We are gather here today for the going home service for Jamaal … His life was cut short by a deep extension cord laceration across his throat.. He passed away in route to hospital.. I remember I was 12 years old selling candy in school. I needed $5 to buy some more. I asked my mom she said no, but i knew where she kept her loose change. I took a $20 and left a note. By noon I sold all the candy I had bought, made about $60. I was on cloud 9. Got called to the principal's office. My mom was there with fire in her eyes. She told the principal, "He'll be right back!" Worst whooping I ever got. On top of that, she took all the money, I still had to go back to school, and once I got home a punishment was waiting. My son resisted as much as he could but today he's an engineer at Microsoft, my daughter employed with a major law firm. My older brother use to steal money out my Grandmother's account and up out her purse when she was living smh stole from my Grandfather too after raising us. All this happened between 2002 through 2013, not only that he would keep her car out for 2 weeks and won't answer his phone "saying" it was dead smfh. My Grandmother had to call other people just to take her to her doctor appointments and grocery store. I'm quiet nature and God fearing it's hard for me to get pissed off so oneday he got mad and decided to test me after since he thought I wouldn't do anything. Let's just say all my frustration came out from all the years on how he did my Grandparents God rest there souls 🙏🏽🕊🕊 I played semi pro football and I'm a fitness trainer that do roofing and he felt every bit of my strength, work, ethic, and anger. I don't play when it comes to Family, love ones, and people who can't protect themselves

My mom could stop nonsense 100 miles away with “the look.” She was a school teacher, then a high school principal, and she has always been able to effectively wield “the look” at anyone younger than her committing foolishness and end it right there. I have always had a friendship with my mom, but not a PEER type of friendship. She, and my dad too, have always been “in charge.” They are great parents and always put loving me over having me like them. I remember when I was about 6 or 8, I took pennies. Mind you, I said pennies from my mom's old purse. Had a mouth full of bubble gum, the next thing I knew, I was 59, had gotten married, had kids, I don't remember any of it. 😂😂😂😂 This is all I know. At this age, I don't get anything from my mother's purse unless she allows me to. Yup!
I'm 26, soon to be 27 this month. My mom is 66 and my dad was 82, and I can tell you I was raised the old school way. Ain't no way in hell I would've had the bravery to do this. I would not be breathing today. These young people in my generation and these kids are doing wayyyyy too much for me!

My youngest tried me a couple of times until she found out momma got hands and they're rated E for Everybody!!! I gave her the business one time & that put an end to her trying me. I used to manage a check cashing store. One co-worker, who knew her son was a thorough delinquent allowed him to come into the caged area to use the bathroom. She never even thought to lock the big safe, which was also in the bathroom. He pocketed 10k, kissed and kiki’d with his mom for a minute and walked right out the front door without a thought for his mom, or an ounce of regret.
This kind of situation would have gone above my parents head. My grandmother would have partially unlived me for no reason whatsoever. When I asked "why?" she would have said "She don't know yet but God told her I was about to do some nonsense".

I graduated in 83. I had a black friend that did this. She took much more than $2,000. There were repercussions for her. I had a white classmate that took her mother’s credit card and used it also. I am not sure how that was handled. I know that because of her rebelliousness her mom locked her in her room for days. She would try to complain about it to school personnel and they just told her that she should stop being so bad.

I have conversations with my children about consequences and responsibilities, and I speak to them as if they are my peers, because one day they will grow older, as one is already an adult.

But the one thing I refuse to do to my children is instill fear in them. I instill respect.

My parents adopted two former Foster toddlers while they were senior citizens. They are teenagers now and my father died 6 months ago. The older one stole my father's credit card right after he died and bought restaurant and fast food for their friends for over a month. The total was over $1,900.
When my father was alive she was attempting doordash and Uber Eats until his card was declined. The day we took the card from her she had just bought $30 worth of McDonald's for her and her sister. The average cost of the meals she was buying for her friends was between 50 and $90 a day. My brothers and I wanted my mother to kick them out but she let them stay. She is old and told my brother they're not stealing as much as they used to. We barely speak to them. They are entitled spoiled and ungrateful. If this was us my mother would have killed us. These kids nowadays are different. I asked my siblings who is this woman and where did our mother go?

One of my brothers and I check on her as well as my aunt. My siblings and I have contacted both child protective services and Adult Protective Services. They basically told us that there was nothing we could do because they are not physically harming her. The agency does not want to be involved or do their job. It's very frustrating.

I remember my father gave me a $20 instead of a $5 for lunch, he was sleeping since he was working late. I asked if he was sure, he said yeah man! I started to walk out of his room...he said hey hey how much did I give you? I said ummm, he said come here. He whacked me in the back of the head and told me not fool around, gave me a $5, then said bring me back my change. I suspect someone told this young man that credit cards have purchase protection. All his mother would have to do is say "No, I didn't make these purchases," and she would get her money back. The part no one told him was that they will find and prosecute the person who did make the purchases. Mine would be in juvie, plain and simple.

I was raised by my grandparents and my mom. Back then in the 80’s there was no asking me twice to do anything because I knew better. I never talked back or interrupted their conversations . Hi Schuler, I have to say something on this beautiful sun shine say in California. First, I am older than this kid, his momma, and you too. When I was coming up, parents began teaching and rearing before you were off the bottle. They weren't weak and didn't mind showing you they weren't. You were taught to respect them, your elders and yourself.

I remember training my daughter at 3 1/2 to keep her hand on the buggy at all times while I’m in the store. My husband worked over night shifts a lot. When he finally went to the store with her by himself he was wondering what I did to her. He said I almost had to wrestle the buggy from her hands lol. She wouldn’t let go for nothing lol 😂. Well at least until he reached the car. She took off running through Walmart one day and was hiding on a shelf. Let’s just say she learned her lesson after that lol 😂. All I have to do is give a look and not very often.

Parents need to lead by example and hold themselves accountable. If you're having kids out of wedlock, sleeping with bums with bad genes, and not vetting your partner then don't be surprised if children mirror your actions. Kids being friends with their parents is not even in the top 10 problems with the modern black family unit(if you can even call it that now).

Someone may have said this already, but the girl and her family are just as complicit, if this is even true. Whenever something was stolen from my children at school I always wondered what parent let's their child keep something that they know they didn't purchase?!
