    Ok here's some advice to expand on the very light information provided in this video...
    2002~2005 A4 B6 Quattro AMB Engine (1.8T). What to look for:
    PCV Valve, AKA bleeder valve: Small plastic inline valve from crankcase to inlet manifold. These fail and create bad idle, lean mixture and associated fault codes, cheap to replace ($10-$20)
    Crankcase pressure relief pancake valve: Back of engine. These block up with oil residue. Cheap to replace ($10-$30) Can create idle issue and crankcase ventilation issues under load
    Coil packs: will fail (and will do so at the worst possible time) but shop around, can get some good ones for competitive prices, OEM packs are a rip-off
    Engine rubber air pipes: Disintegrate over time. Create boost and vacuum leaks, you can buy entire replacement kits online, including silicone rubber replacements, cheap.
    Engine vacuum/pressure check valves: fail and let air through them the wrong way creating numerous boost and vacuum issues. Packs of 4 for less than $10.
    Engine coolant sensor. Back of motor. A bit of a PITA to get to first time trying but easy once you do it once or twice. Cheap to replace.
    Use good synthetic oil and change it every 10,000km (normal driving) to ensure sludge doesnt build up inside motor (cylinder head oil drainage design not good for thick oil. blocks small oil channels etc)
    Change auto/diff fluids at 100,00km intervals. Audi says "sealed for life" but in reality that's the life of the warranty then Audi dont really care after that. I took my oil out of the auto trans at 150,000 and it was black/brown, my engine oil looked cleaner.
    Rear gas struts on boot lid (Avant) fail, door will fall down and try to chop off your head. Super heavy without struts working.
    Driver and Passenger seat airbag connector fails (directly under seat ), turns on airbag fault light. Cut out yellow connector and bypass by directly joining wires. Be careful with wiring lol.
    Oil dipstick tube shatters in place. A real shit of a thing. Tube is cheap.
    HID light igniters fail, Valeo sell them new on ebay etc for just over $100 (be careful of chinese copies). If you buy them from Audi they will want to extract your wallet through your ass, then still give you a Valeo item.
    Suspension components wear over time, they don't really fail catastrophically but you will benefit from replacing the key bushes and links. Less tyre wear and better "locked-in" road handling.
    Get the Ross Tech VCDS diagnostic software. Its relatively cheap for private use. You will learn SO much about what your car is doing and save you a ton of money diagnosing your own faults as well!
    CD/cassette player f*cks out. When it does take it out and sell it to your local museum, a cassette player as standard issue in 2002-2005... seriously Audi!?
    Air Con high pressure switch may need replacing. Tiny printed circuit board inside sensor gets corroded and shuts down AC with faulty reading
    *Summary: After 150,000km the instances of electrical components failing happens very quickly. ~Cheap to repair if you know what your looking for, buy the stuff online and replace things by yourself.
    Amazing car to drive though. Not a Toyota in terms of reliability though ;)

      i would add that the electric assembly is often not tight enough. I've had issue with faulty parking light, thought the bulb had burned out, replaced a couple times... duh, the negative contact did not have enough pressure... just a simple bend of the metal contact did the trick. Same issue with cabin light, and sunroof switch.

    Ive owned this model for 5 years now.
    Here are your common problems.
    Yes the glove box hinge is garbage.
    Carbon build up in high mileage.
    Erratic turn signal switch. (On mine, i signal right and it sometimes signals left)
    Ignition coil packs. These will most definitely cause problems. Although they are very easy to replace.
    Manual transmission. The release bearing on my clutch went on mine. Had to replace both the clutch and flywheel even though the main parts were in great condition.
    The timing belt. This is a very pricey fix and should be done every 60k miles. I did it myself, and the parts alone cost me 900. Shop prices are around 3000 for the job, but that should include water pump, all belts, pulleys, etc..
    The variable intake manifold roller is plastic inside the intake manifold. Guaranteed that on any 3.0 with over 80k miles it has worn out and broken apart. Dont know why audi would make this part plastic? Mines broken... Its a 500 part and not worth the money or stress replacing it for 15hp.
    In the end, like the video said. Great car and not so bad to work on. You just need to know what to look out for. The engine also sounds fantastic with the addition of a subtle performance exhaust.
    Hope this post can shine some light on you purchase.

