If almost all of the puzzles are so poorly designed that the developers needed to essentially write a walkthrough for them into the game then that's every bit as damning a condemnation of their design though.
I totally agree that the cycle of horror is starting again, if RE7 was the "alone in the dark" of 2017 then Resident evil 2 remake is the "Resident evil 1" of survival horror in that loop I think we are seeing a quick fire of the genre trying to find its footing again and that's very exciting.
I wonder what the effect of indie platforms like itchio will be on the development of horror - we've seen a lot of smaller devs emulate games like P.T. and Amnesia, but more recently I've seen some (like Oleander Garden and Modus Interactive) be more experimental. I hope that trend catches on and we see a whole new world of creative possibilities come around!
If You don't take the key to the caves, You are indeed softlocked. That's how my first playthrough ended. The bridge colapses so You can't return. and if You try returning through the cave, the giant worm blocks Your way
that's very likely a shoggoth that was chasing you in the tunnels when you fight Shoe Bill. considering all the HPL references, this scene (other than Mr Bird attacking you) looks like it's lifted from At the Mountains of Madness. as for the resolution, you have to remember that monitors were much smaller (14-15" was the norm) and had lower resolutions, so it wasn't that much of a visual clusterfuck as it is today. i think upping the resolution on modern monitors would actually make it look closer to vintage :) imo, if you're a big fan of horror games, AitD is absolutely mandatory, just like Wolf3D and Doom(2) are if you're a shooter fan, or Dune 2/C&C/Warcraft1 if you're an RTS fan, just to give a few examples, as those are the games that started it all and should be experienced to get a bit of sens of history. or don't if you don't care about that stuff :) and i paused to be able to read the end text, so i guess i'm an A++ human? :P
(TH-cam keeps destroying my comments so apologies if you receive several different replies!) It certainly could be a shoggoth - according to the AitD wiki it's a deep one, but I'm not sure how reliable that is considering they call the shoebills "demon chickens". That's a good point about resolution - I hadn't considered monitor size. That being said, I went back and played some of the game using different resolutions and found that the platforming segments were pretty disorientating regardless so I suppose it's more of a camera issue than a resolution one. The historical element of the game definitely makes it worthwhile if you're into that kind of thing (which I am!) but I was speaking from the perspective of a modern horror fan who is accustomed to the norms and standards set out by games like Amnesia, Outlast and RE7. I'd find it difficult to recommend this game to those kinds of players, I'd probably tell them to play Resident Evil 1 (1998 or remake, both are good) first so they can get used to the movement, camera, puzzles and narrative standards of the time. You definitely qualify as an A++ human. Thanks for watching! It's always good to see your comments.
I've been rewatching all your videos from the start while playing the new Vampire Survivors DLC and now that Red Dead Redemption is on PC I'd love a followup to your cryptid series about the two open world Red Dead games (and the Undead Nighmare DLC).
See I actually got the solution to this puzzle almost immediately but I think that’s because I was remembering a similar puzzle from of all places a flash game I once played called Obama in the dark
Again, all the puzzles r explained in different books and letters. U really r a terrible player, aren't u?
