    I agree, they should make the screen bigger. It looks out of proportion with that small screen.

    Man the Arcade1up partycades are the way to go. 17 inch monitor and can mount to your wall or sit on a counter. I think they’re 200, but that price is bound to drop like the full size versions.

      NO! NO! NO!
      First, it has the wrong controls for Americans. SI was not released with a joystick in the US.
      Second, no pepper's ghost effect.
      Third, this tiny particle board cabinet with digital simply cannot reproduce the sound of the analog sound circuits and real wood construction of the original arcade cabinet.
      Furthermore, 200 Dollars for 2 games? It should at least have the option to add games via an expansion slot where you could buy special encrypted cards with additional games you could decide on.
      If I bought one of these, it would be to strip the computer parts out and put in a more powerful emulator board in it.

      Those are the new gen 2 countercades. They are a lot smaller and cheaper. I think they solved the 'small screen' problem the wrong way. They decided to, instead of making the screen bigger, shrunk the rest of the cabinet.

    I picked up the Galaga one on the shelf at Target yesterday. I have the full size Arcade 1 Up Mortal Kombat which I paid 299.00 for. Putting these two next to each other the Counter Cade should be more then just 100.00 less then the 3/4 size Arcade 1 up. The Counter Cade at most should be 100.00 dollars. I wouldn't feel too bad about an $80 price on this. And you know, it's possible that you're getting the wave 2 version; this is a phase one in this review. I just got the Dig Dug version counter cade today and it looks fantastic and plays really well but just like the Party Cade it has some sound issues. Thankfully it's not as bad Galaga in the Party Cade and the intro music isn't garbled but you can hear it when you stop and move. The music in Dig Dug plays along with the movements and it will get garbled pretty frequently but it's not that bad but it's still there and it noticeable to anyone that knows what the game is supposed to sound like. I only paid 99 for mine and honestly that one little gripe doesn't make me dislike it. Excellent review btw!

    Just bought mine. Made sure not to pay over $99 because of advice in this video. I agree with Jon that it is a fun looking cabinet. My control stick is a bit wably on the up and down motion. Um, Space Invaders does not HAVE an up and down function, LOL! He is correct that the screen is too small. Mine does not have flaws in the cabinet (at least not that I have noticed yet). I'm going to try to mod it. Just received the marquee from ebay. Did not realize that they come in a flexible film. I'm going to have to attach it to a peice of glass or plexi with lights behind it. Im hoping to use a rasberi pi. Totally new to this rasbery pi stuff but it seems that this is the way to go to get extra games into one cabinet (AND a larger screen!). I dont want to loose the artwork that goes around the screen so I'm going to try to take a bit of the paint off of the factory plexiglass cover then add a slightly larger monitor. Never really done this sort of thing before.

    Arcade1up does not get enough credit for the graphics they put on their cabs. I got one of their 3/4 Space Invaders cabinets to convert into a multicade(because it was insanely cheap), and originally intended to get new custom graphics for the sideart, marquee, and kickplate because it just looked so meh in the photos... Then I got the cab and saw the graphics with my own two eyes. HOOOOOOLY CRAP does it look good. So I kept it. Only had to give up control panel and bezel art due to the mature of my conversion project.
    There is some justifiable criticism about Arcade1up(one of them is the reason the Space Invaders cabs, both of them, are so cheap now). But there are two things we have to give them: They take the criticism and sue it to improve their product, and they actually understand BETTER than us what we want in the graphics.

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm more than inclined to agree with you, FormulaFox. The artwork is great on pretty much all these units: the Ms. Pac-Man coming later this year looks particularly nice. I know they had some trouble with artwork durability on the control decks early on (and they now include clear acrylic covers for them), but that's just nitpicking at this point.

    For $200 you’d think it would include the background effect that the original had. I mean if My Arcade could do it in there’s for $50 the surely Arcade1Up could of added it in. At least then the $200 might be a little more reasonable. Just my opinion.

      Really, Roger? That doesn't sound right -- not with this type of display, anyhow, Certainly there were later iterations with genuine color, but they didn't follow the color banding model. Which ROM are you referencing? I'd like to have a look. This seems to be a MAME-type overlap color simulation using the same spaceinv ROMset.

    In March of 2022, I don't think they can be purchased new found anymore. If you could get one for $200 or less, think of it more as a DIY tabletop cab. Pull out all the electronics, including its undersize LCD screen, and put in a Raspberry Pi. Maybe even add some more controls... I make this suggestion because trying to find DIY cabs (no electronics) tend to be over $300. :)

      The first wave Countercades were quickly replaced with a second wave which were housed in smaller cabinets, making the small screen not so small relative to the body of the unit. Most of those went on heavy clearance a year or so ago, though.

    Look very nice but I'm disappointed how small the screen is on that huge thing. That's the only thing stops me from buying it is that screen size. It's way too small. I wished they would sell them without the screen, this way we can put our own monitor inside of it for a much cheaper price then paying the cost for a overpriced screen they sell it for. That's the bad thing about it, they charge double or 3 times more then what the screen is worth.

      @GenXGrownUp  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keep an eye out for the new models, Darill. The screen is the same, but the overall device is smaller, increasing the screen-to-body ratio. Those look much nicer and I think are about half the price of this first wave.

    100% accurate??? The correct experience??? Not at all.
    The Invader death sound effect is wrong (it wasn't a repeated indentical sample, each invader death was a unique sound).
    The original had buttons to control the players ship, not a joystick.
    The original game was 'back projected' onto a mirror and appeared in front of a moon and space background that was lit up in UV.
    The original had an 8" speaker that when turned up, the bass of the marching sounds shook the cabinet.
    To anyone who actually played and remembers the original Midway and Taito versions, this is a very poor miniature copy.
