Agreed. Folks who don't believe this could happen just don't understand the beginning of Magic. It was new for *everyone* involved; players, shops, manufacturers, designers, etc. Looking at this old product with today's mindset sets you up to believe conspiracy theories when in reality, a lotta these folks were just doin' the best they could and makin' the rules up as they went.
I love your dedication for the community. Didn't openboosters also pull one like this? Or was it just the infamous island rare?

As a magic player I typically only come for magic Mondays tbh
I actually bought my first pack of magic cards because of this .... I do not recommend. I got a collectors booster and got an open pack and every single holographic card is curved like crazy.
Wish I stayed living vicariously 😢 a Lil 'bit of the MAGIC is gone now.

What happened?
Your solution is 100% fair. Yes errors like this can happen, I saw when Open boosters pulled a land in the rare slot, and it was mapped out beforehand that it was a possibility. The 58 people who would get a non-rare, nothing changes for them. The 2 who get a rare slot, unfortunately don’t get a shot at glory, but… it could well have been a crappy rare. More than likely so.
That's a different situation, there actually was an Island printed on the rare sheet in beta so it would get collated with other rares. This is quite a bit more unlucky than that but Wubby is going far above and beyond what anyone else would do and frankly far and above what he needed to do but this is why he's the best out there.
Island was printed in the rare slot. I saw the common, uncommon and rare island pack opening too. But it’s common knowledge island was printed as a rare in ABU

Yeah, this can totally happen. It literally happened right in front of me with Open Boosters, Rudy and Tavis one time years ago in Rudy's store. That opening is one of Rudy's most popular videos.
Yeah I've seen it happen to them in their vids before too, and they were their own source, having sat on them for decades themselves... so there was no funny business involved for certain. I mean, why would they scam themselves lol.
The integrity of this whole situation is amazing. Nice job handling this. This is one of the many reasons I enjoy this channel

I have grown to love your content and after the end of this video I have mad respect for you brother. You took the time to utilize your contacts to ensure your people were no cheated. You are a stand up guy who is very entertaining and cant wait to watch the next unboxing its been a blast to see you do what my 10 year old ass was doing while having cheeto dust fingers on bran new Alpha packs since back then they were just cards. I still have my Alpha Rock Hydra I need to get graded not sure why that is the only Alpha I kept all these years but hell might as well get that thing checked out.
I mean this video only makes me feel like Wubby's openings are worth buying into. No idea why anybody would really take issue with this solution. That box luck was also sooooo insanely good but so damn bad at the same time. Crazy how old magic can be at times.

We can't really blame them too harshly. it would have cost an obsene amount to go back and print a small run of new sheets, and back then they were a very small hope and prayer type company with little capital.

I recommend checking out the book Generation Decks, which is about the history of magic. For those early sets, they were putting their own money on the line, but they knew they had a hit. Alpha's printing was supposed to last the whole first year, but GenCon caused such a surge of interest in Magic that instead of lasting a year, it sold out in a week. So I'm not surprised that in the chaos that was getting Beta out the door almost immediately after Alpha that a mistake like this could happen. Also remember, this is the first time that this type of pack randomization happened. There were Baseball cards and stuff like that, but they didn't need the controlled randomness that Magic did to be a playable Starter Deck. Again, highly recommend checking out that book, it's been super interesting and has gotten me into early sets so much more now that I know how scrappy it all was.
It is the reason that there were god packs. Just bad luck on this one.

That's incredibly awesome of you to do this. Its a terrible situations and only one person can be blamed. (WOTC) I was skeptical with how you were going to precede but the deal you gave them was fantastic. If I had bought in I would be so relieved with how you handled it.

You all had access to the good channels, we had YTV instead of cartoon network and nickelodean and we had family instead of disney, they carried a lot of the same shows but also a lot of other trash, that's just a Canadian difference though partly because of Can con laws and partly because of licensing.

Otherwise: Pulling that Sol Ring, L-elves, Dark Ritual and B O L T is so awesome. Among the most iconic cards ever printed; the fact they are still in actively used decks today is astounding when you consider the age of the game.

I pulled a beta started like this back in the day. Also pulled a bumch of rived starters that all the commons were replaced with uncommons. As soon as I realized I went back to Target and grab the rest. This was a huge windfall for teenage me because Serra Angel, Sengir amp and Sol Ring were great hits back then.
Wubbys passion and care he not only holds for this game but for the community of people that participate in it with him is the exact reason his name should be up there when we talk about the faces of Magic. I wholeheartedly believe he’ll get his own secret lair one day.
I know when it takes 2 months to get a WMM video then some shit went down. What a fucking ride this was.

@@mfdoom1898 Before Metazoo I didn't care about any card games. Though in the mean time I have gotten into playing Pokemon, but I don't collect. My wife and daughter do. I do use their bulk to build decks though. That being said, I always find it strange when people don't just let people like what they like. Such an odd response.

My very first Starter deck (4th edition) was a god deck. It contained no uncommons, but all rares in the uncommon slots. This happened for years in Magics infancy.

Some starter decks had all rares in their uncommon slots, some had no rares at all. Definitely legit starter deck. On the flipside you could of gotten all rares, that would of been crazy.
I think the fact that he's offering not only a refund, but a free buy-in to the next one, is more than generous. Crazy that this can happen but you have to remember that it's only the second print run of magic. No product is free from defects.

The packing at the time was so random , There were also starters with rares instead of uncommons . I myself bought Ice Age boosters that had 4 rares and no uncommons ( I started just after Tempest release )
