This video... It recindeled my love for the spy. It introduced me to the "spy community". It introduced me to Ratatat. It introduced me to you Stabby. It's funny and impressive. It lights my imagination on fire, and makes my fingers itch for some Team Fortress 2.
I've got 96 hours as Spy (coming in second is Scout at 14 hours), yet I have never been able to surprise people as well as this. You sir deserve a Saxxy.
I've always wondered which class would be most power in the hands of someone omniscient. Clearly the answer is spy. You're awesome. Thanks for the videos.
Well the trick would be to begin to chase him up the stairs for a moment, then immediately backpedal so that he falls in front of you if he attempts a stair stab. If you don't chase him at all he'll just get away, but if you pretend to chase him you might get a chance to kill him.
Just don't chase a spy up stairs, period, without juking them out. Or rush around corners after them. Or run straight at them. Or chase them up an incline. ...just...don't chase spies...anywhere...ever.
Better note to self...if you ever see stabby, take a screenshot with him....leave the server period.....unless you want to get dominated the whole game
haha its true, this guys cornerstabs are AMAZING. Ive been watching ur vids for a few days, and i can honestly say since watching them I've become a MUCH better spy and my percentage of successful trickstabs has more than doubled. Thanks so much for these vids, liked and subscribed!
So damn hard to play Spy when u lag like crud. I can barley even lift out my DR and run away when there are more than 1 person chasing me... Ugh. Struggles.
@Xaladinify I intend to make vids of uncut lives with annotations for the foreseeable future. I made an exception for the occasion this time :) The last vid posted (Spawn Trolling) was missing annotations because I didn't feel there was much more to say than "heh."
You're absolutely right. A good spy needs lot of map awareness/knowledge. That doesn't away from the fact he's still a ridiculously good spy when you take away his map knowledge. ;)
The artist is ratatat if you're interested. I'm not sure which song, but they have a pretty epic discography. if you like the song i recommend you check them out
I enjoy your videos, and you amaze me in so many ways. The part where you got a bunch of headshots with the Ambassador when the enemy team was going for you amazed me. I've only been able to get a headshot kill once in an actual combat situation. It was a Demoknight/medic pair attacking us on Viaduct. When the demo attacked me, I thought I was gonna die, so I took out the Ambassador and started shooting. About 30 seconds later (felt like an hour) I end up getting a headshot on him, killing him!
I love it when people like the scout at the end get annoyed because you keep killing them, so they hunt you down and think they've killed you, proceed to taunt and then you decloak and kill them xD
Time flies by, You have entertained us to the bottom of our hearts, You have brought joy to me as a spy, We will be here for your 200days of spy montage, Of that you can count on it :D VIVE LA REVOLUTION!
@sergeyerror I'm using the Saharan Set for a good chunk of the video. Otherwise it's very noisy or I've picked the person out as listening to music/hearing impaired/stupid/etc. I try to keep track of who does and doesn't react to decloaks.
My cornerstabbing has become pretty good just by watching your vids, they help alot when wanting to be a better spy. I like to use Invis watch with the kunai and the l'etranger. I think that the l'etranger is a good weapon since it can fill your cloak gauge when you need it. Anyway you're awesome and if you do a tutorial take your time to make it as perfect as possible, it would be awesome to have a tutorial from the worlds best spy :D
Wow just wow this is the best Tf2 montage I've ever seen I'm not sure if you're going to read this but i just had to let you all the work and effort put into this video made it into a masterpiece.
Hey Stabby, thanks a lot for posting such awesome Spy footage, you and a couple other spies on TH-cam helped me take my Spy game to another level! I was wondering if you would consider doing a side-stab/strafe and stab tutorial? I've got stair/jump stabs down fairly well, but learning the side-stab/strafe and stab is proving to be much more difficult. Thanks again :)
This man is a good spy, but far from the best. During the video most kills are on a pubserver and people can't obviously spycheck. He learned to stairstab and facestab though, which is an important step to become a good spy. Nice video!
The most common thing you see with mlg pros, is that they keep a constant and fluent movement style. They know when to back off, advance, turn the corner, which places are good to jump on/to and not, and this is the reason why I'm no where near as good as anyone.
