The robotic vikram in the bgm was actually a bgm from Kamals old movie vikram which was released in 1986
In the old film its not a bgm its the theme song
Vikram is the lead character in the movie Vikram (1986) by Kamalhasan. That movie is also part of this shared universe. Fun fact about Vikram movie is, Both Vikram 1 and Top Gun came out in 1986 and their sequel came out this year

What Kamal (Vikram) and Cruise (Top Gun) are doing at the age of 67 and 59 respectively to entertain us is such an inspiration. Kamal comes back during a time when big budget Tamil movies have become increasingly stale, with stars pushing their agendas into movies, playing it safe and bending the director's vision to make sure their stardom is glorified, and he does an out and out action flick with so much energy and completely submits himself to what the director writes by sharing a huge amount screen space with other actors showing respect to their skills and talents, this is really mind-boggling. How he has adapted to the demands of different generations of varied demography within India is something I will never fully comprehend. Tom Cruise is running, jumping, flying in and out of planes, and does many more wild things that were dizzying to even watch on screen, most people less than half his age won't be able to even do the run as well as he does, he shows utmost dedication in what he wants to achieve. These are the people that show you how you should dedicate yourself to become better and never stop demanding more from yourself, no matter what you do in your life.
Do I need to watch Vikram 1986 to watch this movie?..
@@rahulkalita7935 I guess no need for that. The director(Lokesh Kanagaraj) just took the character from Vikram (1986) and based on that character he wrote a story of Vikram(2022). But I would recommend you to watch Kaidhi ( which was also directed by the same director) to enjoy some character references.

On hearing the sound I literally wanted to ran out of Theatre watching KGF 2, but sound engineering in Vikram which has far more action scenes and background score from Anirudh is excellent, felt thumping effect on my seat on the action scenes.....

By the way Karthi that acted in Kaithi is Suriya's brother that acts in Vikram. And guess what!!! Word is out that Vikram 3 is going to have Kamal Suriya and Karthi. CANT WAIT. As a kamal hassan fan i absolutely loved Vikram. This story can easily be adapted in hollywood with someone like Stallone or schwarzenegger or any of the OG 90s action stars. The same cannot be done with KGF 2. KGF 2 was more an ode to 70s bollywood amitabh bachan's angry young man action films with the typical mother sentiments(which was a recurring trope). Loki is a 90s kid who grew up watching 90s hollywood action films and kamal hassan films (basically worships him). I think that's why you enjoyed this film more.
There is no need adapt the film as Vikram is already a huge copy of hollywood and chinese films.

Dasaavatharam, Kochadayaan, ghajini, gentleman, Indian, aalavandhan, shivaji, endhiran, jeans, I, guru, anniyan n many many more - these were the biggest budget, first of its kind, highly experimental, highest grossing movies of their era, the seeds that tamil cinema kept sowing for decades n decades to open avenues for movies like bahubali and RRR to be made. If adjusted for inflation and the spike in people’s spending potential, these movies probably made wayyyyyy more money during their times than what RRR or KGF made now.

Vikram is the best indian film of 2022 for me. It is so good in terms of storyline, visuals, bgm, writing and acting performances. It had everything- romance, action, thriller, comedy, mystery, sentiments and twists. I hope it gets even more recognition in other parts of india.

This is an honest tribute from Lokesh a fan boy who directed his idol. But he made his stamp by bringing every star performers into his world and treated the script with absolute honesty and did justice for this genre.
His cinematic brilliance was just meticulous in making this film an engaging one right from beginning to end.. Yes it has minor flaws and things to point out.
I felt very emotional being a big fan of Kamal sir and watching him on screen in a movie like this just lit up 🔥 The actors whomever being big or small, has given their best to make it more engaging.
Overall, Lokesh Kanagaraj is becoming a new age cinematic genius with his way of screenplay and narration.. This was his authentic best and its great he was able to show his best with his Godfather on board. 🔥👏🙌👌❤️

Just finished watching KGF and these guys were right. I don't even know how KGF 2 was a hit, no story no great action , over acting . Vikram is so much better and one of the best Indian action movie ever made

I am from Bengal , fan of AA since Aarya 2 & mostly enjoy Telugu films mostly but I would like to keep Vikram over RRR & KGF 2 .

