Seriously, the gripes that people had made me nervous about watching this movie but as soon as I did, I only regret that I didnt watch it sooner. This movie was AMAZING. And izogie was my favorite character.
This film has nothing to do with real African history. Its another feminist nonsense movie for the half witted African American audience who lap up this silliness.
If that’s what you got from the movie, they have accomplished their goal. Black people looking at movies don’t stop to think about the message they’re promoting. I love this movie. It was great acting and a great story. No matter if it's correct or not. We need more positive stories and more representation movies. Now, where is the Nate Turner movie.
The Dahomey were a horrific regime that caused unspeakable terror and suffering. There are incredible stories of TRUE heros who fought against injustice and oppression. This was not in. They should be treated similarly to other groups that we quite rightly villainise. Not caring if it is true or not undermines the suffering of those who suffered under their hand. This was shown in the movie. It literally opened up with them capturing another tribe. Some of the women they kept, and they sold the rest into slavery.

The acting was passionate and pretty top tier but for me the historical inaccuracies were quite perplexing. I've studied this era of history to ensure we shine a light on the horrors that were perpetrated. A lot of this was reading accounts of people who were enslaved by the Dahomey. I was rather startled when i heard that they had made a film about such a horrific regime. Can you tell me how you would have written it correctly?
People don't understand that a group of people can change their mindset overtime. If they watched the movie, their King has a conversation with his Portuguese settler and explains how his kingdom is unprotected. In order to protect his kingdom, it seems, they sold their enemies into slavery to protect their kingdom.
Was skeptical about watching this movie but I glad I did I'm very much please an rate this movie an 8 out of 10 but ending was to predictable for me else I would of given it a 9
