    1. Wayne has had bad contracts and business dealings with parties that executives probably wouldn’t want to get involved with.

He had more leverage and had insane offers from every label before he signed with young money. He was also an actor and older so he didn't just sign blindly. The problem with drake's contract is multiple people having a cut ie wayne, baby, universal, and j prince but it wasn't a typical slave deal or 360. Times have changed with social media and streaming. Way more bigger artists are able to renegotiate their deals then in the past but joe is still right to some degree about the race and skin tone thing he is implying.

    Rory definitely has a point. It's likely Drake learned how *not* to navigate through Wayne's situation. The former isn't linked to Birdman like the latter, so that could explain the differences in trajectory.
    I *can* see where Joe was heading, though. There are plenty of factors to consider before jumping straight to colorism (Drake being Jewish probably helped him though, as sterotypical as it sounds) imo. Drake and Wayne came up under different circumstances and maintained different brands- and marketability, by extension.

    • @lionel8554
      @lionel8554 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Insightful thought bro. I feel where you’re coming from. So you think Drake being part Jewish gives him doors and opportunities Wayne didn’t have? The epitome of Hip Hop is to be from the hood and talk about that life and be about that life. Think of 50 cent for example he became fifty because of his lack of privilege. Why is it that Drake somehow got passes in the industry that Wayne wouldn’t or couldn’t if Nothing else but the fact that Drake avoided certain pitfalls that Wayne had to suffer?

    • @ctredez2047
      @ctredez2047 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lionel8554 It's hard for me to confidently say his opportunities are *solely* because of his Jewish background, because a factor that's just as significant is the fact that Drake came up in the acting industry. He probably had some foundation of management and industry experience before he was seriously invested in the game. Whereas Lil Wayne, while he came up under an iconic label, may not have had that same type of network; at least not at a similar stage in his career compared to Drake, you know what I mean?

      Minimal Interest if 5 had 10-12 songs it could have been a classic. Mona Lisa is a top ten Wayne song

      His album definitely brings in the money but the mixtapes is what got people to buy in to what Wayne was producing. He used the method of “free now pay later” it grew his Dan base in which people started buying his albums

    Appreciate the topic Joe. It’s pretty much the same reason Macklemore won a Grammy over Kendrick Lamar.

    But Wayne was legally Baby’s adopted son. So of course he trusted him. Drake’s whole situation was different

    Maybe the bigger picture here is that Universal gave Baby and Slim a shitty deal and in turn they did the same to their artist to profit.

    Drake has surpassed his master but Wayne remains the undefeated 🐐 when it comes to comparing them. And at the end of the day Young Angel & Young Lion Are Both 🐐🐐

      @assahwayo1790 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can say that for now but Drake's music ages well too. In hindsight Drake got like over 5 classics (SFG, TC, NWTS, VIEWS, IYRRTITL) including whatever critical acclaimed album he releases. He's already got classic singles tho

    • @assahwayo1790
      @assahwayo1790 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Matthew Views ages well every year and in 10 years time he will be known as a classic.
      What about IYRRTITL?

      It's almost like everyone will disagree because albums being called classics are subjective 🤔

    Mal doesn’t know what he’s talking about lil Wayne was still releasing music he actually put out 3 projects in one year 2015 sorry for the wait 2, fwa, no ceilings 2

    • @Mobcityrecords100
      @Mobcityrecords100 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The GOAT Is KOMING he wasn’t being specific and if that’s the case Fwa was an official project that came out commercially also collygrove and the t-Wayne project, his statement was not true I could see how he would say it because he didn’t pay enough attention to how the music was released

    • @Mobcityrecords100
      @Mobcityrecords100 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The GOAT Is KOMING false fwa was released on tidal as a tidal exclusive it was not a mixtape it’s an actual lil Wayne album look it up also collegrove came out under two chainz name lil Wayne had majority of features he put the projects out differently that’s all look this stuff up those projects aren’t mixtapes

      Naw wayne did fall back purposely so cashmoney wouldnt make no more new money from him. He sacrificed 4 or 5 years of him career so he could get off of cashmoney. Thats why in chance the rapper NO PROBLEM song he saus i feel like i sacrificed so much i feel like JESUS CARTER

    • @pharoah7500
      @pharoah7500 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mobcity Records fwa got taken down by every streaming service except tidal even the single glory so it possibly could t be released commercially as Tidal was still a very new app with less than a million subscribers. Collegrove and T Wayne album were t an official release for Wayne and not even a collab tape because his label wasn’t on it and he was featured on every track but 1 or 2 to ensure that it was still a 2 Chainz project and hence why it was released by def Jam . The joint with t pain was also put out for free . Wayne’s last album put out commercially was 2013 ianahb 2 last big singles were love me, no worries and rich as fuck . That was the last time Wayne did anything commercial for him self till Carter 5 . So yea joe is absolutely right
