Great show as usual Mark. Not forgetting Arnold shwazennger bought one of the last TX4s “ And Grace Kelly princes of Monaco bought a London Austin taxi Fx3 after filming in London , saying it was her best car And great for taking the kids to school , it’s in a museum now …. Great to see the Legend Georgie Jackson. Last of the old time London Garage proprietors . 👍 George loves talking Turkey. Lol.
You can license old TX4’s in other parts of the country. Bought a load from Chris Morris in Croydon and got them licensed elsewhere. So can still be used as a taxi.
I’d buy it if I’d had £800 spare rather than spend money on a Skoda Octavia great vehicles my kids would love travelling around Norwich city and surrounding villages. seriously considering the trip to London to pick one up myself great review mark just seen the mobile coffee shop great stuff
@@Markstaxidiaries well I won’t be driving my Skoda anymore as someone decided they didn’t like my front end so if you guys want to donate me a tx4 or similar would very much appreciate it as the guy who made the accident possible drove off before any details were exchange my insurance is done!
The euro 6 TX4 still retains its fifteen years as a licensed London taxi but I still feel that any age limit on vehicles that cost the amount they do is nothing more than an absolute disgrace. Apart from anything else why does the TXE have a fifteen year age limit (1) It is a hybrid taxi and (2) The body is made from aluminium so it can't rust.... so what gives!!!
I drove a black cab as a cart -3- for 19 years. They arethe most comfortable "car" I have ever driven. Why cant car seats be made like cab driver seats.
I'm younger than you and have give my badge in something I never thought I'd ever do. London is a nightmare city to try and get about in. The expenses of the job will astound you and you will have to work very hard in a very stressful environment. Find something else to do to top up your pension. I have and am a lot less stressed, I work when I want and have zero expenses.
Great vehicle to drive excellent camps as well automatics brilliant been driving one all the various models for the last 40 odd years. Shame that you have to come off the road now.
Mark I drove black cabs for a few years, tx, tw200,Vito's etc but tx always my favourite. I'd love to buy a taxi like that but always worry about trying to find insurance as a private use car. Tried a few insurance companies and all said no. Any advice?
Ring cabsurance. My old TX2 costs £649 a year to imsure but the road tax is over £50 a month. Great for the job I now do after driving a cab for 39 years including a TXE which although is smooth and quiet is otherwise a very poor design.
On the motorway I get about 33mpg which is a lot more than when it was a cab in London. Then it was 24/5 ish overall including drive in and out. I think the TX4 is a little less. I'm not sure however as I never drove A TX4.
Not in London that's for sure even if the cab was delicensed at a younger age. A delicensing system in London was offered some time ago for varying amounts depending on the age of the cab but that offer is finished now. Having said that it still can't be used as a private hire vehicle in the MET regardless of age. Outside of London I would doubt it very much because of the shape and that it would be misconstrued as a licensed hackney carriage instead of a PHV.

Hi Mark, I discovered your Channel through Tom. I think your videos are great, so entertaining.
You can license old TX4’s in other parts of the country. Bought a load from Chris Morris in Croydon and got them licensed elsewhere. So can still be used as a taxi.
Your absolutely right! Thanks for watching
CAREFUL - the wrap may conceal black paintwork but I had one where the protective trim had been stripped off the doors with a paint scraper!
That’s a very good point something to be aware of!
Oh wow. What a great price. Now I want one. Great video Mark.
Didnt expect to see Tom here 😂
One of your best yet, Mark.
The owner looks like an east end gangster with his poker face
I'd love to own a Fairway. Or a TX4,.the bubbly style would look beautiful next to the Fiat Multipla.
Interesting, takes me back to when I was driving a taxi, learnt about your you tube channel from Tom the taxi driver, which I watch all the time.
Appreciate you watching glad you enjoyed it, Tom’s got a great channel!
Would be fun importing one to Sweden. I already have a phone booth in my garden that I restored 😊
Try eBay you may be able to pick one up there
If I could get it to the states. Would love it.
3 legends of the streets of London

@@markburrows173 That’s serious bad luck sorry to hear buddy, he was probably uninsured!
@@Markstaxidiaries that definitely came to mind. Police had no interest insurance is messed up out of pocket and no wheels.
The best cabs i drove when i was in the trade were the Fairway's and the TX1's, bullet proof engines
I heard great things about them!
You lucky bugger Tom!!

