    Seen em over 800 horsepower stock bottom end. And if you blow it up? You got the junkyard and get another one for 500 bucks and do it again. The Vortec engines LOVE top end mods. Cam, intake, Head and springs. Easy 600 horse combo just doing that and there been many times where a cam alone picks up 100 horsepower putting you into 300 WHEEL horsepower range with ONE bolt on. Another thing to mention is when doing a swap fuel pump is first thing that's going to need to happen!

      @Angel Camacho right he said a whole bunch of parts that are weak points in the 5.3 but they're only weak points in a moded motor. Stock 5.3 the parts he listed are bulletproof like Dr. Westside was saying. GM did an amazing job with the 5.3. I've got one with 230k on it and it's still a STRONG motor. They engineered the parts to work within the parameters of the stock application and tune and you can punish it at this level with no concern

    only thing i’d change is the oil pump. i’d say pick up a high volume oil pump instead of a high pressure. LS doesn’t need high pressure until you get into built heads. high volume helps with the overall cooling and lubrication of upgrades.

    • @katieneubaum4284
      @katieneubaum4284 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep, I agree, and even then unless you’re going with forced induction you can get away with just a high volume pump. Stock pressure is sufficient for the vast majority of NA builds

      @YesMan-vn4vu ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@Lost4words the entire top end needs to be reworked before it’ll even start to need bottom end work. Those rods and pistons are still good for close to 600 whp before they become an issue and the entire top end is going to need to be done before you will get that out of it

    • @soulcapitalist6204
      @soulcapitalist6204 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This sounds like boost prep. You will probably not make gains from this or really save $ imo.
      Head and cam with nitrous is still the budget king with chevy small blocks. LS can go far with stock intakes and work on factory heads. When you are making 7-800hp, you may think about checking the ring gap and running a solid tuning system, but you still don't need forged pistons or rods.

I personally just got done ultrasonically cleaning & rebuilding the original fuel injectors for it and they all work & flow great . New O-rings & basket filters too , also did the knock sensors & wire harness / intake manifold & throttle body cleaned with new intake manifold gaskets . New Valve cover gaskets. New spark plugs & plug wires . All cylinders have 200psi according to my tool ( not sure if psi is correct but they are all even that’s what’s important. ) changed the engine oil & filter . flushed the coolant system . Runs like a top . It did have the transmission rebuilt @180k if I remember correctly. but I definitely want to give it some more love like get a new oil pump & O-ring for the pick up tube . & other things that will help with longevity rather then performance. Speaking of performance just headers would be nice & cat delete with muffler delete ( keep resonator ?

    Hey, just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your videos. I'm specifically talking about the 5.3 LS engine. I don't know if you give this kind of advice but I'm a beginner novice and someday hopefully this year I'm looking to build my own muscle car.
    In the industrial park that I work in I found out a month ago that the Camaro club was moving in. This Camaro club allows all cars as well as Camaros in their club and it only cost $25 a year. I've always been a muscle car enthusiast and thought this was a sign for me to start getting my own muscle car.
    I would like to find a rolling chassis for a 71 to 73 Camaro to build. I would like to put a 5.3 LS 3 Gen in that with a Whipple supercharger if I can afford it lol. I also am a fan of the tremec 6-speed transmission. I'm not looking for something that can do massive burnouts or anything like that but what I am looking for is something that can travel to shows on the highway, as long-lasting and durable, and when I hit second gear or a third year and drop the hammer not a lot can touch me. What do you recommend as far as the engine, supercharger, transmission and rear end? Do the ones I have picked out work? I was also thinking about tubing out the rear end. Any input would be appreciated.
    Ultimately, I'd like to have a 5.3 LS with at least 550 HP that is all engine but if I have to at a supercharger to it I would prefer a supercharger over a blower just because I've had bad experiences with blowers when I was younger. I would like this to be a long-lasting durable engine that I can wrench on myself most of the time and of course all of this is on a poor man's budget :-). Since by the time the Camaro club will move into their new home toward the mid or end of summer I would like to start working on this car if possible or at least the main components by the end of summer.
    I've been watching many great videos specifically about 5.3 LS 3 gens and I found some great information but I just am trying to see how much it would cost to get that engine to 550 horsepower, will it work well with a 6-speed transmission, what type of rear end and list of costs for the parts that I would need for my project. If the parts are in good shape I can also do used.
    Thank you very much and I hope you keep making great content.

      Get new valves, rockers, rocker supports and lifters before you ever consider bottom end work. If you are putting it in a truck Texas comp makes a solid cam that gives you solid low end torque instead of the usual cam that doesn’t wake up until 3 grand or better… really just get some better heads like ls3 heads or something if your going cheap

    • @YesMan-vn4vu
      @YesMan-vn4vu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@earlwheeler5323 depends on how much power you are trying to get out of it and if you want it boosted or not. I see a lot of guys throwing a pro charger on that stock setup with a tune and getting another 100-150 out of it. With that being said when I started I started with a good cam, valve springs, exhaust and intake (not manifold just filter with a better ram) and a proper dyno tune. Kept it the most reliable while still making a lot more power. Sounded much better, revved a little higher and was still far more street-able. If you do a lot of canyon racing and aren’t just using it to cruise around or do occasional pulls throw a dry sump in it too otherwise you will starve the engine for oil. Don’t just upgrade the oil pump if turning under a lot of gs do a proper dry sump setup. They aren’t hard to get into since many corvettes come with them if your doesn’t have it already.

    • @YesMan-vn4vu
      @YesMan-vn4vu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@earlwheeler5323 if you want a little more, do the cam, valve springs, rocker supports and possibly lighter valves, exhaust, intake plus bigger throttle body. Those stock intake manifolds are pretty good if you know how to work with them but a filter and air ram will be fine. Plus a proper dyno tune. Always tune that will always do the most for you. You can even just get close to 30hp more from a decent tune without changing a thing on the engine.

I have some long tube headers and series 10 Flowmaster exhaust with a performance throttle body and let me tell you again this engine can take a beating. To me it’s very reliable and it hasn’t still let me down sense 2009 that i’ve had it, I also have a 2019 Denali with a 6.2 and I don’t feel like it will hang in with my small block 4.8. I already had to change my lifters and push rods 🤦‍♂️
