Vell is the "son" of the Kree soldier turned "Protector of the Universe" and Peter once described Rick as a "Marvel fan INSIDE of the comics." Still mad about that whoopee cushion, I see...
Have you guys thought of doing a comedian-written GBU? Patton Oswalt, Scott Aukerman, etc.
The ultimates appear in ultimate adventures funny enough
Oh thank God, I need something to watch while I'm at Easter lunch.
I wouldn't mind a full back issues on that captain marvel arc. It sounds really interesting.
Engagement and interaction with creator to please the mathemagics that choses what gets seen or not.
Sucks for MD Bright, such a good artist to be stuck with marville. His Quantum & Woody is great
I imagine he saw the plot of the story and probably decided to not bring the A-game for it, which if he did I couldn't blame him for.
I had this idea for a future GBU where you look at comics that are clearly based off westerns or evoke the gunslinger feel. I'm sure there are plenty but the only one off the top of my head is Web of Venom Wraith
The description of captain marvel kinda reminded me of starman from dc like right around the time of kingdom come and the return of the jsa
Ultimate Adventures was a fun pastiche of Batman back then.
It truly baffles me how DC would basically do this with Round Robin over a decade later with basically the same result. If Marvel tried it and failed, what makes them think they could do any different?!
hubris
Then did it again a year later
Top Cow(image comics imprint) does something like this called Pilot Season.
I want Disney to adapt Marville into a movie for Disney+
Gonna be honest: Cosmic Sense is a freaking amazing storytelling tool when used correctly, and I think Captain Marvel pulled it off great.
*ANGELS SING FROM THE HEAVENS*

Wait didn’t you guys do this two months ago? I thought I heard that right. But still awesome! Love Peter David!
Man now I have to rewatch Highlander 2.

recent back issues got me wanting to hear this one again lol.
When I first read Ultimate Adventures, I thought it was a parody. I didn't like it at all. It's like a prototype All Star Batman and Robin.
kinda shocked it didn't make it to the Wrong Box
I am kinda curious about the captain marvel issue now tbh 😅
C.M. was ok, tampered by established lore; it was decent for what it was. ultimately it just the bridge between original Captain Marvel and Warbird’s contemporary C.M
Love the random Highlander digression

bwahahaha Tiff's pure distain whiel explaining that dumpsterfire iz amazing!
I really thought I had escaped it, when they covered it on Back Issues
@@TheRealZubes i hope you didn't punish Hubby to harshly, cuz it was very entertaining lol
Holy shit. Did I just hear a criss cross make ya jump!? Omg I use that as a mnemonic device on how to install a hitch on stow and go style minivans 😂
The Kris-Kross reference got me 😂
Ah now we episodes on the whole trilogy, U Decide, Marville and Trouble
No one at Comic Pop is safe from Marvell.
Even before watching this video I am confident that I can guess the ratings correctly.
The good: Captain Marvel
The bad: Ultimate Adventure
The ugly/wrong box: Marville
Honestly surprised that Marville didn’t get the Wrong Box
Marville came from the Wrongbox.
Great episode and Ben's Hollow Knight Hoodie is 🔥
Hawk-Owl looks a lot like a Talon reject
It's funny because when he was writing Marville, I think he thought he was Grant Morrison or Alam Moore or something
I actually didn't mind Ultimate Adventures, the art & the piss-take of it being the Ultimates Batman & Robin and that it was kinda played for laughs had a lot to do with why I liked it. One of my favorite shows! Moon knight themed episode please 😊
Love to see you guys hit 20K over here!! Keep the train goin’ hilarious as usual
Hey you should continue ultimate adventures pls
Fun fact, Chris Cross stole Jump from Everlast.
Finally!! Quality cleaning content 💙
Tiffany says Marville is basically fanfiction and I highly disagree. The thing about fanfiction is that people actually put more effort into them, and it comes from a place of love ultimately. This is not that at all.
Marville is spitefiction
The Ultimates appear later in Ultimate Adventures.
YES GAWD YESSSSS!!!! COMICPOP FOR 100 YEARS!!!
There ultimate jay and silent bob.
If ever there was a comic that belonged in the wrongbox, it’s Marville
Actually no, it belongs in the trash
Before even watching...... If Marville doesnt end up in the wrong box then what are we even doing.....
It came from there, according to the Back Issues episode!
@@TheRealZubes lol missed that part of the back issues I guess, thanks Tiffany!
New BEST of the WORST episode.... wait, that's not quite right
I remember liking Ultimate Adventures cause I was collecting all the Ultimate titles at that time. I think it got better but it has been awhile since I read it and honestly am not sure where that whole run is after ny
Move into myNew place a year ago.
Oh boy! A new GBU!😄
I need to rewatch the more recent GBUs. Is the Wrong Box not a thing anymore or did y'all just forget to talk about whether Marville deserved it?
In canon, Marville came FROM the Wrong Box: th-cam.com/video/ma8L8GyUSws/w-d-xo.html
It seemed like a Phil of the future X Captain Marvel crossover fan fiction.
I’ve only read the ultimate one. I was all in on the ultimate universe growing up. Any criticism lobbied at the ultimate universe is you just being old and not getting it😂
So that's an lcd display or an old tv on its side in the background?
It's a poster.
It occurred to me after the fact that it was probably just a green screen. At least I hope you didn't have a dedicated Marville poster. Lol

I find Ultimate Adventure art really good.
Scott's Tots
My question is if you pick Ultimate Adventures, are you picking the title Ultimate Adventures are the shitty Batman analog to stick around?
God marville is such an abomination to story telling its almost grimly fascinating
"One of these books did not actively hurt me every second I was reading it" is maybe the lowest bar we've ever had to clear.
We need more GBU!
Marville would have been more fun if they used Ike Turner instead of Ted Turner. And then put Ike on a pirate ship. 🧠
Ooh...have Tiffany critique the issue that's just unformatted words over crude art
Awesome! We need more GBU content
What if Robin was as asshole? What would you call Damien Wayne?
A mistake.
YESSS!
