Then again the show always showed him with a sympathetic side, like when they raided an English village and he went into a house with a sick old man and didn't harm him, just refilled his water cup.

I don't agree, not completely. Yes, she always knew she would be married off to someone her father chooses for political reasons, maybe to a stranger. But it was probably expected that the man would be an ally of her father, maybe a neighbour of Frankia, a Christian king or prince. The problem is that she was forced to marry a PAGAN, a barbarian, the enemy, someone she saw as the antichrist! That explains her behaviour in these scenes. Of course she was scared. She saw nothing of the Vikings, knew nothing of the Vikings but them destroying her country and killing her people with no reason. Probably she thought him like an animal, less civilised than them, knowing nothing of their world and God, not speaking the same language. Once it changed, she was able to see him differently.
I'm not surprised that she doesn't like it, that's to be expected. The problem is the total hysteria. That makes no sense for someone with her upbringing. Gisla started off as a real brat towards Rollo. Despite his reputation as a viking he wasn't gonna hurt nor force himself on her if she didn't want him to. Their relationship is the perfect example of a modern woman forced to marry an average nice guy only to find out later on that the nice guy is extremely dangerous and would protect her at the cost of his own life if need be.
Gisela think that she can attack Rollo with an little knife. Rollo. Rollo the viking. Brother of Ragnar Lothbrock. Gisela that was a very very funny joke, well Rollo laugh too :D
@@ruthferreyraordonez3409 eh, that's a very hard question: obviously Lagertha was his first love (and you never forget your first love), but in the end she chose his brother over him and that left him devastated, and in s1 we see Rollo as a "beast", who lusts after his brother's wife, a drunken man and who in the end rebelled against Ragnar, because he had wanted what did not belong to him. But then he recognized his mistakes and in s2 we seem him redeeming himself, and therefore he let go of his insane passion for the shieldmaiden and followed Ragnar loyally everywhere. Stil, deep inside, he wanted something more for himself, but moreover, he wanted someone who would love and embrace him and only him, and not because he was Ragnar's brother and his relationships were in some way always touched by his younger brother (see his speech to the seer in s3e5: _Ragnar was always chosen over me. By my father. By my mother... then, by Lagertha...I'm useless, feckless, hollowed out by failed ambitions, by failed loves_ ). And this love not touched by Ragnar was indeed Gisla: do not forget that the seer prophetized that the princess would not only crown but also marry the bear, so that girl was who was promised to him to bring power, successful ambitions, but mainly, affection, acceptation...and love above all. So I think that Rollo will always have a soft spot for Lagertha, but Gisla is the one he loves the most (I *do not* consider what Rollo did in s5a: that was a bullsh*t for many aspects, not only in regards of Lagertha). Thank you for making me this interesting question: please, let me know what you think instead; I really want to know your point of view^^
@@cristinademartini1284 thanks for answering me. I read you in several comments and it shows that you love the story of Gisla and Rollo as much as I do. I agree with you, I think that Rollo loved Gisla infinitely more than Lagertha and I will explain why. He suffered a lot because his parents had always despised him, preferring Ragnar, and that is a very painful trauma for anyone so he coveted everything that Ragnar had since in that everything he unconsciously projected the love that his parents had denied him; if Ragnar was famous he also wanted to be, if Ragnar had a wife he wanted "just" the same woman, if Ragnar was given mint candies he wanted them too whether he liked them or not. I think that although he loved Lagertha, what he felt most towards her was an amoral and morbid attraction for being his brother's wife, one more whim. On the other hand, with Gisla it was totally different; When the soothsayer communicated his prophecy, his face changed, it was as if he had loved her before he met her. He found in her much more than a perfect wife, he found the treasure he dreamed of: Gisla was the reflection of the loving mother he never had, a beautiful maiden with a noble and brave spirit, power, wealth ... the angel of light in his dark life. And as you argued, for the first time Ragnar was not in the way, as if Gisla had been the elixir of all his sorrows. Rollo demonstrated his devotion to Gisla on numerous occasions, the first of which was when they were left alone in a room for the first time; Let's not forget that he had previously brutally raped a girl as the meanest of savages, but with her he behaved as the most tender and empathetic of all men, when he could have calmly stated to her: “Now you are my wife and I have the right to make you what you want". I also want to know what you think about my answer.
@@ruthferreyraordonez3409 It was a real pleasure^^. I am a GOT refugee and, although I had been hearing of "Vikings" before, I decided to watch it only lately: although it is historically very inaccurate, i truly enjoyed the first 4 seasons, but like you, the character who impressed me the most and whose development really captivated me was indeed Rollo (even though, in part it is because I've always loved the historical Rollo and the Normans); I totally agree with you about every word you have written: seeing his struggles, his pains, and how he tried to overcome those, and at the same time, watching him dreaming and searching for something which would truly belong to him, without the shadow of his younger and more famous brother upon him, was very intense and I was truly happy when he succeded in gaining them in Frankia and Normandy. There, we can truly see him (at least, in the first part of s4; the rest... let's not talk about it. It pratically _insulted_ his development and his real story imho) interacting with a different world, a different faith he had mocked in the past with his "baptize" in s1, with different people who are not related to Ragnar, whom instead they despise and want to share nothing with the Norse king who had deceived them, and then finally belonging to someone and someone who would love him and belong to him, and not his brother. He has finally found his place, his destiny and his family (Gisla, their children and emperor Charles), Thank you for sharing your pov with me on this matter! And, if I may ask you, what was your impression on the Frank monarch in this series? I simply loved him, for many and many reasons, even more than Ecbert. I really wish to hear your thoughts. Have a nice day^^
Historically, we are not sure about Gisla ! There are no records or events concerning her. At the time of Hrôlfr , she would have been about 5 or 6 years old... The 12th century chronicals and Icelandic sources mentioned that the ''couple'' was childless... ---- Hrôlfr ( Rollon , in French ) married Poppa of Bayeux and had a son ( William Longsword ) and a daughter , Gerloc . ------ The ''story'' with the Vikings TV Show is fictional, very good and well done story, however, it is for entertainment and to add drama and emotions for the viewers.

