    From my understanding some of these companies can be extremely successful, in fact I think one of the biggest scam companies was recently sold to Apple for like $4 billion or something, think it was called Beats or something.

      You have to break a few property and trespassing laws and jump fences for the good stuff; if you're sticking to easily accessible dumpsters that any hobo can get into, then you're just going to get the literal trash that other divers left behind.
      My brother in law used to work for city sanitation years ago and he was able to run a modest computer and electronics repair shop out of his home from the locked up dumpsters behind rent to own and electronic appliance stores - he was able to salvage plenty of useable parts and components from devices that often only had cosmetic damage or minor mechanical issues - disc drawers not working and bad power cables being the two most common culprits.
      Point is, if you want the good stuff, you have to be willing to risk going where most others aren't willing to go.

      And batteries. Names like Duracell, RayVac contract with manufacturers of cheap generic batteries who simply put the "expensive" label on their everyday, cheap batteries. Clothing lines are another product where high-end sounding labels are sewn on cheap garments. And its all completely legal. It's called Capitalism.

      @Eric Vincent So what you are saying is that the Scandanavian, Canadian, English socialist systems have failed. In the US we constantly hear about the failure of the Canadian socialized medicine system. Of course the Canadians I have talked to don't see it that way but hey it's on Fox News so it must be the truth eh?
      The real fact is that any system requires morality. You got that part of it correct but didn't go far enough. The difference is who holds the power and thus can screw the system when they are morally bankrupt. With capitalism the power is major corporations and lawyers primarily.

      @Eric Vincent Socialism gave the people of USSR the best education and upbringing system (for free), one of the best health care systems (for free), strong scientific and engineering school, art and culture of high moral values, and one of the fastest industrializations ever made. It made possible for the most people to move to the cities into a new apartments (for free). It gave people low-cost high quality natural food. It gave the workers institutions to protect their rights like 8-hour working day, 28 days vacation and guaranteed pension. It made travels across all the country affordable for everyone. With socialism USSR won the Great Patriotic War against united capitalistic Europe. What capitalism in Russia did? It destroyed most of those achievements and achieved nothing by itself. Because it can't. Capitalism is dictatorship of capitalists, while socialism is dictatorship of workers.

    • @Dargonhuman

      @@okaravan What alternate universe are you from, comrade? Socialist Russia was a shithole country that people died trying to flee. That "free" healthcare system came with "free" medical experiments done on an unwilling and unwitting populace, art and culture were highly censored by the state to ensure maximum "patriotism", workers were effectively slaves to the state...
      Socialist Russia was a far cry from the utopia you're painting it as.

    That's pretty typical of the cheap 'n' chunky ebay projectors. Their main redeeming feature is that they use a fairly common metal halide lamp that lasts thousands of hours and is very cheap to replace.

    • @redtails
      @redtails 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      bigclivedotcom the MH lamp is a pretty nice selling point, albeit giving pretty bad colour reproduction. Projector lamps are stupidly expensive the amount of time they can be turned on. It's really about time that projectors started using something decent that doesn't shit itself within a month of use.

    • @redtails
      @redtails 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** it's not that no one think about using leds in projectors, it's that the color rendering index of leds is pretty bad at the moment, even in the high-end.
      You should take a look at the Reef Central forum. A lot of people wnt to switch their MH lamps over to led, and nearly everyone has issues with the color of their tank afterwards; this is not unique to aquaria. The visual spectrum of leds is weird due to the fluorescent phosphor.

    • @kyoudaiken

      But that's what a CRI >95 is saying... And there are enough LEDs out there with this performance. Especialy those from OSRAM.

    • @redtails
      @redtails 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** All right, now take a look at what >95 CRI leds will cost you. They have been making their intro into the filming industry, and a simple film panel, used to bring light into a studio, currently costs around 1000-2000$ depending on light output. Although I do think you're right that LEDs will make their entrance into projectors at some point, due to their superior lifespan and light output, I also believe that current leds have pretty bad CRI. Leds with high-CRI that are currently on the market cost an absolute fortune. If you can find cheap, high-power, high-lumen, long-lifespan, CRI 95% leds, please let us know!! Because I've honestly been looking for some nice film lamps since forever.

      @@Dargonhuman Funny enough, the Marc vincent, zm, "product designer" was not as apt in the English language. Not only is "vincent" spelled with a capital "V" at the bttom and a lower case "v" on top. It also produly declares itself as an "AMPLFIER". Now that's some serious shit...I mean, it probably ranks #1 in the "AMPLFIER" tests of any serious high end audio magazine. Because stuff like Krell sits in the amplifier section. well, because, you know, the guys at Krell can not only build amplifiers, they can also spell...and they don't need to put the word amplifier (or AMPLFIER) on the front.
      I chose Krell just as an prominent example, there are other great amplifiers out there.
      Oh, yes, and you'll probably never find a Krell amplifier in a White Van Sale; it'll likely cost more than the van.

