Taemin himself is an art~ he grow up loving MJ dancing styles, and beside MJ that being an influence to his dancing style, his other members in SHINee are the bigger influence to him~ being SHINee's fans since 2008 makes me feel so proud of every single member in SHINee~ and for Taemin, as a solo artist, he himself is like a 'genre' as he already create his very own unique style in song, music and dance~

People can interpret songs differently there's no true interpretation unless the artist states it. It does make sense that people focused on things such as the crop top or bra and tattoos because they do correlate with the lyrics a lot of people interpret it as going against biases hence "you keep stigmatizing" and "gossip" and taemin has been known since "move" to talk about biases and show that androgynity is not something bad he dealt a lot with surpressing his feminine side because people were expecting him to be feminine based on the way he looks and he also got a lot of weird comments but through the years he accepted a lot of sides of himself and has talked about it. The song can be about multiple things and people can interpret however they want most people did not experience anything going on in the music industry so they interpret songs with their personal experiences and in the end neither of us know what the right interpretation is unless he talks about it.

I know this was a while ago so don't mind me ^^' but I do think that his crop top and tattoos are relevant to the message of the lyrics, they're visuals reinforcing what he's saying. Essentially that he can dress how he wants and show his tattoos, even if it's androgynous or tattoos are "inappropriate," he's going to embrace who he is regardless of if people talk about it. The visual message feels very "in-your-face" just like the lyrics!

Plus all the ppl especially the Korean interviewers trying to sexual him during that time cuz of his feminine looks. Similar to Heechul of SJ and Jimin. Taemin is in SHINee, the group having debuted in 2008 when he was only 14. he debuted solo in 2014 and has since grown to become one of the most successful and well-known soloists in the industry (and SHINee is still active and very much acknowledged as legends in the industry). he’s often referred to as “the idol’s idol”, because so many kpop idols name him as their inspiration to sing and dance. the kpop community, even if they don’t stan him, can pretty much all agree he’s the best dancer in kpop and he is often acknowledged as such. he’s also earned the name of “the Michael Jackson of Korea”, not just because of the respect everyone in the industry and community have for him and his legendary status, but due to his dance style and the music styles of some of his releases. his solo debut “Danger” was very MJ inspired. he looks up to MJ and says he was the reason he wanted to start dancing, and it shows in some of his work. i’d say Advice is probably the release of his that’s the least MJ inspired, but it’s still so unique and so Taemin.
Taemin enlisted into the Korean military in May 2021, and just recently it was released to the public that he was being moved from the military band into community service, because he’s unfortunately been suffering with depression and a panic disorder. everyone was worried about him going into the military, because we could tell he was scared and anxious about it before he left. he never cries in front of people, but he went live after the announcement of his enlistment and he cried on the stream and really opened up to us. hopefully, he improves with counseling and if not then i hope it’s possible for them to discharge him early. his original discharge date is November 30th this year i believe, but it may change. thank you for looking into him and reacting to him :) 💜

Welcome to SHINee and Taemin world!
Taemin debuted with SHINee when only 14 years old (they were all really young, from 19 yo to 14) and holds a sort of record because he:
    - debuted with SHINee in 2008 (2nd k-pop generation). song: Replay
    - debuted as solo artist within SM Entertainment in 2014 (3rd k-pop generation). song: Danger
    - debuted with Super M group in 2019 (4th k-pop generation). song: Jopping
Hope you will do some more reactions to Taemin and SHINee, not only to the MV but to live performances because they were (and are) absolutely amazing performers. Thank you.

