Battery changing is so difficult on my older Honda I found it easier to remove the cables from the starter solenoid and leave them attached to the battery. I can then put them on the battery on the bench and reattach the cables to the solenoid. It helps if you can put the non-captive “captive“ nuts on the battery before trying to install it. Sometimes I use a small piece of zip tie to wedge the nut in place. I admit I often fail to do this until I’ve spent too much time trying to get the lead attached. Try replacing a battery on a 650 BMW. You haven’t hated a bike so much in your life…
Thanks Alvin ! It clearly isn't just me who struggles to attach the battery leads with the new battery in the bike then ! I feel so much better now 😂😂😂 Swapping the battery out sounds like such a simple job, doesn't it ? But it very rarely is. Your suggestion might actually work on the Meteor too. I would imagine that at some point there will be a connector which I could just disconnect and then take that part of the loom, still attached to the old battery, over to the bench and swap it over to the new battery. I mean, there definitely isn't an intentional connector for battery swapping like there is on the Malaguti but there might be connectors going off to the various solenoids and gizmos which I could separate to make life easier. Definitely worth looking at before I swap batteries again 🤔, just a question of how far into the loom you'd have to delve before you managed to get both leads disconnected from the bike. Somewhere near the battery would have been nice ! I did spend at least an hour trying to get the positive lead reattached because the battery was at a slight downward and outward angle at the positive end, so the non-captive nut simply didn't want to stay where it needed to be. Of course the negative cable went on at the first attempt which gave me false hope that it was going to be easy after all 😂 After removing the tool roll holder, I was able to use a watchmakers screwdriver from above to try to stop the nut moving about TOO much. Like you, I tried to fit the leads without resorting to any clever tricks but was just about to give up and try to fix the nut in place somehow when the bugger suddenly lined up ! Typical ! Sometimes being lazy can bite you in the backside. It would have been better to wedge the nut in place from the start ( somehow ) but of course, we are always hopeful that we'll get away without doing it this time, aren't we ? 🤦🏻♂ Thanks Alvin, I feel much less useless now 👍🏻 Garry
Hopefully I remember to tune in. Always good. Think when garage comes back from holiday, I get battery fitted. What’s the type Garry, does it matter re brand, as I prefer to get a better quality. Re tyres, am loving the Michelin. Road Classic on front and Road 6 on rear. Road 6 not available for the front in that size.😢 Very grippy and confident ride.😊 Best regards Mark. Sat on a lowered MT 07…….very nice.😊
Well Mark, if you miss the live you can of course watch the recording later. It will be under the LIVE tab of my channel home page and that way you can fast forward through all of the boring bits where I am not accidentally flashing up the picture of Dave in his fetish wear 😂 I took the old battery to the shop and plonked it on the counter. The bloke then disappeared into the stores and came out with one which was pretty much identical 🤷♂ If you get to choose a brand, Yuasa are excellent, standard equipment for most Japanese bikes. My shop seems to mainly have EXIDE bike batteries, I've now been sold two EXIDES but they have a decent enough reputation and are reasonably priced. To be honest, just about any brand name battery is going to be significantly better than the OEM one Mark, so don't worry about it. Just make sure that it's a brand you've heard of, would be my advice. There is a lot of cheap Chinese crap out there which will probably be no better than what you've got ! Thanks for the tyre info. I might get back to you about those, if I have problems getting the Metzelers or the CEATs. Are those two tyres the exact same dimensions as the CEAT originals Mark ? An MT07 is just naughty Mark. Just naughty 😝 Cheers Mark, Garry
Lovely ride in sunshine and dry roads Garry. Are the CEAT tyres readily available to you in Spain? Re the Hunter rear suspension - why stop there-buy the rest of the bike 😂😂Thanks for that sunshine - very cheering 😊
Morning Peter ! I am assuming that the dealer can get hold of CEAT tyres through the Spanish RE distributor. They probably sling a few in every container of bikes they ship over. We'll see. I'll let them know next time I am over there and they can see what kind of tyres and chain and sprocket set they can find and what they will cost. I can't be bothered and if I buy the stuff, especially the tyres, I'd have to do an extra trip over in the car just to drop.them off. Can't see that happening unless I adopt the LE release schedule and stop doing live shows 😂 Just been out running an errand on Norman and because it is so late, it was stinking hot. I need another shower and the inside of my helmet is like a wet sponge ! Cheers Peter. Have a fun day. As for the Hunter, I did actually dream of having bought one last night. But I think that if I am going to spend a chunk of money on a new bike, it will have to be something very different to the two that I have, unfortunately. 🤔 Love from Spain, Garry & Ruby

I have been out for a nice ride on Ruby today but the weather was struggling to stay dry and quite cool for August.
Hope the rest of your weekend is good too.

