I used to have a girl friend and she would have friend with unkept hair that hung out with her occasionally. I guess that’s why that friend with the unkept hair had no man!!!

We now have indoor bathrooms, running water, a/c, cars, computers, cell phones, etc. And we should have better sense to know the difference between then and now.

I was just abt to say the same thing. Lucy wasn't walking around looking like she ain't washed her a*s or brushed her teeth. And she wasn't wearing her house shoes in the street! And like someone else said there's also a huge difference between a bonnet and a hat. Even wearing a scarf is a better option than walking outside in a bonnet.

She needs to watch those shows because those were not bonnets those were out door head covers. They did not wear their night bonnets outside 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ My great grandmother and grandmothers wore silk scarves over their heads when they went out to keep their hair in place and taught my mother, aunts, sisters, cousins, and myself the same thing. So now with certain styles if it’s windy or cold we drape a scarf over our heads and they get tied beneath our chin and it gets removed when we enter a building. Just as a man suppose to remove their hats or caps when they enter a building. It’s called etiquette and I have taught my daughter and am teaching my granddaughters as well. And their father taught our sons and now our grandsons as well.

Women living on the prairie in the 1800's were riding around on uncovered wagons, the wind was terrible on their hair. Today women are in covered cars, buses and trains. As for I love Lucy (women in the 50's) wore bonnets to bed only, usually with a set rollers or pin curls in their hair. There's a difference.

I wore a bonnet 2-3 times only because I didn't have anything else to wear. I have cancer, I didn't care what others thought but for me I still felt uncomfortable. I haven't worn it since but now I have a cap to wear.

I had to snatch my niece from the bonnet nation after one drive to the Walmart. Had to put the fear of her GrandMa! to make sure she didn't do that again!🤨
I don’t know why head scarfs and wraps are not more widely used. There are silk and satin versions. You can even wear a satin durag and then tie a regular scarf on top. They look neat and presentable and come in various colors to match your outfit. You can also vary the way you style the scarf with tutorials on TH-cam. I do this and I wish more of us would look into scarves as an option.
Instead of wearing a bonnet why not wear a headwrap??!! It's a way to "elevate" your personal style. I keep a crochet hat, beanie, and headwrap in my car to keep my hair covered, when I go out.
Great idea, but how about we just do our hair? How about that and wear our hair? It’s so funny. I’m a 70s baby and 80s. This was never an issue. We just went outside with our hair done.
@@siobhancooper4717 Wearing headwraps doesn't automatically mean that a woman's hair in unkempt. I'm outside, in wooded areas a lot. I cover my hair to protect it from insects, dust, and other things that I might not see.
Alao, everyone doesn't have the capacity to "do their hair." Some women have mobility challenges that limits their ability to style their hair every day. For women in warmer climates, protecting hair from humidity is another reason why headwraps and others coverings are used.
Even in the time period where people wore bonnets outside, they were fashion bonnets that matched their clothes, and they differed from the bonnet they slept in.

I'm so thankful my mom didn't raise me and my siblings like that. My mama made sure we were class every day from head to toe so of course it followed me into my adult hood. You don't ever walk out of the house without washing your a$$ and cookies😂😂😂 a$$ and cookies are 2 separate things according to my mama. Some people just don't know any better what's looks like a nasty mess to us looks fine to them.