There is stil a Fairway working in liverpool G965 EHC it must be the oldest in the country
Would love a pic of that one!
Blimey, every TX4 i drove was a heap of rubbish. Had a timing belt snap on one and constant water leaks on a few
Too many pulleys belts and hoses, stuff just kept falling off mine!

They don’t make em like they used to! Thanks for watching
I am 65 the pension is bad ? Is it worth doing the badge just to top up my pension? Please help ? Life is a struggle
It’s always worth doing the badge. You will need to plan your time in the knowledge as it’s a big commitment

Agreed! Thanks for watching
2 days work 😂 £800 😊
It is difficult to get reasonable private insurance if you want to use it as a family car owning to the engine capacity ,I suppose .
Yes insurance is no problem at all, obviously a lot will depend on no claims bonus etc. Engine is a 2.4 diesel in the tx4 thanks for watching
@Mark Monroe
The 2.4 is in the TX2. The TX4 is a 2.5 litre which I believe the later ones were rated at 2.8. I sure I read that somewhere.
I drove an FX4 back in 85 , before Tommy was even born
Times have changed, more hybrid & ev’s on the road, plus no driver would want a big guzzler for a taxi car, especially this day and age
Agreed! Times have very much moved on, thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Mark, 👍 great video
Hi Mark where is that garage to bay black cab please?
Kings Cross taxis Camely street or try eBay
Mark I drove black cabs for a few years, tx, tw200,Vito's etc but tx always my favourite.

Basically it can be insured through all of the big brokers it’s just covered as a private use vehicle. Thanks for watching 👍

Cheeper than a fair 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'll buy it
I have interested in buying a used London black cab for private use, can I get the shop for sale.
You can try eBay ,, good luck
Out of the city, what would the MPG be like? I'm planning a European road trip next year and I was wondering if a TX4 might be worth a look. Thanks 🙂
Hi Julian! It’s 2.4 Diesel engine basically a transit engine., probably out in the open road 24 miles to the gallon, thanks for watching
TX2s and 1s have TRANSIT engines, some have Nissan. The TX4 have crysler engines
On the motorway I get about 33mpg which is a lot more than when it was a cab in London. Then it was 24/5 ish overall including drive in and out.

I drive a TX2
@@tonythorpe396 still in service?
GREAT to see George again.
I drove for him in the late 80s at Shirland mews.
A great bloke and a great guvnor.
Keep the viseos coming
George is legend the fairest guy in the taxi trade I’ve ever met. Thanks for watching
Mark. New to the channel. A great watch. Whats the name of the chap, im keen to purchased an old taxi. Best Mw.
His name is George Jackson working out of Kings Cross Taxis, great guy. If your really keen on getting hold of one I’ll email you his number. 👍
Greeting from Indonesia Mark , why was the price so low at 800pounds? Seems a steal?
Hi Paul! No easy to sell they are old diesel engines and can’t pass any green air regs. Thanks for watching!
Great video!!!
I’m AMERICA and I WANT ONE!!
is it possible to use older taxis as private hire?
This would all be up to the local licensing authority but I doubt it as the vehicles would probably be to old. Thanks for watching 😊

A lot of ‘extras’ come with an £800 taxi that will become apparent not so long after you’ve paid up and left the garage.
Happy driving 🥴.
Have you got Mr Jackson’s contact details as I’m interested in purchasing a old taxi.
George’s number is 07979 530041 he’s back in the garage on Monday as he’s on holiday at the moment. Thanks for watching!
That’s great Thankyou.....keep up the great content.
How many miles on it?
I think it was around 450,000
No relative of Bill Monroe?
No relation I’m afraid
Can you sell it for parts?
Sure no problem
Can I have 2 please
ok but is it difficult to insure?
Not at all, all down to the individual and no claims bonus
They are a bit pricey, but not difficult.
How fast are they on the motorway?
Flat out 70!
@@Markstaxidiaries faster than my old Land Rover then!!!
I cruise at around 60mph in my TX2, sometimes it creaps up to 65 but to get the best mpg 55/60 is its optimum speed.
Mark is like the educated taxi driver with old skool skill and tom is like the new cockney wannabe
Don't get a gas one!
£800 to buy but no insurer will go near you.
True
Nice...👍.