    I had a few guys try this on my twice about 10 years ago. First time was at a Home Depot store in the US, the brand they were hocking was Olin Ross. I hadn't heard of the scam before and almost fell for it, even offered them $100 before a friend alerted me to what was going on. They surprisingly wouldn't accept my "low" offer anyway, despite it being a heck of a lot more than the $20 they sell for on eBay.
    Second time was Paramax brand, and I wasn't so nice to the douchebag when he approached me a few months after the first attempt in the Burger King parking lot across the street from the Home Depot. I chased him off, but it almost came to blows when I called him out for his shittiness. The BK manager saw the whole thing unfold, and actually comped my meal for chasing the guy away, so it actually worked out in my favor.

Back then I drove a flashy sports car so it looked like I had a lot of money, I didn't really though since it all was invested in that damn car lol. Anyway it went down pretty much as you describe in this video. "Hey we have a bunch of left over high end gear from this installation job we did and the boss accidentally ordered to much stuff and now we have to get rid of it." The first time it happened I was pretty shocked as I was at a gas station fueling up said sports car. After I turned the guy down he got rather agitated and started to insult me calling me a "flea" for not wanting his obviously shit product. I saw him look over my shoulder at a police car pulling into the station and he promptly ended the conversation and jumped in his van and took off.
    The second time it happened a guy approached me in a parking lot offering pretty much the same deal except he mentioned where they did the install and was at a place where I used to work and I still knew the boss. I told him I was going to call my old boss to verify if his claims were true or not and he jumped in his vehicle and sped off without saying a word.

    The "Marc vincent" [sic] home theater system was sold here in the USA under the "Vanderbach" name, in the same cabinet but without the fake tubes/valves. Printed on the box is a fake MSRP of "$2699", and on one I've seen a hand-written price tag of $219.99. People are trying to sell them for over $1000 on eBay, probably thinking that "even that price is a great deal compared to the $2699 it's worth!". The box claims "Designed in USA", "No.1 in Germany", and "No.2 in Sweden".

    White van pulls up. "Want to buy speakers".
    "Yea sure".

      There is a difference between the components not being able to even possibly match up to what they claimed and having an individual, hand assembled, product not look exactly like the picture. Especially when, every now and then, somebody cares enough to actually produce and hand you the good looking sandwich.
      If it makes these claims on the box, or at an official website that is still in use, it seems like it would be easy to make the case that they are committing fraud.

    I'll 'defend' the projector: "HDTV Ready" was plastered all over consumer devices that were capable of accepting 1080p signal, even if incapable of properly displaying it. That's why I flatly refused to buy any digital TV until I established the true resolution of the display panel.

    • @BloodSprite-tan
      @BloodSprite-tan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Treknology im totally with you on that, i was looking at 4k 60hz tv, and a lot of them aren't actually 4k or 60hz
      because you to look at the spec sheet to tell. cheap tv's have no hdmi 2.0 which can handle 4k at 60hz

    • @rogerwilco2
      @rogerwilco2 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Treknology I think HDTV ready means that they can display 720p. It was very common in the early 2000's. A lot of the early HD TV's were made with 1366×768 LCDs.
      Before BluRay and such, when DVD was the best most people had, it was plenty.

    • @treknology1068
      @treknology1068 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aℓαηтιc ƒℓαмє Same here. 3840 is NOT 4k and never will be. Within the Video industry, I pedantically separate "UHD" and "True-4k" as different products and yes, in high-end video production gear this IS a significant difference. The display I'm using right now is "True-2k" (2048) rather than the ordinary "full" HD (1920). On one of the cameras I'm currently considering, even the "eyepiece" is genuinely 1920*1080...
      I should also point out that no video material is going to be 60Hz. At best it will be 30fps, and will only be displayed by a PC at a higher refresh rate. A properly mastered Blu-ray should be 24Hz (24 fps) equal to cinema and the TV will "refresh" this image by displaying it twice, to reduce flicker. In a standard cinema, each of the 24 frames per second is shown twice to reduce flicker (48Hz). The idea of 50 & 60Hz is, I think, a hang-over from the analog interlace days. If HD were being properly broadcast and displayed, then all TVs should be capable of displaying 96Hz (each frame shown four times). We need varying frequencies to remain backward compatible with PAL (25/50) and NTSC (30/60).