Love to watch those unfamiliar with Taemin react to him for the first time....lol. Sir, we love your enthusiasm, awe, and appreciation of our baby maknae Taemin. So, thank you for this reaction and welcome to T-Pop (Taemin Pop)! Taemin is the most unique and unusual Kpop artist in the industry, and a true legend to younger idols and industry insiders alike. Like SHINee, his music is distinct from the rest of Kpop. He and SHINee slide seamlessly in, between, and through just about every genre of music you can think of, even to the point of mixing genres to create new, experimental sounds --- like "Advice". One of SHINee's latest songs, "Don't Call Me" marries Hip-Hop with R&B & Classical creating a very distinct sound which topped the charts in 2020.
Regarding the meaning to Taemin's lyrics...be careful. He's a lyrical and musical genius (as are all SHINee members, especially our dearly departed angel, Jonghyun). Taemin's concepts and meanings go much deeper than the surface meaning. So while you hit on part of it, Taemin has never been an idol who acted out, disparaged anyone, got angry at fans, or had any scandals. In fact, SHINee is one of the cleanest groups in that respect in the whole of Kpop. Taemin is a devout Christian (of the Catholic variety) and regularly infuses his MVs and lyrics with Christian metaphors, symbolism, iconography, allegories and allusions. So with each MV/song, you must look for those in order to properly interpret his underlying messages. For instance, Taemin regularly incorporates a T-Pose in his dancing (as you see in the ending of this MV). This is a representation of the Cross. Often you will also see him make the sign of the Cross in his choreos as well -- multiple times in one song. This is done mostly with his live performances. Taemin's faith is who he is, and he's not shy about it. To overlook this aspect of him as a person and artist is to miss much of his art.
Although Michael Jackson is one of Taemin's inspirations, so too were Usher, Rain (1st gen Idol), and several others. Taemin was fascinated by MJ's "Smooth Criminal" and at 9/10, he began to copy his favorite dance moves in front of his bedroom mirror. By the time he was 11, he attended a Saturday open audition with SM. Only six idols out of thousands each year EVER made it through a Saturday open audition. Taemin was one of them. Here is his audition video: th-cam.com/video/ivxYp4nZ3aY/w-d-xo.html (you will know which one is him...lol.) In 2008, at the age of 14, he debuted with the also legendary 2nd gen. trendsetters of Kpop, SHINee, and the rest is history.
Taemin went on to debut four times in three generations of Kpop. In 2014 he became SM's first-ever male soloist from an active Kpop group. From there, he dropped one to two albums (Korean and Japanese) every year until enlistment. In 2019, he was the first one asked to join a new "super" group, Super M, comprised of some of the best of the best of SM. Although Taemin was the senior artist (25 YO) and had the most experience of the group, he was not the oldest nor the youngest. He was, however, supposed to be the designated leader of the group. However, in true Taemin fashion, to get out of being the leader, he held a VLIVE with the rest of the group to nominate a leader. The other members instantly called out his name, but Taemin declined and nominated the eldest of the group to be leader, stating that he has always been a maknae in SHINee and liked that position. He didn't want to be leader. In that moment, he thwarted management's plans.
Taemin commands only the best for his MVs, choreographers (he does do some of his own + he always tweaks whatever choreo he's given to make it his own), producers, directors, back-up dancers, etc. In fact, he has two crews of BU dancers: Korean and Japanese. Each crew member is either a professional dancer and/or choreographer. Is he the best dancer in Kpop? I think so and so do most Kpop insiders. That is why many in the industry want to work with him. He is a MASTER at popping, locking, and isolations. He can literally pop each individual muscle of his body -- including fingers. Plus his speed and fluidity are unmatched. The man just flows like water or liquid silver. But it doesn't stop just there. His concepts and creativity are just as unique and inventive like dancing on a custom, 45-degree slanted stage and upgraded to a 3-tiered slanted stage, dancing bound in straps and blindfolded, etc. Concepts like Stockholm syndrome ("Criminal"), Plato's Theory of Forms ("IDEA"), Genesis 3 of the Bible ("Want") and the deadly sins ("Famous") are things only Taemin would dream of doing. These are the elements that not only make him a top-tier dancer, but the King of Kpop: th-cam.com/video/uL4uD_ktwnI/w-d-xo.html . To get an idea of why he is considered such a legend, (as is his group SHINee who basically raised him) you can watch this mini-documentary on him called, "The Artist: Taemin", th-cam.com/video/m2_MVBxmdyc/w-d-xo.html . It shows you the level of respect and deference he receives from the Kpop world. Not bad for an idol who couldn't sing at debut due to immature vocal cords! Thankfully his two SHINee hyungs, Onew & Jonghyun (two of the very best vocalists of Korea), tutored him in vocal lessons.
Lastly, although Taemin appears extremely intense, fierce, and a monster on stage, he's actually somewhat shy, goofy, and a ball of fluff off-stage, who can also be extremely mischievous or savage when warranted. This duality in his personality has become renowned throughout Kpop. As one of his idol friends, Ravi of VIXX, stated, "He is tofu with a core of iron." He's also considered the most kind and likeable idol, as he will readily help anyone who asks and readily allows other younger idols to cover his music, telling them not to worry about doing him, but to interpret it on their own and infuse the dance with their own style, as SF9 did in their more recent cover of Taemin's "Move" for a televised competition show.
I would encourage you to continue to explore Taemin's music. It vastly different and interesting. His 2-part 2020 abum, "Never Gonna Dance Again", Acts 1 & 2 is a MASTERPIECE which incudes a storyline which runs through the entire 2 albums beginning with "2 Kids" (Act 1) schism of his ego into 2 separate egos causing a break-up in his mind, as the prologue; "Criminal" (Act 1) the resulting struggle of the two egos depicted as Stockholm syndrome; and "IDEA" (Act 2) the climactic battle and resolution of the two egos portrayed through the concept of Plato's Theory of Forms. This MV, "Advice", is the epilogue of that storyline showing the new, stronger Taemin who will dismiss the one "collective" voice and follow his own "Advice". The 2021 mini-album of the same name is a vocal feast for the ears and demonstrates how masterfully Taemin can use his voice to play with his music. There is a LOT to explore (going on 14 years) with both Taemin and SHINee. Happy hunting....