Agree with your review. Absolutely fun to watch. With respect to the high decibel levels, I think it might have been the theatre. We watched it in a theatre in Bangalore, India and the decibel levels were fine. On the contrary I had an issue with the decibel levels for RRR when we watched it in the same theatre.
Another cool moment was the playing of a spanish song in a Tamil wedding. Unexpected but so much fun. The nanny/household help fight scene was ridiculously original and entertaining. And yes I had the same gripe with the back stabbing in both Kaithi and this movie. That wasn’t believable at all. But the music just elevates the entire movie. I believe the entire background score will be released soon. So the background scores for Kaithi and Master (another lokesh kanagaraj/Anirudh movie) were released on Apple Music about a month after the respective movie was released. Expect the same with this one.

Kamal, Fafa, Sethupathi nd Surya all were given equal importance nd very well directed by Lokesh. Mindblowing BGM by Anirudh. Fight scenes r awesome. Interval bang nd climax r very good. Watched Night show nd it was housefull all over in Bangalore. Good comeback by Ulaga Nayakan, Nata Thilakam Kamal Sir 🙏 Waiting for next part ⏳
Viewers should watch Kamal's old Vikram nd Karthi's Kaidhi to understand this sequal 😇

You mean if Kamal interrupted this vikram movie may not good? Damn, Vikram character is introduced and narrated by Kamal to Lokesh. And Lokesh used that fundamental character to develop Vikram story. The Ghost character was supposed to shoot for original movie of Kamal Vikram in 90s but due to budget cap, the director told Kamal to drop the story and now it has been refurbished to Lokesh and by Lokesh.

Actually, Lokesh did not approach Kamalhaasan with the script of Vikram. He wrote something else diff and approached. Kamal liked it, but while Lokesh was talking to Kamla informally about what ideas he had for future films, Kamal was the one who mentioned about creating a new universe and bringing the character of Vikram into it. Lokesh was very excited and asked Kamal if he can develop a script around it and Kamal obliged. Thats how Vikram was born. So... this whole film germinated from the Superstar!

Movie had it's own flaws but the positive energy from audience make it really good experience. Watched it 3 times already in three different states with different set of friends.
Edit - So the editor of the film told that they can even release a director's cut with the running time of 4 hours. I'll buy/rent for sure when I get chance!

True, there were flaws, wished they spent more screen time with Vikram and sethupathy, instead of the song, his son's death could have been emphasised more. TINA and the other undercover agents were giving out information about VIKRAM during Fahad fasil undercover interrogation. Was he moving the coin with Fahad?

These all made the screenplay interesting. If Loki setup later that Vikram wanted to bring Amar under him earlier then those issues would have been ironed out.

RRR to me. Vikram is also incredible. But I got enjoyed more by RRR.
Indeed kgf was fantastic but if we compare Vikram with KGF-II , Vikram would be easily beat KGF-II, since the KGF-II bgm & Yash presence that's what drived that movie but otherwise that's nothing more into it.But in Vikram everything is upto the point, the presence of every actors, dialogues and the way it produced, gruesome kills and the unpredictable story it's everything top notch. If the Vikram movie had got the same marketing as KGF-II, it would've been definitely beat the record, but unfortunately it just remained as an another one of the amongst the regional movie.
I just watched it and damn, I miss now. I should have gone to theaters to watch it but then, there was no marketing of it here in North India. No, nothing. Just a trailer and that's it. I think it would have gone huge but there were already Pushpa, RRR and KGF2 doing good in theaters that time and one will definitely miss hitting the bulls eye at the box office due to over abundance. I think Vikram 2 will do far better in North India if it's promoted well.

Watch 'Managaram' lokesh's first movie, lower budget than kaithi, actors are not quite famous but he did TREMENDOUSLY TOOOOO GOOD. It's one of my fav lokesh film. As a debut director, he showed lot of potential in that. DO CHECK OUT "MANAGARAM"

I loved the movie. As a western audience (I'm still Indian technically, but have been brought up in Australia), I think Kollywood really is on par with Hollywood at the moment. The camera work and story writing was creative. However, this movie needs to be edited!!! 3 hours is way too long and there were just so many unnecessary elements. It was cringewortht in some places too. It feels like an unedited movie, overall.

