I'd agree. I just want some of the new features, like the safety or magazine guide, on a "more legal" shockwave/full-size shotgun. I'm not a fan of the single piece barrel, tho, I feel like a strength of using a shotgun is the adaptability of the platform, and non-swappable chokes doesn't play well with that MO.
It sounds like a lot more useful than what PTR is doing by sawing down Mossberg 88s. The breaching choke device is also a good touch since it digs into wood well, I've nicked a good piece of my door once with mine 😂.
I had an idea for a breacher variant of the Mossberg 590M a few months ago. I had the idea because I'd seen several videos of people who served in the US military bemoaning the replacement of the Mossberg 590 with the M26. A modified 590M seemed like the obvious solution. Little did I know, Mossberg had been working on that exact thing for years. I'm still surprised it wasn't at the request of the US military, though.
The picatinny trail is for the light/laser. Flashlight is extremely important on a breaching shotgun. On a gun that small the only place you can put it is on top of the receiver. If you put it on the barrel it will get in the way against the door. No point in putting sites on such a short shotgun.

Compared to all the breaching kit that is commonly used in military and SWAT (halligan bars, bolt cutters, breaching charges, sledgehammers, breaching rams, power saws, even modded jaws of life for certain units), the common pump-action breaching shotgun, even this one, is on the low end of bulk.
This is similar to what I'm currently doing to my 590M: I have a 14" front end, Magpul furniture, and I'm planning a ghost ring/red dot set up and getting it threaded for Remchokes.

As an owner of Shockwaves and a Compact Cruiser I can tell you they may think they want that pistol grip but… The Compact Cruiser comes with the pistol grip. And it’s a wrist twister. Not pleasant to shoot. So having had experience with the Shockwave switched the Cruiser to a bird head which I highly modified. Shortened it so it was as long as the pistol grip protruded. Reduced the diameter for better grip with gloves on easier to get your hand around. Then retextured with stippling. Much better than the pistol grip. Reduced and textured the Shockwaves grips as well. The 590 barrel is so beefy there is plenty metal to thread the outside of the end of the barrel. And had it threaded for same thread pitch as the KSG. Now there is companies that make steel and aluminum muzzle breaks. I chose steel. But wait! There’s more! By doing this it allowed me to utilize the Silencerco KSG adapter for the Salvo 12 and you have a package on a Shockwave 38” long Suppressed 12 ga.

If that takes the existing 10, 15, 20 rd mags... it raises the bar farther. I like the birdshead version...the magazine frame addition to aid in loading the mag should be on both. That is very nice add.
FYI when breaching, the point man is carrying this weapon. Try not to break theirs when they come in, so you have one also. I suggest concussion charges when “stacking doors”. Semper fi. My MOUT is bigger than theirs.
+1 for the 590M. I have one and while the mags could use some weight reduction they're definitely rugged and reliable. It fixes the shotgun two main weaknesses: low capacity and slow reload. I'm glad to see it's still being developed so the magazine costs may come down. That's the second biggest downside to the mags, they're a fortune.
I question the desire for a box magazine, but their customer knows what they want. My point of reference is a green beret, if the speculation on this being for the _other_ green berets then they have their own proceedures.
The Mossberg Shockwave is pretty small and holds 5+1, requires no modification and costs $400. Then the pistol grip shotguns have been around forever and should also work just fine and are cheap too. Cool little touches on those two though
That is a very cool Breacher with a pistol grip with the AR type of safety selector is a real nice looking weapon that I hope Mossberg makes available for civilians sales . It is nice that the Mossberg is using the same Breacher muzzle device that they use in their other Breacher model which I own the 18.5 inch barrel model.
When are we going to design a mag fed shotgun from the ground up instead of having a vestigial empty steel mag tube and thick endcap still attached? We could lower the bore axis, better prevent touching a potentially hot barrel, and lighten it as implied, as well as reduce size for stowage and all.
My appreciation is that you would only get to breach 3 doors with a full mag and one in the tube if you have to hit 2 hinges, and IIRC, breachers usually have the tube empty for safety reasons until they hit a door. So 2 doors with hinges or 5 for locking mechanisms (door knobs/deadbolts). Not a lot, which is why this makes so much sense.

I'd drive the 35 minutes down to North Haven to purchase one of those breacher barrels if it'd fit on the 590A1 AOW. It's the one and only issue I have with that gun. One _could_ fall off the loading dock, Mossberg employee...

It’s a cool development. Although the mag seems excessively big and bulky while only providing two additional rounds over traditional tube feeding.
The mag will probably have comparability with their larger 12ga shotgun mags
It's also faster to reload.
Breachers usually have their mag tubes empty until they are about to breach for safety so this may be better and more efficient

I doubt you're shooting off door locks and latches at weird angles with your shotguns. A birdshead grip would make that real difficult.
