It seems like each video I watch is better than the last. The is a particularly GREAT video. Practically every rock guitar player could benefit from this series. The 411 in this video is exactly what I need. And it’s 4 years old??!! WTF, YT algorithm!
I watched you playing for 20 minutes. I'm in love. Thanks a lot for these videos. I play in a metalcore band, but I'm sure there is a lot to learn from what you say here. A hug from Brazil!
Awesome, thanks. I do like various rock or metal groups, although it's not really the kind of thing I play, per se. There's this album that I heard recently that was called jazz metal or something.... It's legitimately like math metal mixed with jazz fusion, i e. Saxophone etc, yet it still works
Wish I knew about you years ago. I’ve known most of this stuff for decades but never implemented it fully as you have. So now I will. Love the Maj triad up a step trick. Nice. ❤
I have been completely uninspired with music for the last few years. So much so that I took up aviation to push myself. Then I discovered your channel Tory. Besides the technique. (Which is completely mind blowing) Your musical expression and concepts are so unique and have brought me back. Thank you!
That's good to hear,.. listen, I've been in the same boat.. and situations like this the inspiration is definitely needed, but also just backing away from the instrument for a bit and kind of dropping all of the bad mechanical habits that we have developed, ie. - playing all of our favorite licks and whatnot, maybe take up a whole new genre or technical approach ... That's something I did with the whole chicken picking thing, I've never really had any intention of planting myself in that genre but you can always get the interesting things out of exploring something that you never intended.
At 3:05 - Screamin’ Jay Hawkins (I Put A Spell On You) complete with mischievous grin!-)) Don’t you just love this girl! I couldn’t take eyes off this sound bite. It’s like ice-cream for the mind.
@17:52 "n yeah that's a good place to start" ....but wait wait Tory that's already where most of people have been struggling half of their life to get to 🤔 BTW that Squier Tele is really appealing ⚡
Lack of view because it flies over everyone’s head except players like Pat Matheny, Stanley Jordan, Matteo, Mancuso, Allan Holdsworth, Lenny Breau….🤷♂️
Wonderful playing. Why do ALL the vids I've seen have 1.1k views? And, those #s don't move. Am I suspicious of something untoward afoot? Yes. Will I get to the bottom of it? Time, diligence and my shoveling brain will tell. Keep fighting the good fight.
If you had a big cleavage and played crappy acoustic cover versions of Nirvana or whatever you would have millions of subscribers/views but sadly a talent of this level and sophisticated harmony and concepts like this go way over most peoples heads, but you never know, hopefully it will catch on and you'll get the recognition you deserve. The algorithm put you in my recommend videos recently but I seek out guitar stuff. Thanks for posting all this great stuff Tory, crazy good!
Amazing phrasing and playing!! I was wondering if you could tell me your action height, pickup height, treble/bass/mid/presence amp settings please! Thank you for your time!
It's low action but not really low, the pickup is closer to the trouble side further away from the base and the amp settings are basically two different amp channels which are kind of polar opposites
Thank you, Tory. You are incredibly inspiring. I am completely new to this. I've only ever owned piano midi controllers. Which type of guitar would you (or anyone in the comment section) suggest to start learning guitar? I'd like to learn all of this and tabbing and such.
The Squier Telecaster Tory plays in this video is a great instrument. Or a Squier Stratocaster. Both are well built and should be fun to play to get started. Good luck!
Did you go to school for music or are you mostly self taught? See I never went to school for music & I’m a rock n roller who wants to get into jazz, & I’m wondering how much effort goes into this if you’re not trained.
Both, I did go to school but a lot of what I do is stuff that I've either found or invented myself. I guess School kind of gives you the tools to do your own inventing and researching... I think the effort side of things is really in stepping back and thinking about music or the guitar and a more intellectual capacity, which takes a different type of effort.

The porpoise of this Marine Mamel is to encouraging us by quitting?
F’in virtuoso. Why doesn’t she have more views? Quite possibly the most underrated guitarist on the planet.
Correct!
Goddess of the Guitar and a Whimsical Soul...you are a RARE one Tory! Never stop being you! ✌️🙂🎸
*note: once this gets over a certain number of views / likes I'll do the next instructional (which will cover "chord soloing").
Over 100 likes
You deserve way more views/likes/subscribers
This is great. I love the term 'Real book crowd" I agree you need more people to see your playing. I am going to share with my guitar friends

I tried to design things so that it has a certain type of engaging quality, rather than being a series of epic attempts

Philosophically, I enjoy the creating a positive feedback loop idea for yourself.

this intro is hilarious 😂
found your channel yesterday, its amazing and next level
Excelente bravo
I simply do not understand the lack of views on this video
Thanks. Algorithm, maybe?
@@TorySlushergonna punch that algorithm in the face!
I understand why, but the guitar playing is great.

That was my assumption for a very long time as well.

Thanks for these (it’s more than mildly…) hope life is good. A fellow noisemaker.
Great stuff!
Sadly, this did not make me a better player... But it was fun to watch!

Love ur approach of explaining what u r doing. Thanks! How long did u work on ur technical side to where u felt comfortable?
Thanks, many years ago....but, the journey never ends...you always come up with New things which increases the chop maintenance pool...

Oh geez, I don't really know, it just comes down to research, trial and error and personal preference

@@appetiteforguitar I will look into it. Thank you so much. 🙏🏻

I think they're cool

IMO, BHC is just one of thousand tools for soloing but imply the most traditional sound of bebop like bird or 1940 to 50
@@critical9999 of course it's just one of the tools. But it's definitely not just for tradition
