      How are you going to bill an entity that doesn't exist anymore? Remember, in the US companies are considered people and once the company goes out of business they are classified as dead. You can't charge a dead person a debt. At this point, the state needs to clean it up on taxpayer's money.

      It is why shell companies get set up. A "company" that may have only one project. After it becomes unprofitable, abandon and fold up shop. Company gone, no liability to a bigger player.

    Instead of oil industry tax breaks, money should go into a clean up fund.
    What is going to happen is EPA clean up adding to the federal debt.
    States need to step up.

    I would like to see the government go after these energy companies, even post mortem, track down the money and pull the money back to fund the clean up. Energy companies shouldn't be allowed to dissolve for any reason without executives being forced to fund the cleanup.

    It's plain to see these wells can't be left to the elements so I'd expect more problems as time passes with all of them. What happens when a large hurricane...earthquakes or other disasters hits a area. Need to find a way to protect them from eroding more and more year after year.

    They didn’t go a few miles off shore. I am from anahuac and those rigs are in jacks pockets which is right next to ft anahuac park the birth place of the Texas revolution. Maybe 2000ft offshore. My whole family still lives there right on the bay and as kids we would swim in the bay and it’s got an oil sludge over the sand mix with old asbestos shingles from hurricane back in the day. My grandpa brother and I spent years during the winter when the water is out to pull all the old tires out of the water. That’s also a hugely popular fishing spot literally at the mouth of the trinity river.

    I've fished at these wells they are showing. Great fishing but they are definitely a problem. There is also a lot of pipelines below that have turned into artificial reefs. Thats why we fish there.
