If someone would see anything specific and talk about it after leaving that lab or record this specific thing and later release to public(for example as an YT's video), GE would lose chance to patent it. To be honest I think that some of the "hardcore" GE's rivals already studied this video in search of any potential patent-breaking content xD

You should do one of the Leidenfrost Effect. Basically, if you get a hot plate super-hot and splash a little water on it, rather than landing on the plate and boiling away, the water droplets will actually glide across the plate on their own steam.
I don't know if you're getting notifications from a comment this old, or if you're still a subscriber and already knew, but they actually did a short in the last month that covered exactly this!
At first I thought to myself, "do a super hydrophilic video!" but then I realized I can just look at a paper towel being "super hydrophilic" and it doesn't seem all that interesting.
Borris Janovski water will always look like rubber/bouncy due to surface tension, the bonds, cohesion and adhesion. all of which are factors to why any liquid will act like rubber.. this would be the case if it was on a normal surface such as glass or even silk.
The way the fluid moves across the super hydrophobic surface reminds me a lot of the leidenfrost effect, which makes sense because in both cases the fluid isn't touching the surface.
@@Mostlyharmless1985 You would still need to clean oil off a hydrophobic surface. An oleophobic material will repel oils. I know this is an old comment, but I just thought that you (or others) might find it interesting.
It's been a long time that you guys haven't uploaded! And I've been watching achievment hunter all this time… good to see gavie somewhere else! And I missed you dan!
That second one was like something out of science fiction, it was insane! I was half-expecting to see a face appear in the liquid, like a skull or something. That would have been trippy.
Would love to see you guys revisit ferrofluids with some whacky experiment using the better cameras and lenses you have now. Like firing a metal projectile just above the surface to see the fluid chasing (or grabbing/catching?) the projectile, or putting it on a surface above a speaker making complex waveforms, or whatever crazy idea you come up with.
I just don't understand how nature does this kind I stuff lol. Like that liquid starts floating through the air and then makes spikes... wtf that's awesome haha!

What would happen if the magnet was coated with hydrophobic materiel? Would it both attract and repel the fluid? Or would the attracted fluid be in constant motion?
That's what I was hoping was going to happen when I saw the video title XD Sad day. I also thought ferrofluids were made with oil and not water but I guess I was wrong XD
Technically speaking, the latter. The magnet would attract the fluid, but the hydrophobic material would cause it to "bounce" back away from the test tube once the fluid reached it, causing it to be attracted back and so on.
I love that Gav's labcoat is considered clean/intact enough to be worn in a real lab, but Dan is wearing a new one 😂
This is the best Phantom slow mo video ever! Interesting to see the pattern of magnetism in the ball of nanofilings.

its sad that in 2014 we still have hydrophobic people...
Why is it sad?
duartemad hydrophobe!
MrShloker I am not scared of water... I live in an island! Swimming is second nature for me.
How is it sad? Some people are just afraid of drowning. And why shouldn't people (not that I am one) be a hydrophobe just because it's 2014?
Hydrophobia doesn't mean a fear of water I don't think
Slow Mo Guys videos are just so god damn beautiful. I can't tell you how many times I've thought "Wow, I want that as my Desktop Background" before.

I came to see magnetic liquid ON the Hydrophobic surface. :(

Since it is too a liquid, it probably would bead off of the hydrophobic surface too. Come on now, appreciate what they actually did. Looks incredible.
It wouldn't work because the liquid is mineral oil and not water