Ya know, I've gotten about 50 good hours in as a spy, and I thought I was getting pretty familiar with what to do. Now I know I'll need about another 2350 hours. Like seriously, that was mind blowing.
@SztukaEgzegezy I think the spy is a well-balanced class on the whole. I also think that the DR and IW are very well-balanced--neither is better than the other, they each allow a spy to excel in different ways. I frequently use the IW (never the C&D), but I tend to find footage of the DR to be more entertaining.
Often you can hear their footsteps or just jump as you hear the gate. I mained Soldier for a few tournaments and that gave me serious spacial awareness.
I'd tried the dead ring when it first came out so long ago and took a hiatus from Team Fort. Then when I started playing again I really liked being able to stay hidden for long periods of time with the C&D. After watching this video I went and used the DR and found that the pace of the game is significantly faster and I did better with spy than ever before (with more than 24 hours on that class).
@steelfirez123 Yes, I played a season of ESEA 6's with Ambitions Debt, and we ran spy quite a bit. Spy is a totally different beast in that format, and the important thing was choosing the right time to run it. When we chose the right time for me to switch off scout it went quite well. I have a short 6v6 vid up on the channel, if you're interested.
@ForeverAtRest I'd say that each gets about as much done as the other on the whole. One tends to be more effective than the other based on the situation. And thanks :)
@VNdoug For the gun, Amby hands down. I use the stock knife the most, but the others sans the Big Earner can be fun, too. As far as the watch goes, I prefer the DR in pubs just to cut down on the ragey random spam deaths, but I'll always love the IW.
i'm a console gamer who has for awhile now be drooling at any and all TF2 gameplay i can get ahold of and now i'm in a state of total envy of the fact i can't play this game do to me not having a good enough PC - i own a laptop and i've tried playing and it can't hack it - but anyway i found this gameplay to be amazing and am feeling even worse that i can't play this game, i'm even toying with the idea of getting the PS3 version. Great video, and i'm subbed
@mrboobyjoe At the moment of the stab, typically, the only movement key you should be using is the strafe. I swing my view to match the direction they are looking as I stab--the important thing is that you are facing the same general direction as them, you don't have to aim at particular part of them. Check out the stickied thread in the Spy SPUF subforum on how backstabs work for an explanation of the mechanics (sorry TH-cam won't let me post a link).
@Tingwei5 I think it's over-powered, and I avoid using it out of principle...plus I just like the Ambassador. It is great for when you've got lots of pyros on your back, though.
Certain configs for servers. The clip at 1:28 was from a UGC Highlander match (competitive, hence all the people in blue have the same tag (-TN-) and same in the red tN|). That's how it is in competitive play. No random crits, and since the backstab counts as a crit and an instakill, the animation is removed.
@stabbyvideo ty for your reaction :) i always wanted to use the eternal award because i thought it was SO much better, but ive seen many of your vids now :)
Is it wrong that I'm in love with your spy skills? At this point, you'd been playing spy for 1000+ hours more than I've played TF2 in general, up to today. Probably 300 or so hours on spy for me at this point (don't know because of stats reset), so I'm still learning, but I aspire to reach this level of play someday.
very nice backstabs. You can see the 2k hours going into work when you can predict what angle they're going to chase/shoot you from and then backstab accordingly. I myself have 120hrs(nothing compared to you), I can definitely see mechanical differences in our skills. Nice to know i have yet to reach the mechanical ceiling yet.
@TankTaur To name a few common mistakes I see spies making: neglecting weapon disguise choices, under-utilizing the gun (even if your aim needs some work), displaying a lack of patience, and neglecting placement for kills (often it's better to pass up a stab in order to get yourself in position for multiple stabs). Don't get discouraged. Progress is slow and you'll continue to improve as long as you keep a good mindset about you. Just keep spying and try to keep creative...and have fun :P
hey quick question from man from future is there anyway to improve on knowing when to backstab? I try to do trickstab practicing but I'm to slow to click when I can backstab
I love how stabby just makes every class that's not spy look not worth playing.
It's great, because it gives me a bunch of clueless noob spies that I can use to farm my stranges.
ez money
It just tickles my balls when I see people getting trickstabbed.
;-;

