I've tried it and tried to like it. I really did! When it hit the market, I grabbed a half dozen packs, excited to try it... I was soon disappointed.
It is not a suitable substitute for the real deal.
It does not have the same action as bucktail (bucktails becomes super limp when wet), it's slippery and more importantly, it is not Hollow/Collapsible like bucktail.
There are definitely applications for this product. I don't mean to bash it. I use flymen products very regularly!
Probably the best application I've found is Weed Guards! Use this instead of a mono loop.
Also good to use to prevent super soft material from wrapping around the hook bend. (Again, traditionally done with a mono loop).

The more I see fly's tied with this material it confirms the material is far to stiff to create movement as the fly is on the drop

The Faux Bucktail fiber is the same diameter and taper as regular bucktail so although the fibers are a little stiffer, we feel confident if you try it you will find the movement and flexibility is very similar.

What is the benefit of using faux bucktail instead of real bucktail in This particular fly?
