Bach-Siloti Adagio from Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord (James Barbagallo Pianist)

These wonderful recordings are part of a project to produce an album of Bach-Siloti transcriptions. Tragically, the Pianist James Barbagallo died unexpectedly before the project was completed. Recorded in December of 1995.
This Bach-Siloti transcription is one of my favorites. It is derived from Bach's Sonata No. 5 in f minor for Violin and Harpsichord (BWV 1018). The tempo used here is significantly faster then the 1/8th note = 60 marked by Siloti and creates a wonderfully different sounding piece. Utube does have other recordings of this transcription with tempo closer to Siloti's markings that can be used for comparison. I love both interpretations. A special version of this recording has been uploaded at • Video which has the tempo electronically slowed down to Siloti's markings for comparison.
