Putting a Seymour Duncan Invader in mine when it gets here tomorrow. I'm so glad I jumped on it when I received the announcement from the Fender website. They were gone the next day.
Over the years I’ve had a couple of the original first editions on my workbench. They’re great fun. If I remember in 2003 they were around 200 euros. Here in Europe.
I bought mine new in 2006... it was great then and Squier has only gotten better. I used mine as a mod platform, I put locking hipshot tuners a Dimarzio Evolution and new electronics... it sleeps in a Fender molded case like it was an American Fender
I got one. You’re right, it’s a very well built guitar. I’ve owned custom shop Strats from fender and the neck on this feels premium. Great guitar. Nice review. I just subbed.
I have wanted one of these for a while. I also want a pink paisley Strat. Pink is a cool color for a guitar. Hello Kitty is so popular in Japan that Fender Japan is selling a limited edition Hello Kitty Stratocaster thats only available in Japanese market.
I would definitely replace the pickup for something more defined and tighter sounding if it was me. It’s super flubby and bassy to me. The thing I always loved about this guitar is it makes a really cool mod project/platform!
Seems to be sold out in the UK. Nearest is a pink Squire Strat with one ceramic humbucker and a toploader hardtail. Similar but not the same. Dylan I think you should put Rotosound Pinks on and play it through a Friedman Pink Taco
I wish that I could get one of those, it looks great, has a fixed bridge with string-through body, just one humbucker and one volume control which makes it a no-nonsense guitar for rock and metal.
tried it out at guitar center. Can confirm- Really good quality.... It's on par with the classic vibe. wouldn't be surprised if it came from that factory line. As long as the neck feels good, i can just slap on some good duncans and call it a day
Howdy Dylan - thanks for the great video. I have one of the original models in black from the late nineties - It's p/u looks nearly identical to the close up you showed in the video. I went to replace it, but it is an odd small size... I forget the measurement, but a standard exposed coil non-f spaced Seymour wouldn't fit... are you seeing the same on that one or is it regular sized?
I modified mine. First I got rid of the Hello Kitty pickguard. Then I replaced the tuners, nut and neck with a Tom DeLonge signature Fender neck. And then I replaced the body with a Tom DeLonge signature Fender body, neck plate and painted it black. Finally I replaced the electronics and pickup with CTS and a Dylan Super 8 humbucker. I highly recommend these modifications.
I know you're joking, but on the Tom Delonge guitars, I don't understand them. There's a special edition run, it costs more than a regular strat or starcaster, but it has fewer pickups and controls. Fine, some people like the one pickup/ volume knobs only equipped instruments, but why should they cost so much more for less options?
i just received mine and seriously, this guitar is very under rated. It may in fact be a really really good Chinese made squier. And the gig bag is surprisingly good as well - not like those flimsy guitar covers with a zipper that you get with cheaper squier packs. All the detractors are missing out.
Ordered one a day before seeing this, I'm on a waiting list and suppose to get it in February. Another reviewer compared it to feeling like a Squier Classic Vibe. : Enjoy your reviews.
I love unusual guitars, I prefer ones that stand out. There is a video on TH-cam and Facebook of a metal guitar player in concert were his band mates swapped his guitar for one of those, he was impressed.
11:24 A lot of that issue I've seen blamed on the cheap volume pot in other reviews, so it might be able to do that better than it's allowed in the stock wiring. edit: saw that got mentioned
The Hello Kitty guitars are, without a doubt, truly remarkable. Let’s be honest: classic guitars like the Stratocaster, Telecaster, and Les Paul, while undeniably iconic, have looked largely the same for decades. They’re like the three-piece suits of the guitar world-timeless but hardly thrilling. Sanrio's characters, on the other hand, stand as some of the most iconic cultural influences of all time. So why not breathe new life into the guitar with an icon as universally adored as Hello Kitty? This guitar is simply pure, unfiltered brilliance on every level. I absolutely love it! These are hugely collectable for a reason, and it's important to recognise that TH-cam comment trolls don't reflect reality. Again, this guitar is a bargain at $500!
The only bummer is that they've made the control cavity smaller compared to the previous version, so fitting in a battery is impossible now I guess. Overall I'd buy it but it already sold out in most EU stores here (and it doesn't just say out of stock).
Sounds like it could use an audio taper pot on the volume. That's an inexpensive upgrade an end user with a soldering iron can do. Given the price point, I wouldn't expect a pickup that can do high gain well. If you're buying for metal, then you'll need to add a few $$ for a good high gain pickup. Not sure how this pickup is made but it sounds good enough for beginner to intermediate players. It did seem a bit brittle on the cleans but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a tone correction on the amp.
The reason the link doesn't work is because Sweetwater got 50 of them and they sold all of them in less than 2 hours. They won't be getting any more! So I guess somebody likes them.
He might be talking about the cheap strings that come in these import guitars. Even the Fender branded strings aren't really that great compared to D'Addario and some other brands.