As you mentioned it felt like a superhero movie so very much the fan service is great as a kamal fan. But this means VJS villain looks weak and comical. 2nd half just felt like just waiting for him to lose. He wasn’t a smart/ clever villain he was just reacting. That was the only big criticism imo. Hopefully Rolex is a bigger legit threat.
In you’re lifetime no Tamil or Malayalam movie can make a movie like Bhahubhali or Rrr or Pushpa or even Kgf. 1000cr for all three movies. So Telugu and Kannada movies >>> than Tamil and Malayalam by a long mile

The original pan Indian quality movie is Vikram rather than Buildup for 2 hrs and content worth only for 45 mins. After all the buildup from the sudden KGF fans watched both the parts and could have better named it Buildup part 1 and Buildup part 2.
funny fact: the director insisted the music director to give him background scores with references of hans zimmer's music in batman triology . Basically the director is a dc fan as he said in multiple interviews.

What I like about Vikram is that raw and rustic touch in every frames, the tone of the movie, that masculine fight sequences, badass bgm by Anirudh, Great intermission, epic cameo by Suriya as "Rolex" a perfect theater material.
Kamal Hassan is on of the best actors in the world. H is a master of film.industry

Guys watch kamal hassan's thoongavanam. It's a remake of a French film. I really love that film. It has some of the most realistic action sequences from Tamil industry I would say. It didn't go well because it was released with mass masala film called Vedalam starring Ajith Kumar. I always think that Thoongavanam didn't get the appreciation it deserved. I remember people trolling Kamal hassan for having a smooch at that age of his life,people were so behind in terms of there maturity at that time and i never understood why it didn't go well and still people don't talk about the film. It's a very underrated action thriller film. It also has great actors in that movie.
Personally I feel all Kamal movies are underrated. He is way ahead of our time that most people doesn't really understand his works and the complexity involved in the process.

In the theatre we watched in, I felt like they were controlling the decibel levels during the movie lol, i don’t even know if that’s possible.

Great review. Couple of things right out of the bat about the db level, i think it was definitely the theater you were in, the theater i was in it was no issue, it was loud with the action scenes with the gun fire and blast but leveling at 112 db, i didn't feel that. Kaithi 2 sequel would have been written and conceived well before this movie was in the inception, I definitely think there is a Vikram 3 which is going to be different than Kaithi 2 , but yet it is a Lokesh universe the director is building. If you guys didn't already know the Hero of the movie Kaithi (his name is Karthi) is younger brother of Suriya, and Suriya being a bigger star than Karthi i don't think Kathi 2 will feature Suriya in a villan role. Love you guys, keep rocking ...
these movies are SO LOUD because of how loud it gets in theatres in India during these large bombastic sequences.
There's 1987 Vikram movie. Kamal Hassan character and few others " agent character " took straight out of that.
All three + Surya were presented very good, it is director Lokesh film backed up by producer Kamal Hassan (if not for him he wouldn't have got the freedom to have somany big actors as characters in a movie). Lokesh would have still done a good film but with all the others joining it has become a feast
Vijay Sethupathi's character was probably the weakest and hence as an actor he had to do the most to make it interesting...Overall enjoyed it thoroughly especially with the restraint FaFa brought to his character which allowed the movie to be a bit more grounded
Hi Guys, Kaithi 2 wld be sequel to Kaithi. Kaithi is connected to Vikram 2. You would see some of the characters from Kaithi in Vikram 2. The hero in Kaithi is the younger bro of Suriya in real life. Anyway Vikram 1 was a 1986 movie where Kamal was the squad agent. If you watch Kaithi, you would understand Vikram 2 better. No other characters from Vikram 1 is in Vikram 2 except Kamal. So you can relate to Vikram 2 without even watching Vikram 1. But Vikram 1 was a gd movie with nice songs and a gd storyline. You can see a young Kamal.

Karthi of kaidhi is the brother of Surya if you didn’t know about this before.
This movie would be most relatable to the Tamil and Telugu fans who know Kamal's movie Vikram (1986) and who has followed Maanagaram, Kaidhi and have grown up with the hype of surya, kamal and VJS. To an extent Kerala and Kannada fans will understand eventhough they dont know the 1986 movie. But for North audience and foreigners, they would keep calling this a kgf movie or similar to Master coz thats what they know.
Me and my friends didn't watch the old Vikram and still enjoyed and understood the movie. I don't think u will lose anything if you don't watch the old Vikram.