    • @BloodSprite-tan
      @BloodSprite-tan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah 4k = 4096 x 2160
      Treknology i'm not sure. that there aren't
      yeah that 24fps refreshing twice is called 1080i
      in all honesty tv's just need higher refresh rates in general. 144hz monitors do exist
      and there is a noticeable difference between 30 hz and 144hz

    • @brentfisher902
      @brentfisher902 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Treknology The only way to tell ofa camera's resolution for sure is to shoot a scene with a lot of high frequency content then take a frame and do a 2D Discrete Fourier Transform on the picture. If it's full resolution the center blob will extend fully to the frame edges including overscan.

    The caps on the Marc Vincent, could be genuine. A lot of old electronics goes to China for recycling, and I wouldn't be surprised to see decent pieces like capacitors, resistors and the such being reused, in cheap gear.

Did some google research and learned that die higher Pioneer component of that era had embossed logo's the cheaper units printed logo's. Scams like that are very common here in the Philippines but they are not inside a white van. They're inside shopping malls and the sales men tells you to scratch a coupon and if you win (all coupons are winner) they will give you a price. But there is a catch. They will only give you the price if you buy their product worth this amount. But they cost around ten times as much compared to other well known brands. The most common is the induction cooker which they amazes consumers about its property by boiling water while there are papers between the metal pot and the stove and the water boils without burning the paper. I think it's legal here because they thrive in shopping malls. What you said at 5:08 also applies here.

    You know, I have actually found two of these systems. PLEASE NOTE: I did not pay a single cent for them. I got them from the dump! One was a Harmann by Volk Technology Labs. The other one was made by Genesis Media Labs. Both were crap. The Genesis one actually, unbelievably had a nice woofer. It was a 100Watts 8 Ohms not close to the 800Watts 4 Ohms claimed by the website. Also it claimed 350Watt into all surround channels, Nope I had it connected to Panasonic 60Watts MAX 30Watts RMS speakers and never even got them to RMS!! The Harmann never worked!! I plugged it in and all I got was a light flashing "BT Working" also it had NO buttons on the front!
    Also what did you do with that projector? Just wondering.

    • @redtails
      @redtails 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Joshua's Recordings Even a lot of big-name brands will up the wattage on their speakers, though. It's a really bad part of audio industry, inflation of wattages. After all, no one believes you when you tell them 10W is a sufficient amount to penetrate the entire street, and that most of the time your speakers are running at 1W or below lol

    • @JoshuasRecordings
      @JoshuasRecordings 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Yea, I know about the PMPO output. Samsung uses it all the time! Though I don't believe about like say MTX saying they have a 500Watt woofer that can only handle 10W. I have done calculation with my true RMS multimeter and found that the amps but out close to what are rated. Like my FISHER from the 80's put out 30Volts into 8 Ohms that is 112.5Watts, the amp is rated at 120Watts per channel. Also my Sony subwoofer amp put out 306.25Watts or 35Volts into 4 Ohms. It is rated at 320Watts per channel into 4 ohms or 500Watts per channel into 2 Ohms. So I am pretty sure something is wrong with your assumption that all brands overrate their amps!

    • @redtails
      @redtails 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joshua's Recordings Although you're not giving that much info on your readings, I will assume that when a power-amplifier is outputting its absolute maximum voltage, it will not be able to produce a sine wave. Distortion becomes a really big issue. You can open up your amplifiers, there'll be TDA chips and STK chips in them, those manufacturers rate their outputs at 10% distortion, which (subjectively) is bullshit for listening to music.
      I will admit I'm being bold when stating that all manufacturers overrate their wattages, I will hold firm that these ratings can either not be maintained for extended periods of times due to thermal design issues, or they will have so much distortion that it becomes unusable as a musical amplifier.
      pretty sweet amps you have, though

    • @JoshuasRecordings
      @JoshuasRecordings 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ***** Thanks. Though actually I use these amps like all the way up, I use the FISHER to play music outside, it also has a wattage meter that I found pretty accurate. Also I have it driving a modified KOSS speaker with a PUNCH 200Watt subwoofer, and it will drive that speaker pretty hard without audible distortion. Trust me, I can here distortion and it drives me crazy. Also I could get more out of the Sony but I only have a 32Amp power supply driving it, (it is a car amp) so I do get some distortion out of it. Also I do open up amplifiers, I constantly open up almost everything, just look at my channel. Also most of my amps are direct transistor output and are rated at .05% total THD to rated output. Except the one in my bedroom with is a class D, I think TDA.
      So yea, I like direct transistor amps much more that TDA or STK (digital amplifiers (Class D or E)).
