bro i'm gonna hang a picture of dollfuss in my room btw Dollfuss was the best Fascist Leader that ever actually took power, and unlike other National-Catholic leaders, he never liberalized the economy
Yes, he never liberalized economy because it was already more liberal than fascist. Dolphuss collaborated with Mises. @@gyhden9299 Hitler was more race fueled than what fascism called for. Fascism is more based on nationalism and unity rather than a regard for skin color.
@@cxarhomell5867 I agree. And Dollfuss was indeed partly a fascist, but not like real fascist Starhemberg. Dollfuss was an aristocrat, and his anti-democratic views were common to the former Austrian aristocracy. He really wasn't going to liberalize his regime. However, in part, regime was partly liberalized under chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg. He did not like anti-semites at all (unlike Dollfuss, who in his youth had anti-Semitic views, but abandoned them until the 1930s). Schuschnigg always said in his memoirs that he was not a fascist or anti-semite. Schuschnigg was going to develop a less fascist constitution (unlike the Dollfuss constitution of 1934) but did not have time to do so before the anschluss. He also tried to invite the economist Mises to take an important position in Austria in 1937 or 1938, but Mises could not return because of the danger of anschluss.
@@gyhden9299 Mussolini was an opportunist, he was even criticized by his inner circle for changing core tenants of fascism to fit his situation such as the racial laws, which most old school/fascist syndicalists had opposed (even Gentile), and the stance on capitalism and the monarchy (both were supposed to be abolished). The Dolfuss and Schusnigg regimes both were based on the earlier interpretation of fascism and people at the time noted that.
@@hyperion3145 I don't think Mussolini was against the monarchy. Yes, he was against capitalism, but not the monarchy, although he spoke badly about it sometimes. I do not agree with your statement. But this is just my opinion, which is based on the study of various books and historical works devoted to the Dollfuss-Schuschnigg regime. Dollfuss really came under strong fascist influence at one point, but initially (before 1933-1934) he was not a fascist. Schuschnigg was never a fascist, which is confirmed not only by his books, but also by historical studies on Schuschnigg's politics. About the fact that people in 1934-1938 called the Austrian regime “fascism”. This was done mainly by people of left-wing views who had reason to do so, because their parties were banned (Schuschnigg legalized the Social Democrats and trade unions a few days before the anschluss, but it was too late). But most Austrians did not consider the regime fascist, including well-known figures of science and art and politics. In one of the studies I read that even the figures of the "Fatherland Front" did not think so. With the exception of Staremberg, who was deprived of power in 1936 because he congratulated Mussolini on the war in Ethiopia and literally calling himself a fascist in his congratulations, which was unacceptable for the Austrian government in 1936.