So happy you checked out Taemin. He is incredible! I mentioned him to you back at the beginning of your Kpop journey. Because of his incredible dance ability people refer to him as the Michael Jackson of KPop. If he is dancing with a group of people, you can quickly pick him out just by his talent. If you want to see more of his stuff. Check out his songs "CRIMINAL" and "IDEA", in that order. By the way, the pose at the very end where he puts his arms straight out is a very "Taemin" thing. Rob, did you realize that his "T-Pose" is a reflection of his Christian faith? He's honoring Christ on the Cross. If you watch very closely, he also often incorporates the sign of the Cross into his choreos. You can see it in the DP for "IDEA" when they do the staggard dancing part (like in Sherlock). Right before Taemin starts dancing and he's facing left, you will see a quick hand motion, then he turns and travels across to the middle of the practice room. You can also very obviously see it 3x in his "Heaven" performance at Inkigayo at the 1:02, 1:07, and 1:50 marks.

I see "Advice" as a continuation of the themes within Taemin's previous Never Gonna Dance Again album trilogy -- "2 Kids," "Criminal" and "Idea." With "Criminal" and "Idea," Taemin talks about being involved in a toxic relationship -- not necessarily a romantic relationship, but a metaphor for his relationship with fame -- in which he agrees to be manipulated almost to the point of being destroyed in order to become the artist we see today. But in the end of "Idea" we see him become free from the box everyone wants to put him in and he comes to terms with his role as an idol. He has now formed his own "Idea" about himself and what it means to be an idol, etc.
As Taemin explained during his VLive event for "Advice", "Advice" is like the end to the first chapter in his life, and the beginning of his second chapter, which will be after he completes his military service. (He enlisted May 30 and he will be on hiatus for the next 18 months as he fulfills his duty to his country.) The song seems to be his way of saying I am done caring to everyone who judged him and all those haters who spread rumors and misinformation about him. "Advice" is showing that he is now free and confident to be himself, breaking stereotypes and now only listening to himself.
Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two performers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends.
And the title of the industry's BEST dancer isn't just a fan's opinion but it's a widely agreed upon title bestowed on Taemin by his peers and the industry as a whole.
In "Advice" he's basically saying, "Stop trying to put me in a box, in which I'll never fit in." He is also speaking to everyone that says he's getting old, that he's just a Michael Jackson wannabe that doesn't sell a lot of albums because he tries too hard to be edgy, etc. He's rebelling against all those people who are constantly advising him to make more mainstream music or to follow the traditional Kpop idol style in order to boost his sales and his popularity. However, as Taemin is making clear in "Advice," that is not who he is and he will never be "normal" or "mainstream" and he is OK with that.
In the scenes where you see him covered in ink, I think that is supposed to be him showing everyone how he is no longer the "unstained," cute maknae everyone wants to think of him as. The diamond you see painted on his hand when he is playing the piano is the official symbol of his group SHINee. (The large tattoo on his hip is real. Hence why in the lyrics he says, "I destroy the torso that you were chasing after." He's tired of people thinking they even have a say in what he does with his body.)
This song was specifically designed to not be like anything he has ever done before. He plays the piano, he raps, he shows off his falsetto notes, etc. which is different than what we often hear and see from him. He intentionally used this song to prove that he isn't one type of singer. People often think of Taemin as a sultry vocalist that sings in a breathy comfortable less dynamic style. So, with this song he wants to prove to everyone that he can be unpredictable and try new things. Yet again, you can't put him in a box or tell him who to be. Everything you see in this MV is 100% Taemin.
Everything that Taemin's haters like to point out about him and say are reasons why he shouldn't be held to such high esteem, I find completely ridiculous. I don't think that anyone who actually knows him would ever say he has played it safe at anytime in his career. If you think he is only one dimensional, and that he is trying to be anything other than himself, then you really don't know Taemin. Everything he does is different, out there and definitely not safe. It's always uniquely Taemin, and he couldn't do it any other way.
