- Auroville is an experimental township in Viluppuram district mostly in the state of Tamil Nadu, India with some parts in the Union Territory of Puducherry in India. It was founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa (known as "the Mother") and designed by architect Roger Anger. As stated in Alfassa's first public message in 1965,
Auroville wants to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity.

I heard about this place in 80's. After resignation Shri RKTalwar, SBI Chairman, lived here till his death. Paradise for peace loving people.
I was here just a few days ago and it is the most magical place in the world. I thought Rishikesh was magical but no. Autoville is 100%. Thank you, Mataji and Aurovindo for the greatest idea. I’ll go again and stay longer🙏🏼

Some points to be noted about auroville
People are Vegetarian.
They are non-alcoholic but have coffee shops.
Shorts or small clothes are forbidden. Men must wear a shirt in public place, no body show off.
The founder of Auroville Mirra Alfassa was herself a Hindu and a french spiritual guru.
Auroville follow the spiritual concept of Hinduism, such as Integral Yoga, Samadhi, Ahimsa, Loving Nature, etc.
