These Nexus realms have a realm lord and the characters we play in HOTS are essentially just pawns to their chess game. If we win, we conquer a realm in the name of that realm lord, and in essence allow them to attain powerful singularity stones that enable them to reach a level of demi-godhood.
Not going to lie, At first I was skeptical about the whole presidents and AI thing but this is pretty hilarious I can already Imagine videogame characters with AI voice over in rule 34
When they talked about the beauty of their teamup in cho'gall i was thinking about WHY his magic is the way it is remembering the warcraft story... and then they get reminded that they play an insane ogre mage lorewise... it was freakin comedy gold.
Blizzard should have pumped more into presenting this game better, i really enjoyed hots, great gimmicks, real good levels and heros, underated, it's a shame they closed it
Blizzard completely dropped the ball with communicating the existence of this game to potential players, and the monetization as well. The ranked system is shit too. Oh dear god and the automatic bans from the reporting system.
Nah none of that would have changed anything significantly enough. HotS's issue was core to its design: It is far too casual for what they tried to pull with the game. The issue is they delivered an ultra casual "dad gamer" moba (I loved hots, no flame) and then they went hard on forcing an esport out of it. It made zero sense and ultimately killed the game. Look at League and Dota. Both of those games in no way present themselves as casual games and they also have a thriving esport scene. HotS was a shit ton of fun and had some competitiveness to it but it wasn't really a competitive game and Blizzard with their boner for esports forced it on a game that literally plays like an intro into MOBA mechanics and teamfighting/decision making. tldr: amazing game that was ruined by Blizzard's boner for esports and then they had to massively scale back the dev team and cold turkey cut the entire esport scene which killed the playerbase.
You've done a great thing by creating this meme -- more people need to be playin' it, maybe Blizzard will one day pull the stick out of their butt and come back to Hots.