Also, because Taemin is a member of SHINee, none of his songs are ever like anything you have every heard or seen before from him. It will always have a new beat, style and sound. As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, SHINee is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend, and that includes the members' solo work. With every new song Taemin produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from him in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, it still will be uniquely Taemin-like. Which is another example of how you can never put him in a box or expect anything from him. :D
Another theme in "Advice" is about how Taemin is embracing his androgynous side -- but on his own terms -- which I think is a continuation of the message in his "Move" MV. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee he was known for his feminine look. The industry thought it was novel and cute to dress Taemin up as a girl and play up his feminine features. It took him a long time to accept that he was known for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career he is making a statement about how he has decided to be himself and no longer care what people think. Music is art and art has no gender. So, that is why in "Advice" you see him wearing hair extensions, fishnets and women's Supreme sports wear, etc. But if you notice, his choreography is very fast paced and sharp which is hyper masculine -- a complete contrast to the "feminine" image people want to give him. You also see him wearing makeup, but it's smeared on his face, as if to say, "people may think of me as a 'Pretty Boy,' but I don't care about looking pretty."
In the lyrics he is saying, "It's creepy how people are always looking to cause drama, so stop trying to create scandals in my life that don't really exist. It's all just stories you make up." He's tired of all those people who seem to look for reasons to cause drama, where none really exists.

Where he says "floppy" in the lyrics, I think he's talking about knowing about or hearing firsthand the things people are saying about him, but he is choosing not to pay attention to them because what they're saying is flopping or doesn't hold any weight or have any substance, etc. "Advice" just proves that everytime people try to put Taemin in a box he destroys it and keeps coming back with something more unique and never seen before.
I interpret the "One (piece of ) Advice" he is talking about in the lyrics as a reference to the advice he keeps being given about being more mainstream, but he's saying, "stop trying to make me conform to the image you have in your head of who I should be and what I should do" -- in other words, take all that time and effort you have been using to come up with ways to talk about how I don't fit in, etc. and put it to better use. "Follow my own advice" and do something original for once.
As a devout Catholic, Taemin often uses Biblical references and metaphors in his songs and MVs. And the crucifixion pose at the end of "Advice" is sort of a signature pose for him. I interpret it to be like he is saying, "And that is the end, this is my final word, take it or leave it, but don't doubt me. I have gave it my all and laid everything I had out there for you," etc.
If you are impressed with Taemin's dancing in this MV, just wait until you see him dance live. You will be even more blown away. As I said, Taemin is on a whole other level.
And, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Taemin and SHINee. That is why they are one of the top groups in the industry and why they have such legendary status. SHINee is made up of some of the absolute best singers, dancers and performers in the entire industry. With 13 years since their debut, they still command one of the top spots. When Taemin debuted in 2008 as part of SHINee he was only 14 years old and, yet, he was already known as one of the best dancers in the industry, and he only becomes more magnificent as you follow him through his career.
Now after more than a decade, Taemin is still one of the youngest in many Kpop circles -- he is only 28 -- and, yet, he often has the most seniority and experience. He is so well respected that everyone looks up to him.
SHINee is a group that is known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CDNee or CD-eaters because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing, so they avoid it at all costs. When you hear the members of SHINee singing, 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing then they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, what you will hear is live vocals. They have specifically trained their entire career to build endurance and stamina in order to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography for more than 3 hours straight. SHINee set the standard. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach.