    • @alessandrokremers4806
      @alessandrokremers4806 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you had a very bad 3.0.
      Timing belt costs are less than 300 dollars if you buy a continental timing belt set (better than original) including rolls and waterpump.
      Only real known problem are the 6 ignition coils, but every audi b6 3.0 has a recall action at the dealer for free.
      Carbon build up is because the bad patrol in the USA. You always have to refuel RON98.
      Glove boxes are not built for heavy stuff or not to lean on it.

    The glove back hinges break because of a piston on the right hinge of the glove box, this pistol fouls or clogs causing to much pressure and then it breaks, also its clear this particular model has been cheaply maintained, using "green" universal coolant in VW's and Audi's can be very bad for the cooling system as it hardens and sticks to components in the cooling system unless a proper flush was done, doing a proper flush isn't as cost effective as just using factory coolant. not to mention cars that haven't been crashed (in that particular area) or repainted (in that particular area) have a 12 year rust and corrosion warranty with no mileage or transfer of ownership limitations, they replace the entire panel (if possible) and repaint it to match your car 100% free of charge. Audi's are undoubtedly the most expensive car to maintain, i was talking to a friend that said he can do two full break jobs on his Porsche for the price of one Audi break job, believe me i own one.

    Absolutely spot on. Every Audi I've owned starting with a 4000 CSQ through an ur-quattro, Coupe Quattro and various S models right up to the new S5 have been dead reliable so long as they're properly maintained. If you spend the time to learn about them, the older models hold no mysteries, they just have a bit more complexity that other marques and I've found them no more expensive to maintain than any other car.

    @auto ad builder the reason why the ABS and the TSC lights are on, is because the Steering Position Sensor behind the steering wheel is bad. These go bad from time to time. Also, put some gas in that thing, and always fill up at half tank reason I say this, is because the gas keeps the fuel pump cool. The faster the fuel pump works trying to pump up gas into the fuel lines, the more hotter it gets which can lead to burning out your fuel pump (this applies to any vehicle.) Glad my car is in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing... Good lord...

    • @peekaboo4390

Some BMW's are awesome solid cars but a good majority are something to stay away from especially that V8 that went in the Range Rover...garbage motors to say the least. And an X5 is shit in the snow compared to even a 30 year old 5000 with quattro. I get a good laugh out of people when they say xdrive and 4matic out perform quattro. • @automotiveadbuilder
      @automotiveadbuilder  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol, no such thing as a small one. The problem is with the that V8 it is really hard to service. Not a lot of room with that engine. A lot of them have that oil issue. It also has the timing chain in the rear of the motor against the fire wall. So basically if it had to be serviced it has to come out. Thankfully most of time chains don't really require service, however I have heard some horror stories. Don't get me wrong I love that car and the way that chain in the 4.2 whines like a supercharger. I have also done some great driving maneuvers with that vehicle. It has the fun factor, usually fairly cheap price to own buying wise, but keeping that engine has an issue it can be costly. Its hard to pin point the oil leak, did he state where it is? Send me the link of the ad on my facebookfacebook.com/autoadbuilder/I would like to look at the car and the price.

    oh yeah and that gas meter is low because of the great mpg

  • @peekaboo4390
    @peekaboo4390 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not necessarily aftermarket body parts are the cause ... they all rust on the lower from wheel wells, the passenger side gets more road salt and that is why yours has rusted out. The glove box is a really poor design, they all fail. The Bosch 5.7 ABS module will fail they all do but can be repaired for around 400 dollars. Repairing the suspension can be a pain as it is mostly aluminium with steel bolts and overtime these metals will corrode together and become a real pain to remove. Expect electrical issues. For DIY'ers there are many sources for parts but never go to the dealership for them, that ABS module will run you $3000. The B6 3.0 AVK engine is certainly not a race monster but is reliable if it has been loved( oil changes on time with the right oil. If you find one with a standard transmission you are lucky as the CVT is usually done with a medium milage car...lots of issues there. If you are handy( and patient) you can do most if not all the repairs but once done the driving experience is second to non.
