His mother died giving birth to his little brother, his dad died a few years later, his relatives abandoned him in an orphanage rather than care for him, he had to raise his brother alone, had to force some jackass to adopt him and give up his own childhood to get a better life for his brother, had to forcefully take over his adoptive fathers company and fight off his old board of directors and run a successful business while also attending school and protecting his brother from some crazy eqyptian magic
True, he is one of the best rivals and antiheroes. I think people often focus only on his rude attitude. He worked hard to reach what he is today. By looking into his past we can understand his obsession to be number 1 in everything and his selfish behavior most of the time.
Not to mention he was so obsessed with dueling Atem that he went into the Egyptian afterlife, not knowing if he had a way of returning. His obsession killed him most likely

Hes the reason ive watched it. I liked him from the beginning, but the reason hes my favourite is the second duel against yugi in season 1. He doesnt care about the win or his Firma he even doesnt care about his own life he take the risk to die just to save mokuba. That shows he has a good heart. Its hidden but its there from this moment on this whole series was a seto kaiba show.

He's the character with all the insecurities, who despite having all the wealth and fame he could have ever wanted, really just wanted friends, even if he was loath to admit it. Kaiba on the other hand was pretty much just a walking ego. He had a soft spot for Mokuba and an obsession with Yugi, but that's about limit of his emotional range.
It's always nice to watch the true king of games in action! Without Seto everyone in Domino City would probably play chess or backgammon or simply be bored to death...
and lets not forget that if it wasnt for kaiba yugi would have been a nobody for quite a while. the only reason he got recognized at first was for beating kaiba. he might have become known after winning the first tournament though, assuming pegasus would have been able to find him when yugi was still a nobody that pegasus had never heard of.... still kaiba is waaaaaay cooler than yugi and his geek friends. a fabulous shimmer, a glow in your heart, im glitter lucky.
