I had an idea for a breacher variant of the Mossberg 590M a few months ago. I had the idea because I'd seen several videos of people who served in the US military bemoaning the replacement of the Mossberg 590 with the M26. A modified 590M seemed like the obvious solution. Little did I know, Mossberg had been working on that exact thing for years. I'm still surprised it wasn't at the request of the US military, though.
The picatinny trail is for the light/laser. Flashlight is extremely important on a breaching shotgun. On a gun that small the only place you can put it is on top of the receiver. If you put it on the barrel it will get in the way against the door. No point in putting sites on such a short shotgun.
This is similar to what I'm currently doing to my 590M: I have a 14" front end, Magpul furniture, and I'm planning a ghost ring/red dot set up and getting it threaded for Remchokes.
As an owner of Shockwaves and a Compact Cruiser I can tell you they may think they want that pistol grip but… The Compact Cruiser comes with the pistol grip. And it’s a wrist twister. Not pleasant to shoot. So having had experience with the Shockwave switched the Cruiser to a bird head which I highly modified. Shortened it so it was as long as the pistol grip protruded. Reduced the diameter for better grip with gloves on easier to get your hand around. Then retextured with stippling. Much better than the pistol grip. Reduced and textured the Shockwaves grips as well. The 590 barrel is so beefy there is plenty metal to thread the outside of the end of the barrel. And had it threaded for same thread pitch as the KSG. Now there is companies that make steel and aluminum muzzle breaks. I chose steel. But wait! There’s more! By doing this it allowed me to utilize the Silencerco KSG adapter for the Salvo 12 and you have a package on a Shockwave 38” long Suppressed 12 ga.

@@AJ-xc4nm Like removing normal stock from a shotgun will magically transform it to any other weapon. There are shitloads of things which doesnt make sense for relatively normal mind.

My appreciation is that you would only get to breach 3 doors with a full mag and one in the tube if you have to hit 2 hinges, and IIRC, breachers usually have the tube empty for safety reasons until they hit a door. So 2 doors with hinges or 5 for locking mechanisms (door knobs/deadbolts). Not a lot, which is why this makes so much sense.
+1 for the 590M. I have one and while the mags could use some weight reduction they're definitely rugged and reliable. It fixes the shotgun two main weaknesses: low capacity and slow reload. I'm glad to see it's still being developed so the magazine costs may come down. That's the second biggest downside to the mags, they're a fortune.
