    Hey Layton 🤙🏼 can you show us "how to backhand Roundhouse cutback" in your next Video. I find it totally difficult ... not as easy as the Frontside one. Thx
    Marc 🛹

    • @YeWLayton
      @YeWLayton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Marc, so the backhand rouse house is similar to a backhand carve (check out my video on how to carve), it's pretty much a combination of a backside carve into a frontside bottom turn. Once you carve it off the top, you just want to hold that line and transition into a front side bottom turn, you can then hit it off the top to complete that roundhouse! Hope this helps! YEW!

    Hi Layton, great video, thanks!
    Looking to buy a Smoothstar for surf training, I'm 185cm / 85kg, should I go for the Filipe Toledo #77 34' or the bigger Manta Ray 35,5'...?
    The #77 looks much better but I need to get the right board!
    Thanks for your advice. Cheers

    • @YeWLayton
      @YeWLayton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Nico, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm 188cm and ride the 34" Toldeo, it just depends what sort of surfskating you're going to be doing. If you're going to be doing airs and technical manoeuvres then the Toldeo would be the go, as it's a bit lighter making it a bit easier to throw around. If you're going to be doing more cruising and carving then go the Manta. Both are good for carving and technical manoeuvres, I just prefer the Toldeo as it suits my style of surfskating better, but if I'm carving in a big bowl or something I'd probably use the manta. Hope that helps, yew!

    Hi there thanks for your video! I’m looking to get a smooth star. I’m a beginner in surfing and surfskate. I’m 158cm and weight about 53kg. I would like to cruise around alleys, parks and eventually graduate to bowls and pump tracks. Do you recommend I get the flying fish 32” or johanne defay 32.5”? Thanks so much in advance! I’m no sure how much height and board length matters. Appreciate it!

    • @YeWLayton
      @YeWLayton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! I'd go the Johanne Defay, that half an inch will help just that little extra to be a bit more balanced when starting out and the straighter edge tail will make it easier to get your back foot placement. Both boards are perfect for cruising and skateparks. Hope this helps and happy surfskating! YEW!

    • @YeWLayton
      @YeWLayton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a bit tricky on a surfskate, I don't do them much as the board is too heavy and doesn't stick to your feet. However, out in the surf when doing them, you got to make sure you have some good air wind. For example, I live on the East coast of Australia and I'm a natural footer, so going right with a northerly wind will help my board stick to my feet when up in the air, if you're goofy it'll be the opposite. You want want to make sure you have a good air section on the wave too, something that's steep but hasn't started to break yet. As you hit the section, you sorta want to project up and back towards the beach and rotate your head, shoulders and hips into the direction you're rotating. Eg. I'd rotate my head, shoulders & hips right to rotate clockwise, as a natural footer going right. You just sorta have to practice that with some speed till you eventually stomp it. Hope that helps a bit, what some vids of Julian Wilson, Filipe Toldeo or John John doing them and study what they do

    how tight are the front and back trucks? looks like you got em super loose! awesome tutorial! cheers!

    • @YeWLayton
      @YeWLayton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! The front truck mechanism on the Smoothstar is called a Thruster and it's designed to be really loose to allow for that loose surfing feeling you get on your surfboard. You can tighten and loosen them if you want, but I don't, I just wear them in over time, it helps when they're loose though

      Thanks bro! Not sure, they're just the stock wheels that come on the Smoothstar. I'd say they're pretty firm, the grip nicely, but also allow you to slide if you want to.

    do the same techniques for sliding a longboard downhill work on a surfskate?

    • @YeWLayton
      @YeWLayton  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, just have to be mindful how hard you push your surfskate to slide, as the front truck is a lot looser than a longboard