The reason why Austrian Nazis were truly disgusting is that they turned against such a great state. Strong in Christianity, supportive towards its people, not even that repressive, technocratic and moving towards future whilst also respecting its history. In fact, it was probably the only time when Austria was close to the restoration of its monarchy. 1938 was truly cursed for Austria, because it destroyed such a great state And I love how today the reborn version of Dolfuss's party still exists and even rules now. I state that I really like Austria: I like your country, your landscapes, your culture, music and art, your civilization. I am Italian and I would like to ask to you Austrians a question. I see that some of you would like your country to be part of Germany. So I ask: do you prefer to be one of the regions of Germany, naturally with all the federal autonomies enjoyed by the other regions of Federal Germany, or would you prefer to be part of a new empire (as a sovereign state within it) together with Italy (it is sad not to have good relations with you for that small territory that is South Tyrol), Hungary, Poland and with any other state that you like, but without Germany? so a new Ostmark or a new Empire, what choice would you make?
@@user-zq8hd2bk5l I didn't know that you Tyrolese people consider yourself German and not Austrian. Regarding Alto Adige (South Tyrol), it is geographically Italian, but is inhabited by many South Tyrolean ... They enjoy wide autonomy and economic privileges, in fact Trentino Alto Adige is one of the richest regions of Italy. Why are you talking about South-Tyrolean problem? I imagine you want unification with your region... However, regarding my question, I imagine you prefer to be a region within Germany, with federal autonomy like Bavaria, rather than joining a confederation-empire along with Italy, Poland, Hungary other countries of Central/Balkans Europe.
@@user-zq8hd2bk5l I understand your point of view, obviously I don't share it ... Regarding your answer, I would like to ask you if something would change if Bavaria belongs to Austria. I'm trying to understand if Bavaria's role is decisive. About South Tyrol, do you Tyroleans think of the province of Bolzano (Alto Adige, we Italians think that when you talk about South Tyrol you only want to indicate Alto Adige) or even the province of Trento (Trentino)? Regarding my speech on the border, obviously you know what physical geography is. Well, for physical geography, Italy, in the Alpine area we are talking about, is complete only if it reaches the current border. This is the "physical" and "natural" boundary of Italy. Of course I know you can't share my point of view. Obviously the natural border of Austria is not on the river Po :) although the Habsburgs had come to incorporate all of Tuscany :)))
@@user-zq8hd2bk5l thank you for the explanation of Bavaria and Germany. I thought Bavaria was decisive, but it is only in negative. Trentino is inhabited only by Italians, like the rest of our Alps. The only exception is Alto Adige (your south tyrol) which is inhabited by Germans, but not only: in South Tyrol there are also Italians. I understand the "romantic" aspect of even talking about Trentino, but it is 100% Italian. So our borders are not at the beginning of the Alps, but exactly where they are now (because they are all inhabited by us Italians), with the partial exception of South Tyrol, of which I understand, but do not share, your point of view.
@@user-zq8hd2bk5l For the province of Trento there is a small minority, 4%, of Germans and Austrians (I am sorry that it is in Italian, but wikipedia can be easily translated): it.wikipedia.org/wiki/autonoma_of_Trento# Lingue_e_dialetti So I would say that we cannot take into consideration the idea that Trentino is not Italian and does not belongs to Italy. It is the pure and incontrovertible truth. For the province of Bolzano you Germans are obviously the majority: it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provincia_autonoma_di_Bolzano#Evoluzione_demografica but we Italians are about 1/4 of the population. What you say in the past was true: there was an attempt to Italianise South Tyrol. I don't approve it. The real reason why, at the end of the First World War (which we Italians won...), we wanted the border to the Brenner pass was to be able, finally for the first time in our history, to control the ways of access to our country. Too many invasions from the north we have suffered in our history, since the time of the end of the Roman empire. I understand your reasons, try to understand ours. Try putting yourself in our shoes. I also realize that talking about these things in 2019 is anachronistic, but this is history, the borders were drawn in 1919 and the dangers could still be there. Now, fortunately, we are in a united Europe and this brings us back to my initial purpose: I did not want to talk about borders, but to understand whether you and the rest of you Austrians would prefer to be a region with federal autonomy, within Germany, or a sovereign state within a confederation-empire (the Holy Roman Empire was, in the end, a confederation) with us Italians, the Hungarians, etc. I don't like talking about borders with you Austrians because I love your culture and civilization (although history has not united us, if not with force: the Holy Roman Empire, the Austrian Empire). We can be friends :)
Italy and Austria were Camerati back then, united against foreign imperialisms. Saluti romani ai fratelli austriaci, we shall forget about the years before Fascism Fascism is the only will of the people, while the previous governments and kingdoms were only imperialism paid with people's blood. 🇮🇹❤ 🇦🇹

