@@danielvillagrana7344 As far as academy training goes, it was probably on par with just about every other academy in the country. I do think some are better that others but my academy experience was really good. They really prepared you academically and with practical hands on experience using scenarios. That was in Indiana when I worked for a major state university. Working for the university was unique given the type of environment and the calls that you would respond to. On going in-service training was a priority and I can't think of a year when I ever had less than 40 hours of training, and in Indiana you're only required to do a minimum of 24 hours of training a year. Not only that I was an instructor, and so I taught classes with my agency and at two of the police academies in the state. Now I work for a city in northwest Mississippi and things are drastically different. The state academy has poor facilities and focuses more of their time on physical fitness that academics. On top of that my agency appears to care very little on any practical in-service training. They are not even scheduling us for mandatory state training which is sad. Overall it really depends on what state you're in and who you work for. I love being a cop but it's hard to do your job when you have a hand tied behind your back.
I hope this answers some of your questions, if you have more fell free to send them my way.

Police have discretion when it comes to that because they have to get in and out of vehicles quickly at times and it can get tangled in the gear that is worn. That's why it's their discretion if they want to wear it or not
