  • Continuing my microlight flexwing training with East of Scotland Microlights, now on my 10th flight, had one where I forgot to start the camera, then one with it recording, but as you'll see in the intro, the compass rather got in the way. So here we are, 2nd lesson in the art of taking off, joining and flying the circuit, and of course, landings. Everything is optional except landing!
As I'm now in a syndicate and not using my instructor's plane, it's headcam for now while we go through the paperwork with the BMAA to get a wing camera fitted to this one...
Again, many thanks to my instructor, Graeme, at East of Scotland Microlights for all his help, guidance and constant encouragement!

Great video, pal. Very interesting and brilliant for anyone thinking of trying microlighting! Well done!

Thankyou! It's a fantastic sport - if even one person takes the plunge and decides to try it, even once, encouraged in any way by any of my videos I would be absolutely delighted!

What are the different characteristics with the GT450 compared to the QuikR ( I think it was a QuikR) you started on?

The only different is in the wing - engine & everything is the same, apart from the wing - GT450 wing is great for short take-offs, much more easy in slow speed, but slower once flying - the QuikR has a higher trim speed that the GT450. I started in the QuikR and changing to the GT450 - the GT450 is more quick to react at low speeds on landing, the QuikR is a bit like a bus on landing compared to a car for the GT450 if that makes sense? The GT450 wing doesn't need to be trimmed for turning at speed as the QuikR wing does, but again, over a distance, the QuikR will be faster.

@@InducedBank That makes sense, thank you, any difference in turbulence?

@@johnmackay5288 Not a huge difference in turbulence - similar wing size, similar weight, and therefore similar wing loading, so similar in turbulence. The GT450 wing does have slightly lighter roll control input forces - i.e. it's easier to put it into and out of a turn - however that does mean it is a little bit more lively in the bumps, but not by much to be honest.

@@InducedBank ..thanks again, final question..honest..when you say the QuikR cruises faster, is it 5-10kts or more? I assume it’s for the same fuel burn?

@@johnmackay5288 www.pmaviation.co.uk/quikr-ouraircraftdetails.html & www.pmaviation.co.uk/gt450-ouraircraftdetails.html at min weight the GT450 top trim speed is 80mph and the QuikR is 100 - although it's very, err, lively at that speed!