Evening Garry and video star Ruby 😊 is Jeff appearing on Thursday's the live cast ?
Hi Jamesworth !
I haven't asked Jeff if he wants to pop along and it might be a bit short notice now.
I will send him an email and if he wants to he can take up the slack whilst Steve and I are drinking our milk and coughing our guts up 😂
That's a good idea and I think I can figure out how to add him to the stream.
Cheers James, I shall tell SB that you have requested his presence 👍🏻

@economicalrides just thought 73 might enjoy the challenge but not the hot stuff 😉
@@Ainsworth-Rider Yes. Nice idea. I'll ask him but won't put him under any pressure because it is quite late in the day 🙂
Thanks James !
First 😛
Cheers Ruby & Garry 🍻
@@WilliamAndrewPhilipBodie Congrats William 🙂 Here’s your medal 🥇
Hope to see you on Thursday 👍

@@economicalrides Don't know with me work 😲
@@WilliamAndrewPhilipBodie Ah yes, that pesky work !
Well if you miss it live, you can catch the recording later on, under the LIVE tab of my channel home page.
Only should you want to of course 😇
Cheers William,

@@economicalrides Thanks for the info 😀
such a beautiful ride
Thanks Janet, glad you liked it.
I had to get up early to film it but it was definitely worth it !
I hope you are enjoying your own Meteor now Janet 🙂🤞
Cheers,

@@economicalrides I am - learning to change gears when coming up to a stop has taken some getting use to. The sound of the bike is just so lovely
@@janettcotton4161 🙂
Just remember, there is no rush. As long as you can stay safe and avoid confidence-sapping boo-boos, you'll have plenty of time to get the hang of things ! I've been riding for nearly forty years now and I'm still learning every time I go out.
Safety and confidence building first and the rest will come with time.
Glad to hear that you are enjoying your Meteor Janet(t), I was pretty sure that you would ! 😇
Have fun and stay safe 👍🏻
Garry
yes , most bike batteries are a pain , , i have had several inc yuasa that have died even before fitting ,,
@@simongilbert2704 Blimey ! And I thought I was unlucky ! 😂
I feel so much better now 😂😂😂
Swapping the battery out sounds like such a simple job, doesn't it ?
Of course the negative cable went on at the first attempt which gave me false hope that it was going to be easy after all 😂
After removing the tool roll holder, I was able to use a watchmakers screwdriver from above to try to stop the nut moving about TOO much.
Thanks Alvin, I feel much less useless now 👍🏻
Garry
Hopefully I remember to tune in. Always good.
Think when garage comes back from holiday, I get battery fitted. What’s the type Garry, does it matter re brand, as I prefer to get a better quality.
Re tyres, am loving the Michelin. Road Classic on front and Road 6 on rear.
Road 6 not available for the front in that size.😢
Very grippy and confident ride.😊
Best regards Mark.
Sat on a lowered MT 07…….very nice.😊
Well Mark, if you miss the live you can of course watch the recording later. It will be under the LIVE tab of my channel home page and that way you can fast forward through all of the boring bits where I am not accidentally flashing up the picture of Dave in his fetish wear 😂
I took the old battery to the shop and plonked it on the counter.
Just naughty 😝
Cheers Mark,
Garry
@@economicalrides yes exact same size for both tyres.
Great ! Thanks Mark 👍🏻
Can't see that happening unless I adopt the LE release schedule and stop doing live shows 😂
Just been out running an errand on Norman and because it is so late, it was stinking hot.
🤔
Love from Spain,
Garry & Ruby
Garry, when are going to upgrade Buddie to economical Hunter rear shocks?
I'm totally bikeless at the moment.. If you don't count the 4 bicycles 😃😃 The hunt for new bike is extensive .. I'm at crossroads what to get.
@@Stefan_trekkie Spain is a bit weird. For the first technical inspection the bike has to be standard. Buddy is eligible for the first technical inspection next Spring. I can’t change the shocks before then but from the second technical inspection onwards they don’t pay so much attention to any mods. My hands are tied until he passes the first inspection really. After that I will be fitting the Hunter shocks for sure !!!
So which bikes has your choice come down to ?
Cheers Stefan,
Garry & Ruby
What country are you riding in?
Hi Stuart,
I am fortunate enough to live in Almeria province, in southern Spain. These are all local roads to me 👍🏻
