8 years ago, I harvested my first bull.
Yes it was a spike but being my first elk it was a great experience.
Couple days before harvesting my first elk, we were pursing a herd containing 1 bull.
As we were sneaking towards the herd, noticed another hunter already pursing the same bull.
Unfortunately for us, he was there first. He, the other hunter, harvested the bull.
With only him there, we helped gut and pack it. It was a great experience! I didn't realize the work involved from gutting to packing. It's an all day process but something I will remember to the end of times.
Now, on to my first elk....
On Day 7, as we pursed the bull, we noticed 2 hunters behind us about 100 yards.
We waited for them to catch up. After talking to them, they knew we were there pursuing the same bull that we were watching. 1 of the 2 hunters stated that he was going to shoot the bull even though it was over our heads. The distance to the bull was 1500 to 2000 yards. Unbelievable to say the least, it was crazy to realize their intentions. Luckily, they did not and as you will see, we harvested MY FIRST BULL.