Thank you for this detailed reaction and for your such a deep explanation of how you see it. In fact, Taemin is struggling a depression since last year, but no one knows actually how long time ago it started. Of course I didn't mean or refer the lyrics of this song or something else to his present condition, but anyway, every music video, especially his last MV chain with its lyrics is just ART (Move - Want - Criminal - Idea - Advice) Well, it's just my vision of everything I've explained here next, but I recommend you to see all these Taemin's music videos cause this MVs' story starts with 1) sexy and passionate vibes (Move) with a new acquaintance, 2) then continues with a bit addicted to love vibes (Want) saying like "I'm your toy, do with me whatever you want", 3) then totally addicted to love and trapped (Criminal) where he understands that the love is kinda cruel and not normal but in spite of that he keep wanting to be trapped, 4) then (Idea) he finally understands that this love is not okey at all and like "I'm not your toy, let me just go and start a new life without you", 5) and ends with (Advice) which you have already got. This is just so creative and amazing and this makes Taemin a real artist.

I subscribed not even halfway through your reaction… I’d already loved your facial expressions and obvious enjoyment, but your grasp of his intentions and insight into the intricacies of the MV, along with your appreciation of Taemin’s artistry (because he is an artist) definitely earned my subscription. I would be absolutely thrilled to watch your reaction to the prologue (2 Kids) and first two songs of this trilogy (Criminal & IDEA). You’ll find them on his Never Going To Dance Again albums (he is widely known for his dancing- he won his audition with SM being self-taught and only 11 years old, debuting at age 14 as the main dancer of his group and is widely regarded as the best dancer in South Korea). Taemin is known for having multilayered meanings behind his songs and MVs and I just know you’ll fall even more in love. “Want” also has some beautiful imagery, along with “Flame of Love”, “Just Me And You”, “Famous”, “Thirsty”, and “Sayonara Hitori”. He debuted as a solo artist in 2014 (the first SM artist to do so while active in a group-the group being SHINee, which debuted in 2008, and are known as the Princes of KPOP). Actually, Taemin is one of only two artists who have debuted in three generations (Taeyeon having only this year joined as the second artist to do so): he debuted with SHINee for 2nd Gen (they’re still active, though on brief hiatus whilst awaiting Taemin’s military discharge), as a solo artist during 3rd Gen, and with 4th Gen SuperM in 2019 (the Avengers of KPOP, comprising of the best and brightest SM male artists in collaboration with Capitol Records, USA, and, later, Marvel). With nearly fourteen years of material, both in Korean and Japanese (with a few English songs thrown in via SuperM), you have a ton of amazing content to discover and I look forward to watching your journey.

Deep interpretation. I love it! Lee Taemin is one of (in my opinion, the best) best artists in Kpop. Also, Taemin's played with feminine/masculine aspects in his persona for years. He does that in this video too with male and female dance crews and the outfits he wears - notice he's wearing a sports bra under a cropped sweatshirt in the last dance scene. He's a very sensitive soul, Lee Taemin. Based on this video and his Famous video and his live performance of Pinnochio, I've always thought that Taemin may be looking forward to hanging up his spurs and walking away from fame. Except that he loves music and is so very creative - see the lyrics in his song Idea - so we'll see if he returns to Kpop after he's discharged from the military. I hope so. He is Kpop's dark prince and there is no one else like him.