how many hours you had on playing spy and scout today?
all music used in stabbys videos are good
So true
I try and watch this video once a year, nostalgia has me in a chokehold. Much love to everyone reading
I've found an AWESOME band called Ratatat due to this video. Thanks you Stabby! :)
I've always wondered which class would be most power in the hands of someone omniscient. Clearly the answer is spy.
You're awesome. Thanks for the videos.
The nostalgia.. it's overwhelming.
this is awesome mate, you are truly THE BEST spy I've ever seen, 2400 hours not surprised that you could play so well, very devoted man. thumbs up
Note to self: if you EVER see stabby... DONT chase him up stairs.
Well the trick would be to begin to chase him up the stairs for a moment, then immediately backpedal so that he falls in front of you if he attempts a stair stab.

WM1 pyros need to read this
Better note to self...if you ever see stabby, take a screenshot with him....leave the server period.....unless you want to get dominated the whole game
+Jamie “Nihilow” Darren Its any incline so he could pretty much wreck you standing on
a small pile of dirt
haha its true, this guys cornerstabs are AMAZING. Ive been watching ur vids for a few days, and i can honestly say since watching them I've become a MUCH better spy and my percentage of successful trickstabs has more than doubled. Thanks so much for these vids, liked and subscribed!
this is still your best video imo
Dude, that was amazing. Every other spy out there can only hope to be like you.
4:24 no way you stabbed that engineer
Hit boxes are massivt
There are a lot of parts in this video where you could say the same thing, but Stabby knows hoiw they work.
You need to reread TF2 for dummies
Me
***** It's not that at all. Hit boxes are larger than the models suggest.
Good luck with whatever you get into man! We're always here for you!
Stabby always seems to find clueless players
David Villanueva 2011 buddy...
David Villanueva he just makes them look worse then they are
You're absolutely right. A good spy needs lot of map awareness/knowledge. That doesn't away from the fact he's still a ridiculously
good spy when you take away his map knowledge. ;)
Man... Your Eternal Reward is a beast of a knife. Especially the way you were using it on Dustbowl. I'm gonna have to try that now.
The artist is ratatat if you're interested. I'm not sure which song, but they have a pretty epic discography. if you like the song i recommend you check them out