In english: The most necessary and the hardest and the most important thing in music is the tempo. My fatherland always has the first claim on me. The taste of death is on my tongue, I feel something that is not of this world. If Germany, my beloved fatherland, of which, as you know, I am proud, does not want to welcome me, then France or England must, in God's name, become richer again by a skillful German, and this to the shame of the German nation. New friends, new pain. I hope it is not necessary to say that I care very little about Salzburg and nothing at all about the Archbishop and I don't give a shit about both. Music must never offend the ear, but must be fun. But what straightens me up the most and keeps me in good spirits is that I am an honest German. That is something from which something can be learned. In opera, the poetry of music must be an obedient daughter. Passions, violent or not, must never be expressed to the point of disgust, and music, even in the most dreadful situation, must never offend the ear. The angels are always there with music like this. The heart ennobles man. How beautiful life was! You have to be cheerful, Providence has determined you for this.
It was absolutely not a harmonic time, however. Marxists and Nazis were both fighting to take over. It was a time of strive and civil war, that is why Dollfuß was needed. Dollfuß was later shot by Nazi revolutionaries, who stormed his office and gunned him down in cold blood.
Schuschnigg almost did that. he was obviously going to preserve the austro fascist state, but he had a talk with otto von habsburg if he wanted to become emperor. in the end they decided that it would all be prepared in the few months to come. Schuschnigg asked mussolini if a supposed return of the austrian monarchy would be fine with him. mussolini then said he would be fine with that and went as far as to saying that if the habsburg emperor married a member of the savoys, their austrian-italian relations would be entirely sealed
Fascism is a transitory state. Not effectively permanent. After being dissolved for so long they needed to rebuild in order to prepare for Habsburg rule once more. Plus they would have had to convince Horthy first. Otto was under pressure from both the Austrians and the Hungarians. The problem was he had the Allies also breathing down his neck.
beautiful video. I think that Dollfuss and Schuschnigg were two great statesmen and Stahremberg a noble, great patriot and a great soldier. At that time you Austrians were allies and friends of us Italians. It is a pity that all this did not last long, then the Anschluss came to separate us. But I have great respect for your story and I really like your culture, literature and music. I would like to ask a question: do you Austrians still hate us? Do you still hold us responsible for the collapse of your empire? It would not be true, it is not only our responsibility and I would be very sorry if you still thought so (not to mention South Tyrol...). I would really like it if we could be friends and allies :)

Beautiful beyond words.
I'm sure that Dollfuss was the perfect man for such troubled times.

Dollfuss was the best Fascist Leader that ever actually took power, and unlike other National-Catholic leaders, he never liberalized the economy
Yes, he never liberalized economy because it was already more liberal than fascist. Dolphuss collaborated with Mises.
It was not fascism: Corporatism was only in words, unlike Mussolini, there was no ethnic nationalism (even Mussolini was at first against the Slavs, and since the 1930s Jews, he spoke badly about them in Petachsi's dekvniks, and then Ethiopians ).
I do not agree with your
statement.
Excellent work

Getriggert, naja...
Obwohl ich natürlich nicht diesen "Muh Hitler was A Zionist Shill!" Shit aus den Staaten glaube. Österreich über alles!
@@user-zq8hd2bk5l For the province of Trento there is a small minority, 4%, of Germans and Austrians (I am sorry that it is in Italian, but wikipedia can be easily translated): it.wikipedia.org/wiki/autonoma_of_Trento# Lingue_e_dialetti
So I would say that we cannot take into consideration the idea that Trentino is not Italian and does not belongs to Italy. It is the pure and incontrovertible truth. For the province of Bolzano you Germans are obviously the majority: it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provincia_autonoma_di_Bolzano#Evoluzione_demografica
but we Italians are about 1/4 of the population.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:
Neue Freunde, neue Schmerzen.
In english:
The most necessary and the hardest and the most important thing in music is the tempo.

@@richardi749 In this case, yes.
I still think Austria should be ruled under the Habsburgs, if we can't have that, then Austrofascism is best.
Wow, this is amazing 🔥
beautiful video.
I will answer these questions in detail in an upcoming Q&A video. But I can already tell you that you will like the answers.