He worked so hard to leave something special for us. And now he's going through the hard depression. Dom't know if you are Shinee fan or not, but Shinee lost one member in 2017 because of depression and now everyone supports Taemin, who is on his way to heal it. I have honestly NEVER had the thought, that Taemin would benefit from watching a creator’s analysis of his work, but I have the feeling Teamin would feel SEEN, in a way he wouldn’t be in Korea, to have someone understand his working without in-depth explanation.
    To just feel Seen.
These reactions should be translated to accurate, nuanced Korean, so that Koreans have the chance to understand him better, and as Taemin watches content about himself, he’d have the chance to feel SEEN by somebody.

  • @PsiChoCybia
    @PsiChoCybia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, this creator talks a lot, but it has to be perfectly clear- you will not find another creator more insightful than this. A lot of creators reacting to content aren’t all that insightful, especially with Taemins imagery, they get it more often WRONG, and as wrong as it can possibly get - but not THIS guy.
So, maybe you’re not that into heavy commentary, I know I’m usually not, but this creator is enjoyable because he is genuinely insightful, unlike so many, many, many others.

One of my fav past times is analyzing and deconstructing Taemin’s videos. You helped me realize a connection I hadn’t before. You mentioned all the shredded paper in the scenes with him and the piano… he also is covered in black “ink”. I think this represents the effect the press and the media has on him. But then at the end of the video he is in white with the crop top, revealing his tattoo for the first time, relating to “destroying the torso you sought after”; back when Taemin was touring with SuperM in the US I believe he got the stomach tattoo, and there was a lot of controversy about it. I think this is him saying to the public: your words cannot affect me, and are only surface deep, I am the only one who chooses what affects me and how I live my life, whether you like it or not.
Thanks for the reaction! Taemin is an artist of a different breed and I’m excited that you’re beginning to discover him and his work.

You just discovered the greatest soloist in kpop history! And your breakdown of the Advice MV and lyrics was just absolutely amazing! I hope in the future you have the time to react to other songs from Taemin like Criminal, Idea or Famous. And maybe even some bsides since I just love your interpretation of the lyrics!

All the lyrics in these songs : Famous - Criminal - Idea - Advice , they are all linked to each other . All of these are masterpieces . Togheter they show you the inner turmoil he is going through both as an artist and as a human being . For me it is heartbreking to see his pain but seeing his work I hope he will be able to overcome all the difficulties . I only found out about him about 3 weeks ago by chance and I'm glad to see a living artist who can join the line of kings as: Michael Jackson , Freddie Mercury , George Michael ...I love him and I can't wait for his comeback with other masterpieces and to see him healty and happy .

Taemin is called the King of KPOp for a reason.
No one can top him as a whole artist ... Currently he is already a musical reference for many other new, young and old idols. I Recommend more Taemin content like WANT, IDEA

Please check it out Criminal, Idea and Black Rose. It’s absolutely incredible. He’s such an unique artist, and an amazing person. Check his group too, SHINEe, they’re one of the best groups of kpop, the princes of kpop for sure.

Hi!! I missed this and I wanted to mention something:
The lock--> his eye --> his mind (eyes are the windows of the soul, right?)
The hotel room = his mind, he's too big to stay in there trapped ;)
PLUS take a look a the "shredded paper" room. My take is it's connected to his lyrics about destroying the "torso", destroying what you see. He's in a place where if you want to make sense of him, it'll take you a lot of effort and work (like putting together shredded documents). Again, that's my take. I love watching MVs ^^UU
Take care, glad to see you doing much better!

As a shawol and fan of kpop since 2007... I've seen Taemin grow up and how much his dance has matured and his voice is quite a poem Kim Jonghyun would be very proud of him at this moment. Hopefully many shawols will support all these things about the boys and the new generations will know how talented they are