You, my friend, have perfected the leaping stab and have shown me how valuable it can be. I bow to your awesomeness!
I love it when people like the scout at the end get annoyed because you keep killing them, so they hunt you down and think they've killed you, proceed to taunt and then you decloak and kill them xD
@benlaserdragon Rumor has it that I may be doing a couple dualcomms on others' channels with some spy tips and discussion in the near future :)
Dead Ringer and Your Eternal Reward work so well together.
Nice vid.
Holy shit. You my friend are the best spy I've ever seen.
Subbed.
Good work and congratulations on the 100 days :)
1:48 That stab right as the medic ubered.... MIND BLOWN!
You have a really good taste in music, I have 3 new favourite bands just by listening to the audio in your videos.
@Pinkybum It's just a matter of my mood. Honestly, I mostly use the Saharan Set when I'm feeling lazy :)
@BanjoGate FOV is set to max (90) for the knife and minimum (70?) for the gun.
The smoke only appears in replays...I sure hope Valve fixes that.
@marvelousmoe It's going to be a lot of work, but I'm preparing a trickstab tutorial vid. Glad you've found the videos helpful so far!
Wow just wow this is the best Tf2 montage I've ever seen I'm not sure if you're going to read this but i just had to let you all the work and effort put into this video made it into a masterpiece.
I love how DR + L'Etranger Spy reloads invisible bullets into his gun using his tongue.
I play scout and I couldn't work a Pyro like you did at 4:05 to save my life. Good job man.
This man is a good spy, but far from the best.
During the video most kills are on a pubserver and people can't obviously spycheck. He learned to stairstab and facestab though, which is an important step to become a good spy.
Nice video!
Love the slope/stair jumping over their heads into backstabs.
The most common thing you see with mlg pros, is that they keep a constant and fluent movement style. They know when to back off, advance, turn the corner, which places are good to jump on/to and not, and this is the reason why I'm no where near as good as anyone.
I shed the single tear of a man overwelmed by indescribable beauty
A good dead ringer spy, damn! I use default watch and even then I'm nowhere near as efficient. Congrats on your 100 days!
Good job on those stabs dude...Some of those stabs just leave me speachless. Cheers
Ya know, I've gotten about 50 good hours in as a spy, and I thought I was getting pretty familiar with what to do.
Now I know I'll need about another 2350 hours. Like seriously, that was mind blowing.
Great video, an intuitive spy is the toughest to go up against.
this video flows so beautifully
@SztukaEgzegezy I think the spy is a well-balanced class on the whole. I also think that the DR and IW are very well-balanced--neither is better than the other, they each allow a spy to excel in different ways. Often you can hear their footsteps or just jump as you hear the gate. I mained Soldier for a few tournaments and that gave me serious spacial awareness.
I get butterflies in my stomach when you did the 360 spin and just stabbed the confused pyro with his "i'm better than you" unusual :3
I'd tried the dead ring when it first came out so long ago and took a hiatus from Team Fort. Then when I started playing again I really liked being able to stay hidden for long periods of time with the C&D. This was awesome. Really made me realize just how oblivious the majority of TF2 players are.
I only could watch the first minute or so because of my crappy internet, but...woooooow, man. This definitely deserves 100,000 views.
Stabby and Ratatat are a marriage made in heaven.
This man plays spy without fearing the pyro whatsoever, holy shit can you tell he is good
It frightens me that at one point even the best spies used the enforcer :o
scout: WOOHOO
*uncloaking sound*
*gun shot*
scout: OWWWW
Sir, you are truly a master of this class, my hat is tipped to you.
I watched most of this video with my mouth hanging open. This is amazing.
@ForeverAtRest I'd say that each gets about as much done as the other on the whole. One tends to be more effective than the other based on the situation. And thanks :)

That kill against the scout at the end is so great. Taunting after he thinks he killed you. =P
Dat sound track gives me the chill every time!
Awesome music! I love Ratatat! :D Keep up the awesome work man! :)
@TheBacstabur I record with Fraps, and edit in WMM or Adobe Premiere.
Thats an epic song bro, i like how it started on the stab :D
LOVE the Scout at the end!

-Slurgi
i love this song
whenever i try to be a good spy and do trick stabs i always hum it in the background
Stabby you are one of the best spies known in tf2 and you know it.
Subscribed. i'm going to watch all of your videos to try and learn from you! thanks for making these.

@ACEitachi96 This is an entertainment piece, not an exhibition of skill. Try not to focus on who's the 1337, it'll hold you back.
The best spy in the world FOR SURE! I'm so amazed by your killing.
very nice backstabs. You can see the 2k hours going into work when you can predict what angle they're going to chase/shoot you from and then backstab accordingly.

thanks to you i got my first skill stab ever,
its in my profile fyi, keep up the good work, a fellow spy!
This video introduced me to Ratatat. Thanks stabby.
If only people were less paranoid about trickstabs, I would have done more kills thanks to the tips Stabby shows.
4:14 I love it when an idiot medic starts healing you XD
Damn man, you have some really damn good prediction skills.
Sometimes cornerstab is all about lagg and reflex
But when you're stabby stabby
Its pure skill
This video made me crack a grin, well done.
@stabbyvideo ty for reacting :) and what watch do you prefer with cp ?
note to self: if stabby joins a server, LEAVE IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE HE WILL MAKE YOU WISH YOU WERE NEVER BORN
3:53 that was beautiful
I am 1000% sure this video got claimed by Ratatat but now its back! So great!
Asking why Stabby is so good is like asking a potato why is it round. IT JUST IS.
Stealing that Uber was pretty epic
I come here for the entertaining gameplay and also, I love that you use Ratatat.
