Also if it were pronounced "R-A-den" then it would be Reiden. With Japanese romanization Ai makes an I sound and Ei makes an A sound. It's very strange because the Japanese language uses a completely different letter system, but they are very strict with their vowels.

I like how people are all like it's pronounced "Rie-den" or "Ray-den" and they argue about that, but then all the other asian based names are just whatever horrible english pronunciation that people accept them as.
Kung Lao, Shang Tsun etc. The way they say it makes me cringe.
Or I'm asian and care about my culture. It's not like a hate them or blame them, language is a difficult thing. And I can assure you that I am not a bundle of stick, thank you very much.

AnBeiHuang I prefer "Rie-den" to "Ray-den", but then again, I also think there's no problem with the other pronunciations. I'd much rather say "Shirai Rie-yu" than "Shirai Ree-yu" (the former just sounds better in my opinion).
AnBeiHuang For me, it just depends on the character in question. _"Rie-den"_ is the Metal Gear character, while _"Ray-den"_ is the Mortal Kombat character.
mgonepro87 It's really a matter of language canon vs game canon. Since Raiden is an actual Japanese god of thunder and lightning, it's technically "rie-den" if you want to be culturally accurate. But the game has always used "ray" because it's American produced- so they don't pronounce it right.
It's mostly because I've grown up speaking chinese in my household, and learning japanese for a very long time -that these "americanized" pronunciations just sounds really strange to me. I'm not hating on anyone, i totally understand the difficulty. It's just sounds weird since I'm not used to it.
