On March 16, 2024, the new service started along the recently extended Hokuriku Shinkansen bullet train line beyond Kanazawa and into Fukui Prefecture.
In this video, we will discover some of the highlights in the capital city of Fukui and its surroundings. This includes a historic archeological site, a dinosaur museum and local food specialties.
This video was filmed in mid-November 2023.

Fukui looks really cool. Thanks for sharing less well know places with us. What I love in Japan, is the love for details - in museums, gardens, food, accommodation etc. This was shown on every place you visited in this short trip to Fukui.

I love Fukui, I lived there for four months many years ago as a missionary. This video was great but could’ve included several other incredible places like Eiheiji and Tojinbo

please also visit Eiheiji Temple if you're headed to Fukui. It's a large temple construction with dozens of buildings. Just don't take pictures of monks if you go there

Nice place. The museum is great, even for someone like me who isn't a dinosaur fan. Eiheiji also has some tourists, but Heisenji Hakusan and the Great Buddha were mostly empty. The only issue is that I needed a car.
Even without shinkansen, Fukui is a nice day trip between Kanazawa and Kyoto.
Holy cow dinosaurs. That looked so awesome. I heard about the Shinkansen going there and I thought this would be an awesome place to try and get back to. I've only been to the beaches in the south. I had no idea about the dinosaurs. And considering what I've seen you guys eat over the past few years...hearing the words "this is the best meal of my life" isn't something I take lightly...it means Fukuii is jumping way up the list of places I must go... Crab is so good ...
Dinosaurs were AWESOME! And the izakaya dinner really was one of the highlights. Fukui definitely has a lot of beautiful gems, hope you will get to visit there someday!

I went to the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum earlier this month and I loved it! I want to go again, but it's such a hassle to travel there from Tokyo 😢

Indeed, Fukui has a lot of beautiful places that we could not cover in this 2 day itinerary.

Isn't Fukui known as the rudest city of Japan?! Not meant it as anything rude but most people go to be treated badly, That's what I was told by one of my friends
I imagine that what is considered rude to Japanese is almost comically polite everywhere else.
not at all, i have been there and the people is friendly, i would recommend you to go to Echizen Ono Castle...one of the most beautiful castles i have seen in Japan
Love this video espesially about Dino Museum. It would be amazing if you mentioned the price of the food, train tickets, entrance tickets and some souvenirs there. You know, so some of your loyal viewers can prepare how much to spend while traveling there
