I totally agree that you don't need to buy a ton of storage containers. A lot of times my clients already have things on hand that work. Typically my jars can hold one package of the given item. I also have a bin with "back stock" behind the jars. A lot of the items I buy, I have memorized the instructions, but if not I will put a sticky label on the back with the instructions, like I just hand write it out. I love using Mason jars, they are such a cost effective way to store food! You did such a great job!!😊🙌✨
I enjoyed the transformation my friend. It turn out lovely. Am not a professional in organizing things but I try my best to organize it. I put the remaining stuff in a bin. Great idea and new here
I use the exact same mason jars. I feel like they perform and look nicely. The left over amount for a lot of items are annoying. It's not a perfect system by any means but because I usually only have a little left over I leave that out for my husband to cook with so we use it up quickly. Also I use a wide mouth canning funnel to help avoid mess when I'm pouring items into the mason jar. I also use a spice drawer where I lay spices flat (they have plastic organizers that you can use if your spices are slipping around). It makes them so much easier to see and use.
That’s awesome! Yeah I think they look nice too! And the canning funnel is a great idea. Ah I wish I had drawer space for my spices! That’s how I stored mine in our last place, and I really liked it!
Hi Lauryn, here catching up!! Your pantry looks great 🙌 I found the same thing when trying to use pretty containers... they’re too small! I just try to use the extra first so it can be as pretty as possible lol. It’s a hard balance functionality and aesthetic sometimes 😂
Hi Maddie!! Thank you so much! I’m still so torn about it too. The containers create an extra step, and the leftovers can just create more clutter, but it looks so nice! Haha the struggle is real. 😅
Great job! Just one suggestion: the potatoes and onions should be stored next to each other, if at all possible, because they give off gases that make the other go bad faster
What to do with leftover ingredients that don’t fit into their new container? I have a solution that works for me my ADHD brain that might work for you! I keep an area of my pantry that houses all my “backups” of items that are packed tightly in a large bin. The rule is: 2 is 1, and 1 is none. If I have at least two of an item I buy regularly, and then use up the first, I don’t ever run out of an item. I simply take the new item, empty it into the nice container, then take the empty box and put it on my countertop as a reminder to add it to my grocery list. This system works wonders for me. Ok, back to the issue you had where there was only a little bit of pasta left in the original box. I won’t empty my 2nd (or backup) box into the new container until I’ve completely used up what’s in the first so as to keep my system working. If I’m making a meal and don’t have enough pasta in the nice container, that’s when I open the second box and initiate my system. This way I never have small portions in boxes tucked away where I can’t see how much I actually have left. If I know I have a full box left, I can better manage. So I make it a point to select containers that fit a full size of whatever food item I regularly buy so as not to have spill over. I use this backups system for all kinds of things, like toiletries, cleaning supplies, and everything else really. :)
