You'll also find my other playlists. You may enjoy the Oral Reading series. Work backwards. The earlier texts are likely too easy for you, though you can always jump immediately to the fourth and final reading since it's the fastest and most natural. :)

Hey Jason. Glad to see you made it to Day 20! Thanks for all your comments and observations. Yes, in this final speech sample I wanted to include some very informal structures learners will hear from native speakers. The reporting clause "I was like" in place of I SAID, I ASKED, or I THOUGHT is quite common, and it can not only be hard to catch, but hard to understand as well.

Machine gun fire of 20 rounds. There final wrapping piece was a classic. Before you absorb one, the next is already on the table.. unusual, much in demand subject. A boon for those who know English only as a second language. they have difficulty following what is said by native speakers..

Yes, the speech can be quite fast, but if you listen several times, you can train your ears to catch the words. There's more practice on my website: Students > Fast Speech. You can use the Oral Reading Fluency texts for listening practice too. Start with the slow version and then move to the faster one. Warm regards to you all!

So enter is ener. dropped the T
My guess is that most American English speaker DON'T drop the T in enter, but it's possible that you'll hear the T dropped. The more frequent pattern is to drop the T in words with the prefix INTER- (international, internet, etc.) I also hear people drop the T in "center" quite often, especially in phrases like "city center" or "the center of the city."
Remember the goal of my series is to train your ears to hear fast English. Some of the patterns are more common in informal speech.

It's very helpful to have a resource for reviewing how to offer students strategies for interpreting what is being said when the words they learned are "hidden" or obscured from their pure, isolated form! :-)
I'm sure I speak on behalf of all TESOL students like myself and English language learners who are struggling with making sense of how to interpret "fast speech" having never been taught the difference between the words they learned in class and those heard in social or work settings where "fast" speech rules the day!

Hello! I'm glad you appreciated my attempt to recall some moves from pandango sa ilaw. I also learned the binasuan. My favorite was probably tinikling, but I think my legs are too old now to handle that fast jumping! The trickier challenge was singkil because you have the poles and the fans to work with. :) I miss that time when I was dancing each week. Warm regards!

Hi. Jennifer, very nice 20 day challenge! I have all these things in my mind when I speak. Most of the time I don't realize I drop the letters, or connect the words. My students don't understand. Recently, I used a phrase in a sentence "The are better than us." The final two words seemed like a new word to the students "They nus". I explained linking to them.