I really want to know when he turn into such a decent man. Is it because of the prophecy or she is queen of the country or she is his wife in their culture they respect wife more or he just impress by her because of the knife. Because before seeing the knife, he try to kiss her
Vikings were quite respectful to their wives and other female Vikings. For example, rape was considered a high offense. Now, were they respectful to all women, no. It is very likely they had sex slaves. But they were respectful to their wives and other women of their culture
Such a drama queen! "I want to die" Pulls a dagger on Rollo, Rollo ignores her and go to sleep. "How dare you!" And now she's upset because he's not gonna touch her!
Honestly, I hate this scene. They had built up Gisla as a strong, intelligent character. Now, in one scene, they break it down by having her behave like a complete lunatic. The wedding night was ridiculous enough. But to have her start mocking her husband in public? That would also undermine her own status. Incidentally, the punishment for a woman killing her husband was being burned alive at the stake. Just to give you an idea of how idiotic her waving that knife is.
She believed that he was going to harm her because of the vikings' reputation of brutal and violent (and from her perspective, since what they did to her people with treachery, i'd guess she had a point). You are right about disrespecting her husband, but keep in mind that she was obliged by her own father to marry the man who slaughtered the soldiers who were defending their city before their very eyes and perhaps she suspected it was all an act from Rollo with his brother to raid Paris once again. Therefore her reactions are totally plausible here, unlike in s4b

@@kimberlyh.1090Wouldnt brienne be the bear in that case? Especially since jaime looks so similar to his sister
Oh yeah. They were definitely made for each other😂😏
For the one who said we're they all going to watch.Yes either they watched or put down the white cloth the one girl held up to Rollo that he pushed away. Then made them leave they had to know the marriage was consumated.Sometimes someone waited at the door and when it was over the groom would hand the cloth out and it would be shown to waiting people to show she was a virgin and that the act was done.
is anyone gonna talk about rollo’s reaction when she spit in that mans face lmao
Yep. He was like: "I'm liking my wife more and more!" XD!
His face says .. kink unlocked !!!
if I was married to a princess unwillingly I'd be in fury but at the same time I'd feel so sorry for her for all this political stuff.
it's not about Rollo .. he raped women ... and here he felt sorry for her ... funny
Didn't he marry her willingly? He made a deal with her father. He was pretty happy, he went from raping women in season 1 to living in a castle beside a princess.
The way he laughs with the blade on his throat is so painful. Its such a small moment but in this instance, something about him changed from my perspective as a viewer. I didn't know which direction they were going with the two but I am so glad about the way it turned out in the end.
That hair not a good look for Rollo

