    Thank you! AT age 73 I am going to try a bit of touring for the first time this year. This was super helpful.

    Great video. The first day I used them I didn't have the toe piece fully down and locked like you showed right at the end. I didn't realize a ski had come off and when I went to make my next turn I kissed a tree. So don't forget that folks! Also, they are very stiff to switch when you first get them, but it gets easier after a bit of use.

    Thanks for the video! Your commentary makes it easier to understand than Salomon's videos!

    I learned so much watching this tutorial thank you! I think its easier to step into the bingings when switching into walk mode after everything else is set up!

    Thanks for an excellent tutorial. I just bought some used skis with these bindings and now know how they work.

    This is a really informative and easy to follow video! I searched around yesterday and (IMHO) nothing compares to your tutorial! Thank you for the easy to follow, clear directions and demo!
    Update: Just back from an intro 1/2 mile hike up to try out the bindings! Steep terrain and remembered to set the brakes first before doing anything! Your tutorial worked like a charm!

    You definitely want to practice stepping into the toe and setting the pins. If you had included that in tutorial it would have been really helpful. We have lots of customers buying this Shift for their first touring set up. As you know lining up the pins so they close into the holes can be challenging in certain conditions. Overall a good explanation.

      Thanks. I did mention practicing at home before heading to the hill but I probably could have been more specific. Thanks for the feedback.

    I just got the Atomic binding. Once I get my boot into the pins it’s literally impossible to get the top part to lock into walk at the top of the binding. Your demonstration makes it look so easy like it doesn’t even take any effort. Maybe mine are defective?? The only way I can lock that piece down is if I hold my skis up against my body and it also broke a nail! There’s no way to do it with my boots in the bindings, with me standing over the skis. It only works if I’m holding the skis up against my body which means my boots aren’t in them. Crazy!! I’m taking them back to where I bought them this week to see if they can figure out the issue or exchange them for Markers which I hear are easier to use. I got the Atomics since you don’t need to hold onto an extra piece like with the Markers, but if the Atomics don’t lock into walk mode while actually on top of the ski, then they’re pointless. It’s so frustrating! Good thing I first tried them out on my land before going off somewhere remote!

      Hey Sarah! Sorry to hear you’re having issues with your binding! Hopefully the shop is able to get it sorted for you! The toe pin lockout should engage fairly easily. I have noticed that the lines that indicate “walk” don’t precisely line up. I’d say there is usually a few millimeters between the two marks.
      Hopefully the shop can help you out quickly and you can get out there and enjoy them! Cheers!

    2:35 Anybody know what could happen if you do not lock the toe lever all the way down into ski mode? I see people at the resort with the toe lever only part way down. Sometimes I try to alert them to the fact that they are not completely in "ski mode" and they will often have some nonsensical excuse.

    Your thought on the Salomon 106?

    • @TJonesMTB
      @TJonesMTB  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really like them. I use them as a one quiver ski so for that they are great. They hold a good edge on hard pack and then have enough float for me on most powder days. If I was doing a 2 ski setup, I’d probably go with the Blanks and QST99 as a combo setup. I wish the 106 was offered in a 184 or 185, but haven’t had any real issues with the 181 length. So ya, I’m quite happy with them. Cheers

    Is the shift binding combatible with the Scarpa F1 shoe?

    Can I use ,both, my AT boots and my Alpine boots in this binding?

    • @TJonesMTB
      @TJonesMTB  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Daniel,
      That is something that you will want to ask your local ski shop. Some AT boots and some Alpine boots will work is this binding, while others will not. My brother is able to use his AT and Alpine boots in the same Shift binding with a slight adjustment of the toe plate but that answer will fully depend on the make of the boot, the size, so on. For safety and reliability, check with your local ski shop.
      Cheers!

    Is there any issues in therms of compatibility with scarpas maestrale?

    • @TJonesMTB
      @TJonesMTB  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t had any issues with my specific boot (Maestrale XT). I can’t speak to all Scarpas though. Unfortunately, that is a question that will be best for a backcountry specialty shop. Try Cripple Creek Backcountry or Skimo.com. Both teams have been great whenever I have needed assistance. Cheers!

    Would you go with a 110 size or 120 for the QST Blank (112mm)?

    • @TJonesMTB
      @TJonesMTB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Daniel! Id guess the 120mm brake size but you could maybe tweak the 110 if you want the brakes to be really tight to the ski. Id recommend checking with your local ski shop. Unfortunately I haven’t gotten to play with that combo. Cheers!

      @@danielschvester6960 You probably figured it out by now, but I'll still let you know my experience. I got the QST 106 and the 110 breaks and there is some room, but it probably won't fit the 112 or it will be really tight, so a better option is to go with 120.

    Nice. But it looks like one has to remove the boot from the ski in order to convert from uphill to downhill (or vice versa), unlike my Silvretta 404's. I know, ancient - that's why I am looking at these! 🙂
