Me and my bro both teared up during the ballroom scene. It was great but I feel it does depend on part 2. That needs to be a showstopping second part and then this movie will be elevated.
I agree! Lots of payoff to come from part two. I think the second act suffered a little bit from some extra character and world building that didn't feel entirely necessary for this part of the story. If part two shows how necessary those aspects were to the overall narrative, then that critique of mine will fall away 😁
I don't understand what portions of the film you are referring to when you say "Act 2". I don't think the film is too long. I find it exuberant rather than self indulgent. It is celebrating the fan base's appreciation, certainly. I love musicals. But I am not a particular fan of Wicked until THIS film version. (For a self indulgent film, I'd refer to the Judy Garland version of A Star Is Born.)
I just feel like the film drags it's feet a little in the middle and could have done with a few cuts in terms of the length of some of the less iconic music numbers to make way for a slightly faster paced plot. The third act is such a breath of fresh air though.. and is arguably one of the best of any film i have seen this year. I just felt it took us a little too long to get there, as we lingered a touch too long in one place or another for the sake of showing something that didn't feel wholly necessary. I do think that John M Chu is such a good director though that it will probably all prove to be important for setting up part 2... so it's a double edged sword when trying to judge a two-part film. Ultimately, I am nitpicking here to be honest 🤣. The movie as a whole is awesome and I can't wait for part 2!
Amen to that... What a visually stunning and well portrayed world Jon M Chu was able to present! Cut off 20 mins of the run time for me and it would be perfection :)
Yes and no because the book is so lore heavy that if they rely on the book it will be alright! The Broadway musical removed a loooot of the book actually
I agree that the film was a little too long. But what does one cut ? If you ask 1000 film editors you would get 1000 different cuts. Every scene was excellent, so it becomes very subjective and a matter of personal opinion what cuts to make.
Very true! That's why editing is such an art 😁 I just think some sequences in the second act dragged on a little and there's probably around 15 mins that could be left out. That being said... i don't know what is to come in part 2, so things i felt could be glossed over may be critical to the future plot... thats also why its so hard to judge a part 1 in isolation 🙊 Either way... im excited for what comes next 😁
Wicked fans will def enjoy this a must for them.!!
Couldn't agree more! This is a real deep dive into the world of Wicked and the Oz Universe! 😁
They don’t try to outshine each other yet they both shine just perfectly, equally
So much shine! 🙊
Glad they used two broadway actresses for the leads 🎉
And it pays off! The vocal performances are incredible in this! :)

Literally cried during the same scene had me questioning my gangster 😅

No shame there... mad respect 😛😎
Need badly part 2 ☺️🤧
Can't wait! Have you seen the Broadway play? 🙊
YES!
Wicked is ALMOST Perfect indeed.
This is why I gave the film a rated 9/10
I hope Wicked Part 2 would make me give a perfect 10/10 next year.
I think if part two is done as well as we all hope... then it will probably make them a 10/10 when you combine the two 😁! Fingers crossed 🙊
I can't believe how much I enjoyed this film. Definitely much more than I thought I would!

Lol, it's the longest intermission ever 😅
You can say that again! :P At least they end it in a good place and on a high though! :)

That's fair! Maybe part two will make everything jn the second act feel more necessary for me ☺️
That's why we need part 2 lol😆
Exactly! 😁 its so hard to judge a film on part one alone 🙊
Not almost perfect but very perfect
I'm glad you love it 😁
@@WhatsPoppingBruce It is the best musical movie since Evita(1996),La La Land(2012),The Greatest Showman(2019) and Barbie(2023).
Hard to argue with that! Such a great time in the cinema 😁
I don't think you can call the most successful Broadway musical of all-time a "cult classic" LOL
This is true :') It is just sooo good and the fanbase is so intense that the following can sometimes feel "cultish"! In the best possible way :P
@@WhatsPoppingBruce and so were the fans of Phantom of the Opera; Les Miserables; Hamilton; Rent; Moulin Rouge; and on and on
True! The fanbases are strong 😁
