AWESOME! I'm 55 and I love that I can learn things that I thought was impossible. Pulled the hard drive, now to buy an enclosure. Thanks so much. My Motto "Don't tell me what I can't do."

Man, thanks so much for this video. $125 quoted from the repair shop to transfer data...but it only cost me $10.80 for the part to recover my own files. Seriously a life saver!

This was extremely helpful. I have had an old laptop that hasn't worked for at least 7 years, and I couldn't throw it away because I knew I could save the storage. I never got around to it until today, maybe I would of if i'd known it was this simple. Thank you!

Amazing, if there is a better word, I could very well use it here, to describe the Benignity of the Presenter. Though the content is for 8 mins, his presentation, his voice tempo, and more so his skill, all are admirably highly commendable. As Shakespeare once said, "I have nothing to say, just, Thank you, Thank you", Thank you.

I just run across your video. I have two hard drives that I have held onto for several years. They both have stuff I need off them, including some school stuff. One hard drive came out of my laptop, it was dropped in the floor. Would not work after that. The other is a external hard drive that has lots of music and backups on it from other computers. I'm thinking that others coming and going from home messed it up. However, I have taken them to be fixed or get my info off only to be told they could not do so. One place informed me there was nothing on the external one, but we both know that once info goes on it is always there somewhere. I think with your help I could build the computer I have always wanted. The hard drive from laptop was a Toshiba, external was My pass port. It was a bigger box type one, came from Best Buy in 2009. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for the video, RandomAZdude. I just checked your channel and did not see any more computer videos, so I cam e back here to see if you or anyone possibly watching this video in 2023 can answer a question about this procedure.
This is April of 2023, it looks like this video was from about 10 years ago, and obviously computers and operating systems have changed since this was posted. Your video is very good except for one observation and that is that it seems to me you opened the harddrive and did this on top of a carpet looking surface which may very well cause static that can damage the drive's data. Anything that can create static or magnetic field can wipe or damage data.

To Brittany, there is no way to really know what viruses you have. I would definitely have a solid antivirus installed in your new computer. A free one I use is Microsoft essentials. Another option is extracting the data from a public computer. It sounds like a irresponsible suggestion but most public libraries have systems that wipe out all data installed after restarting.

Aloha🌺I have a Vaio as well. It has a broken screen so I had to buy a new monitor so I could still access all my music (25,000 songs) and other stuff. Now if files are on the computer itself, will a Vaio USB cable help me transfer all that junk on my new laptop?