💩💩
"You're tickling me, go to sleep" lmaoo
Gisla spits at Roland: "Arsehole! Get off of me!"
Rollo at 0:14 : ❤^❤ that's my wife🥰!
Seriously, even the frank bishop behind him looks impressed at her fierceness and spirit XD!
Having the knights straight up carry her in like that is so funny to me. What is the story there? did she try and make a bolt for it? did she simple stand still and refuse to move even when being dragged. I want to see that scene.
3:00 that heart breaking moment when u realised uv just been friend zoned
Well he made her laugh that’s certainly something
And she even _smiled_ briefly before doing that, which implied thay she liked how he looked like and appreciated his trying to adapt himself to their customs.
Then... well, _Gisla is Gisla_ 😂!

Old french 😍😍
That has not much to do with old french, it sounds like a mix of latine and German
@@carolinemarchand4743 Ah ok I did not know that. 😉
@@carolinemarchand4743 ( what you meant to say is that it sounds like very late Frankish, a mix of premodern heavily Latinized French and some German as opposed to this th-cam.com/video/WKLNBVzlu20/w-d-xo.html and not as much the aspects of this th-cam.com/video/rD--OdhdJfg/w-d-xo.html you probably had in mind when making this comment )

I mean, a mix between latin and german is basically what french is. Late gallo-roman vulgar latin with strong frankish influence. Gramatically the french spoke in this show is ok, but I'm not sure if it sounded like this, probably not
Sooo...if he hadn't kicked those people out, would they have watched them do it? I know that was kind of a practice for royals, but sheesh lol
Yes, they watched to confirm the consummation of the marriage.
2:07 the way he purposely keeps his leg over her lap and she has to push it off. This is loving couple behavior.
They're so cute
i wish i could fall asleep on command like rollo
Gisla started off as a real brat towards Rollo. Despite his reputation as a viking he wasn't gonna hurt nor force himself on her if she didn't want him to.
Their relationship is the perfect example of a modern woman forced to marry an average nice guy only to find out later on that the nice guy is extremely dangerous and would protect her at the cost of his own life if need be.
You KNOW he pulls out the Viking language.....later on in their marriage....lmao.
Hail Rollo!! Founder of the Normand dinasty and ancestor of Queen Elizabeth
Let's be honest now, no woman in her right mind would reject Rollo 😂
I will. I like chocolate
Gisela think that she can attack Rollo with an little knife. Rollo. Rollo the viking. Brother of Ragnar Lothbrock. Gisela that was a very very funny joke, well Rollo laugh too :D
He didn't only laugh, but also admired her more and more. Look how proud and amazed is his look at her after his laugh
@@cristinademartini1284 And who did Rollo love the most for you? To Gisla or to Lagertha?

How do you make these video/clips. Is there a website or something. Do you download the episode then cut out the clips you want to post? I want to do the same for this show and many other but dont know how.💚
And then there's story of the Twilight.. :o)
I really want to know when he turn into such a decent man. Is it because of the prophecy or she is queen of the country or she is his wife in their culture they respect wife more or he just impress by her because of the knife. Because before seeing the knife, he try to kiss her
Vikings and other Scandinavians were known to respect women more than many other cultures. In fact, it's very interesting. You should go check it out.
Vikings were quite respectful to their wives and other female Vikings. For example, rape was considered a high offense. Now, were they respectful to all women, no. It is very likely they had sex slaves. But they were respectful to their wives and other women of their culture
Some girls can easily get man Handeled and she was just afraid of him even when she puled out the nife
Rollo. A one's proud brave warrior. Feared above all. Now. A castrated bear. Simping. Two a woman.
Such a drama queen!
"I want to die"
Pulls a dagger on Rollo, Rollo ignores her and go to sleep.
"How dare you!"
And now she's upset because he's not gonna touch her!
He kind of looks like Khal Drogo from Game Of Thrones
The Old French sounds like a mixture of German and French.
and (Vulgar) Latin as well. Latin is the root of all the Neolatine languages.
tsundere
All these girls compairing themselves with the queen secretly want to be at her place😂
Rollo shouldn't had his hair cut
Does anyone understand why they married in the first place? It made no sense to me, even after watching all the episode up to that point and beyond.
Her father made an alliance with Rollo and the alliance was sealed by their marriage.
